can you do an in-depth video on how to defend the darce from guys like khamzat and islam, ?? it seems the darce is getting very popular and is the number 1 chooke for wrestlers
@DavidAvellanКүн бұрын
The best answer is prevention. If you watch the stand ups and reversals for MMA course (available on my website DavidMMA.com), I make a point to avoid getting into front headlocks. It's very common for people while standing up to let their head go underneath their opponent's chest. This gives your opponent an easy headlock, which he can turn into all sorts of submissions, including a Darce choke. If you learn how to stand up properly, you minimize your risk of getting stuck in a front headlock. Likewise, taking bad shots will also get you stuck in a sprawl that can also be turned into a front headlock. I can do a video on what to once you get caught in a Darce, but it's more important to understand how you got there in the first place and how to avoid it.

@DavidAvellan5 күн бұрын
Pretty much 🤣. But the trick is being consistent, being patient with your lifting program, and allowing your body to recover and build strength over time. It's not a race, so I don't have to force myself to lift too heavy. Using good technique and not forcing it also makes you more efficient and prevents injury, which is why I film, so I can study myself and make sure the bath path is optimal.

How do you like the bar speed gadget?
@DavidAvellan6 күн бұрын
I like it. This is from RepOne. It can measure velocity, acceleration, length of pull, and duration. The most useful is velocity. When you know your velocities with each exercise, you can understand how it is going to go and be better prepared. For example, on a squat, I know that once it gets around .24 m/s, I'm close to failure. I also know that if I am moving a certain weight at a velocity, if I increase the weight by X%, my velocity decreases by a similar amount. This allows me to lift smarter and avoid injury. It also lets me know objectively that I'm getting more powerful instead of relying on "feel". I have had days where I feel beat up but when I lift I do amazing. As they say, what is measured is improved, so I like measuring everything 🤣

They mean the same thing
@DavidAvellan15 күн бұрын
They don't. If you listen to the whole video (available on my KZbin as well), I make the distinction clear. Being willing to die means you're ready to sacrifice everything, even your life, to achieve your goal. Being willing to kill means you're willing to destroy anything in your path. Dying is not implied for you. Now you may have both, being willing to kill and willing to die, but I find that many people when they say they're willing to die, they have the image of a hero's death, like a martyr, and they're willing to make a big sacrifice. Whereas somebody who's willing to kill sees the objective with them coming out on top alive and well.

Hi, How's tour training structured?
@DavidAvellan24 күн бұрын
I have been following the Madcow 5x5 with some modifications (stronglifts.com). I give myself either 2 or 3 days of rest (3 is once a month if I'm very beat up) between lifts, so my schedule is not clean in fitting within a week. It's three lifting days, so the (A) day consists of a back squat, a bench press, and bent over row. I add a lat pull down and dumbbell curls for accessory lifts for hypertrophy. 5 sets for the big 3 lifts that are in 5 rep sets with a strength focus, so plenty of rest, ascending to a top set (12.5% increase between each set). The accessory lifts are sets of 10 for 3 sets with short rest (1 minute). The (B) day is back squats, overhead press, and deadlifts. This day is 4 sets of 5 reps, with the back squats more for volume and not going into a top set (stopping at around 60% 1RM). The (C) day is back squats, overhead press, and deadlifts, with accessory of cable rows and behind the back single arm cable curls. For the big 3, it's the same type of progression, but the top set weight is increased by a small amount (2.5lbs for chest and shoulders, 5lbs for legs and back) for a shorter set of 3. Followed by a backoff set of 8 at 60% 1RM. If you succeed in your top set, when you restart the next cycle, you bump all the weights up to fit the new top set for 5 reps. This is all better explain on the site, but I laid out it here just in case: davidmma.com/post/madcow-5x5
@stefamonta392424 күн бұрын
@DavidAvellan very nice detailed program, thank you, I used to follow a very similar schedule few months ago, gaining size and strenght, but after a month or so, I started felt very beat up for Jiu jistu. Probably cause I tried to fit It in a week always. Lately I've been following more a Strenght and conditioning approach..feels better but the 5*5 still amaze me...gonna take a look at your link and see if I can give It a try!
@DavidAvellan24 күн бұрын
@@stefamonta3924 At 43, managing recovery is the main challenge. That is why I give myself more rest between lifts. Usually 2 is enough, and I'll lift and train martial arts on the same day. Just make sure to schedule enough recovery. :)

Cool use of the half split, David. Could you deal with the frame by locking a Kimura on the upper arm?
@DavidAvellan29 күн бұрын
It's possible you could find a Kimura on that arm, but normally if they are framing well their upper arm (wrist to elbow) is going to be connected to your upper body, so it's going to be a challenge to create space so you can secure a classic Kimura grip. Reverse Kimuras are doable here and I show that quite a bit on my site

I have spotter bars, so I'm not worried about getting stuck under the bar, as I can just relax my back and the bar would rest on them, which is something I have tested and have done several times already 😂. Otherwise, I wouldn't clip so I could tilt them off in a worst case scenario.

