What a great video. Being in Bible Belt country I feel a personal coven just isn’t possible. Rural areas and cult like behavior from religious folk. I don’t see having a coven like a religion but yes it is similar as I guess one would view as church. I want community. I want to be fruitful and enjoy providing for the community in ways Christian’s do. I just wish it was doable.

Lots of cultural appropriation (name papers, the three times of writing (comminly done in hoodoo), colored candles (the votive ones with imagery on it: the ones sold at botanicas), sweetening and souring, sage burning and calling it "smudging," spiritual colognes, etc).

I see this especially with African Traditional Religions/Practices (voodoo, hoodoo, etc). They never got initiated, never got elekes, no hand, etc. You literally have to pay a year's income to even go through initiation. That's only to be accepted into a house. Not to become a solid practitioner. Even in Africa, it's closed. They still gotta go through that process. People been fooled up.

I'm mixed, so I do have mixed practices. It's a delicate balance and isn't something to take lightly, especially when some of your ancestors did unsavory stuff to your other ancestors (and yet another group of ancestors would have not had contact with the victimized ancestors). You can't just pick and choose like a buffet.

They'll connect to something. It's definitely not gonna be what they wanna connect to. Also, an altar can be simple, but it needs to be special and appropriate for the deity/ies being venerated.

Years ago, we got a Steampunk tarot at that store. Opened it up, was like "the vibes are off," closed box. It's nice art, but I can't use it. I'm thinking of starting a Coven! I became a solitary witch and I just love learning. I was homeschooled and sort of felt with all the christian organizing that happens around homeschooling, it seemed like a sort of cult anyway, but mine would be for adults around learning and debating topics on science and politics while balancing with spiritual and psychological awareness. I'm building this all on my own while I'm researching other Crafts that are out there.
