All of this can be complicated to resolve when there are actual (perceived) threats in the present environment - say, you're scared of dying from Covid or, you're not scared of Covid but you're scared of government overreach and vax mandates ... either way, you're in a state of flight-fight which links up with your pre-existing fears and intensifies your dysregulation. How does one regulate under such circumstances ... it's hard.

Great explanation - the book is fab and definitely worth reading as it explains the nervous system in a simpler way which then explains why we react to things but more importantly how we can heal. AS a mind body practitioner I will recommend this book

Hello. I wrote several months ago about my longing to participate in the Clinic. I spoke with Tracy two weeks ago; there is no way I can receive treatment there or at the Meadow. Not the correct insurance, and I'm poor. I had Lumbar Fusion Surgery a month ago: $271,000,00. for 8 inpatient days. Paid. And my heart and spirit ought to go. They hurt too much but who cares?

Hi Benjamin! I am a victim of sever trauma that includes early and continued sexual abuse, physical and psychological torture and the inherent emotional neglect that comes with it. All this happen in the settings of the cult I was born and grew up in. I was extremely fragmented and operating from constant states of flight/fight mode and PTSD symptoms. I figured out that I was able to survive all this because I coped by developing DID. I live now from a stabilized state comparing to from where I started but I would like to share my story and my journey with specialist who actually understand about trauma. I have been in a normal psychiatrist clinic and it is horrible. It actually traumatizes further people. I would like to work with someone from your clinic and I contacted the one you have in London but I don´t have the conditions to move and go there. Nonetheless and I brought myself to the point that I am ready to share what I learn about trauma, what it is called mental health disorders and contact people in the field. I know I still have ¨things¨ to integrate but I am working with my nervous system in order to attune to a different state of being, vibrationally speaking now that the states of fear, despair, loneliness, abandonment and powerless are processed and I am being intuitively guided that I need let people in to do so to get the relational aspect of trauma healed but at the same time it needs to be with people who understand the dimension and the extension of the work I did and the reality I came from. I hope to hear from you because I have searched and searched and I haven´t seen anything or anyone similar to the work that your clinic and Dr. Bessel van der Kolk are developing. If you are interesting in giving an opportunity to listen to what I have to say I would deeply appreciate it. Thank you very much! Best regards, Sara. (I left this comment in another video but I noticed it is from 4 years ago so I will copy past it in here)

Anyone who has survived "porridge" in an English boarding school would know a thing or two about constant 24/7 vigilance, being "hard-wired" for threat detection and the challenge of finding an off switch for the body's built-in threat and alarm system.

Thank you for posting this. I found it incredibly helpful. So many things resonated with me. You are extremely eloquent and courageous to talk about your story in the way that you did. Everything you said made perfect sense. I am also reading the book "How we Break by Deary which I also find helpful in understanding how we break down under stress.

thank you Benjamin. Such a great explanation. Could you maybe expand your theory on how to deal with a shame?..Is it simply view as Freeze reaction?...Isn´t exploring perhaps ones identity/role/narrative about Self formed in a childhood adapting to unhealthy environment necessary to resolved it?..thank you
@BenjaminFry11 ай бұрын
I think that complex emotions such as shame are a later evolution than, say, fear or anger. As I understand it they help keep groups in optimum conditions for survival by establishing norms and therefore shaming members who stray from them. So it is probably a bit more complicated than this explanation which helps to understand the basics of the nervous system and how that affects relationships and health.

Could I please ask, does crying help discharge trauma?
@persevere63262 жыл бұрын
Yes Tears also release toxins
@BenjaminFry9 ай бұрын
It depends on what else is going on. It is better to ask if while discharging trauma some tears might be common, to which the answer is yes. But the process starts with the body and then can move into emotions, memories, thoughts and movement.

I was looking to learn a little bit more about discharge as it pertains to less acute and more long-standing or developmental periods resulting in chronic freeze. I wonder if this is a further complication, in addition to our self-awareness, that these freeze patterns become habituated and entrenched within our personalities. Thanks!

When we can feel truly safe and contained ie someone holding us and co regulating with us, you can surrender to the immobility response and you start to let go abd it all moves through. I've experienced this, but sadly not for long enough to completion. Find co regulation and somatic safety. Irene lyons work Is most informative