Nice, I like this one. Do you regularly figure four? I’ve experimented with both over the years, sometimes I just try to ‘uppercut’ the reinforcing hand to raise the fulcrum as much as possible but still not sure which works best to be honest. I have varying success with each on different people!
@DavidAvellanАй бұрын
It's funny you mention that. I agree with you that the uppercut or open grip (not grabbing their shin) reverse Figure Four can feel stronger and as you mentioned, you can argue you can raise the fulcrum more. However, like you I don't have a conclusive answer as to which is better as they both work 😜

But I do enjoy seeing improvements in ROM, speed, and technique 💪

well keep it up I’m 54 years old and I worked out like a religion all through high school and in through the Marine Corps. I worked out and felt like I never had any gains. But then I started working out again like I did when I was in my 20s. The muscle remembered and shot back like it was on steroids. I was pushing 405, 315 10 times. I always tell my daughter the two most important things you can do for yourself is study and never stop studying. Work Out like your life depends on it, and your body and your mind will be in sync. The physical routine is so important so stick with it don’t give up.

@PlayCraftStore wow! That's some monster weight and a great message. I love hearing about the veterans (both literal and figurative for athletes) keeping the lifestyle beyond the career. I say the difference between a fighter and a martial artist is that martial artist embodies the lifestyle, whereas the athlete is only in it for the short-term. I want more martial artists and healthy people 💪💪💪

@DavidAvellanАй бұрын
I do pauses on my warm up weights occasionally. But this was my top set, and I am doing my best to get a bounce off the bottom (which I don't believe I do well yet). I don't think if I paused at this weight I would get up, or if I did it would be only 1 rep. I'm doing strong lifts Madcow5x5, so slowly incrementing weight by each cycle, which has worked out well. 💪

I tried both low bar and high bar squats, and found low bar to be more stressful on my lower back. I find the high bar squats allowed me more range of motion, and don't bother my back. I am also a short femur, long torso person, so perhaps the leverages work against me for low bar? I am not sure, but since I switched the high bar, I feel much better.

Bro, everybody who is into boxing, even slightly, saw that Mike didn’t even hit Paul in fear of knocking him out. It’s too obvious. Mike’s got a big family, he needs the dough. Fans understand and respect that the champ’s had to do what he had to do
@DavidAvellan2 ай бұрын
I have been in the martial arts for over 27 years, and fought professionally, cornered boxers, and MMA fighters throughout my career. Is it possible that Mike was holding back and this fight was rigged? Sure. But I didn't see that. I saw Jake holding back, particularly after the round 3 I believe were Mike seemed to have problems moving around (probably on account of the bad knee he entered the fight with and age). The fighters I know saw it the same way as I did. Age can make you look slow, hesitant, as your speed, reaction time and timing are off. In the end, I stand by my statement here, which is this was about a payday. I don't fault Mike for taking it to score 8 figures, especially if it was rigged. Plus, he got to be the main event of one of the biggest combat sports events in history, and move around in the ring. That's a thrill he got to experience that most fighters never get to experience, let alone a 59 year old fighter. So whether it was rigged or not, doesn't make a difference to me. If Mike is happy, good for him. :)
@luigimathews10072 ай бұрын
@ Dude, have you seen the contract? If Mike knocks out, he virtually gets no dough. If he stands around and does nothing for eight rounds, he gets maximum pay. What does that tell you? I know it tells me enough.

I'm not saying it isn't possible, but to say that as if it's a fact is misleading. If you have a link to said contract, I would be happy to see it and change my view.

@DavidAvellan2 ай бұрын

@MFvonDOOM2 ай бұрын
@@DavidAvellan Gotcha! I have short legs too by the way lol
@DavidAvellan2 ай бұрын
Gotcha, when you can't get the body triangle and just the regular hooks don't have enough retention, you can try for a truck ride, triangling only the bottom leg instead of the whole body. If you're good at this control, in some ways it's worse to be in than a body triangle, as it really creates a lot of hip extension which makes it harder for you to shrug your shoulders to hide your neck. I will say it's trickier to control as you can only really control it from the bottom leg so the guy rolls over you have to switch.
