Bobbers have their place in fishing for steelhead and salmon. Typically I use a bobber when using beeds only, with no bait; or, when the water is deep and too slow to allow a proper drift while using bait. That piece of water this guy is fishing is perfect for drift fishing without the need of a bobber, while using only just enough led to touch bottom every so often while drifting. “Bobber Dogging” only invites hangups on the bottom. Learn how to drift with a levelwind reel and feather out line with your thumb to extend the drift.
@FishHuntNorthwest12 күн бұрын
Agreed, bobbers do have a place. Also agree with drift fishing and levelwind's and the ability to extend the drift. I have been drift fishing my entire life, that is how I learned to fish. This piece of water is very conducive for either or. Bobber-Doggin' or Float Drifting when standing at a spot, is very effective. I do disagree with the comment that Bobber Doggin' invites hang ups. Rigged properly with the stick leads we use, much like drift fishing it can be a very natural presentation that moves along without hang-ups. Bobber Doggin' is also a great way for beginners to learn to fish and cover a piece if water. I actually caught more Steelhead last season Drift Fishing over any other method. As you said, bobbers have there place, it's good to have a rod rigged for Bobber Doggin' in your arsenal when you are covering a lot of water over the day, much like vertical jigs, drift fishing, bobber & beads etc.. Always appreciate the comments..

So WDFW doesn't acknowledge that early returning count towards escapment, yet they are trying to protect those fish? This is unacceptable the number of wild fish encounters in December it's likely below 5% of the entire run.

Can I re-use the liquid ?
@FishHuntNorthwest20 күн бұрын
Once the shrimp have absorbed the contents in the cure, the liquid is not as strong with ingredients. The shrimp absorb the salts and sugars and then when you remove the shrimp, you also remove the original amount of contents. Adding more shrimp to the jar into the liquid will result in cured shrimp, although they may not be as tough as the originals. I have used the liquid to cure eggs (roe) for fishing and that works really well. Gives the eggs a completely different scent.

will pro cures sodium sulfite work instead of the salt you are using?
@FishHuntNorthwest2 ай бұрын
@muckleshoot1 I've not tried it as I usually will use the Pautzke BorX O Fire (pink) which cures, toughens and adds color. Or, salt.. Sodium Sulfite will more than likely work and should toughen the bait some. Careful not to use too much, as it might turn them brittle vs tough...

The Brannon hatchery study pretty much destroys the myth that hatchery fish must be kept separate from Native fish but if we had significant increases in naturally spawning salmon and steelhead it would kill alot of federal dollars from special interest groups aligned with politicians who are impeding repopulating extinct streams and increasing abundance elsewhere.
