Always appreciated the fact that you go after the facts & try to help affect change. Other groups may be popular, but they miss the actual point… you won’t have content to create or gear to sell if we don’t have FISH. Those guys would be smart to get behind using their platform to actually help the situation instead of JUST profit.

I miss everything that once was Winter Steelhead, D. I miss walking in to sportco and seeing Bill tying jigs and giving info to people who had no idea who he actually was 🤣. They were getting insight from of one if not THE fishiest Steelhead & Kokanee anglers to ever do it. I miss our rivers. I miss all of YOU! Counts show it’s going to be a strong year on the coast and we are side lined. Steelhead shouldn’t be a “commercial fish”. Reclassify them as SPORT CATCH only & help the tribes see the light of outfitting vs killing. Things could actually change when we sit at the table. If there isn’t a shift made on the TRIBES side, we will never get them back. Ever. It’s a lose/lose for both sides unless they make a shift.

Reality: Given the economic drivers at work (first and foremost conceptualizing salmon and steelhead as a "resource" to be exploited, but also over fishing, industrialization, dams, pollution, habitat destruction, collapse of prey in the oceans, warming oceans, the hubris of thinking we can "manage" a wild creature, etc. etc. ) that are causing the disappearance of our Steelhead (and Salmon), it's not feasible to think that by just carrying on as usual "wild" fish will simply rebound by themselves. This is clearly a pipe dream. If we are honest, we will acknowledge that our collective push toward the precipice is inevitable and irreversible and, given that fact, we must supplement our "natural" fisheries with propagated fish, whatever that looks like, in order to sustain the life cycle of these amazing salmonids. We're already too far down that road to change course now. Any other perspective is totally delusory.

That is why we strongly support Hatchery Production... To do away with hatcheries, will be the complete demise of our fisheries. They actually need to ramp up hatchery production back to a level that we were previously accustom to.

100% agree. Engage in hatchery production as wisely as we possibly can, invest in the science around the practices. Otherwise, we will witness the extinction of Salmon and Steel in the PNW. It's happening now. It's not like we're going to stop commercial exploitation of the fish, although I wish we would. I'm honestly all for stopping all commercial exploitation, but given how our economy functions, this won't happen. So, we have to collectively acknowledge reality and move forward accordingly. @@FishHuntNorthwest
