why would the bill of the diver ever touch the leader? the way i see it , the leader is always behind the diver. But as always , great video!!
@FishHuntNorthwest
@FishHuntNorthwest Ай бұрын
It is behind the diver. Sometimes the shrimp grabs bottom and hangs up. Before I used bead chains, I experienced losing my leader with only a few inchs left on the diver. The only thing I could assume is the diver cut my leader. I started using bead chain swivels and it's never happened since. Just my assumption...

How long do you boil the shrimp for? Thanks
@FishHuntNorthwest
@FishHuntNorthwest 2 ай бұрын
If you get fresh shrimp that has not been blanched/boiled, it's pretty quick and easy. Bring water in a pot to a boil put the shrimp in some type of strainer or colander you can dunk into the boiling water. They only need to be in there for a minute or so or until they turn color much like cooking crab. Pull them out dump them into cold water in the sink or a container with water and ice in it you want to cool them down right away.

Always love hearing what The General has to say. My only advice for anyone wanting to learn how to swing metal for fish is to pick a place where you'll be rewarded for your actions. I learned more in a week swinging metal for aggressive summer runs up in BC than anything else. Getting rewarded with a many fish per day while only swinging metal quickly helps one learn what to do and more importantly NOT to do. A NW angler would be lucky to get a single winter run fish per float on most of our rivers.

What is a good rod for trolling salmon in the puget sound? What is a good length as well? Thanks
@FishHuntNorthwest
@FishHuntNorthwest 2 ай бұрын
We are with Edge Rods. The Edge 360 Pro is Designed to be fished with lead, like in the Columbia River or even when using just lead for trolling in Puget Sound fishing shallow for Coho. It also performs extremely well in a downrigger for Salmon troll fisheries. You can get them in a 10' 6" or 9'4" it just depends what works well for the size of your boat. They also come in a 4, 5 or 6 power. So a 10' 6" 5 power, would be a 1065. It is a 12-30 lb. rated rod 😉

@FishHuntNorthwest
@FishHuntNorthwest 2 ай бұрын
@@NghiaPham-xi5so When the flasher breaks-away, it releases the drag on the flasher, so you are fighting just the fish, not the drag of the flasher. The flasher is still there, but hanging by one end so it no longer digs or pulls resistance. It's helpful, it keeps your line tight to the fish resulting in great hook-up to land ratio

Hey Duane, thanks again for sharing your coon shrimp cure! I filled two quart jars with my 2lb box of shrimp from Ray’s Baits, the same as you use, however, I still have a little leftover frozen shrimp. How much cured shrimp do you normally get out of a 2lb box? I don’t want to overfill my quart jars. I feel like they are very full.

@FishHuntNorthwest
@FishHuntNorthwest 2 ай бұрын
@@fishingwithfoxxxy1371 Wiggle Wart or Mag Wart with hooks removed, will work, although can flip over sometimes depending on the current, due to the extra drag on the plug with the leader and bait. The bait divers have a longer, wider and thinner diving bill and are designed to keep your bait down. That being said, you can use plugs vs divers and probably find success.
