Awesome designed jig. Can you adjust the distance between kurf cuts, more narrow or wider? Do you have plans for this jig?
@MustCreateThingsАй бұрын
Hey hey mom, thanks!!! You can adjust the width of the kerf by changing the guide that the bearing rides on. I have a few printed actually. You can adjust the depth of cut as well with the threaded stop. Unfortunately I do not have plans for it. I have a very crude CAD model that got me to this stage but nothing ready to share. If you have specific questions or need photos, feel free to reach out.

I 3D printed them. The curved surfaces ride on two vertical rails on either side of the sanding belt and are offset to maintain a the correct thickness. This way I’m a make consistent curves quickly. The first hand full were done by hand and worked well. Just needed to figure out a way to pick up the pace!

You used a router, a table saw, a belt sander and an air compressor to make a simple comb? Where’s the art?
@RachelChristina528Hz5 ай бұрын
Did you know in ancient times and even up to 50+ years ago, people used wooden, shell husk and copper combs because they have higher frequency and negative ions in them versus plastic and cheap metal haircombs we gave today? People had healthier hair back in the day and less hair damage. Your hair is your antenna to the spiritual world. Him making wooden combs for the healthier hair benefits like our ancestors did...IS THE ART.

It is used as the primary penetrating finish. It keeps the wood from drying out over time. I end up waxing them before using to provide additional protection that will need to be reapplied over time.

@MustCreateThings11 ай бұрын
Thank you so much for your support and kind words! If I were to make just one from scratch it would take a few hours over the course of a couple days. I prefer making large batches the blanks that way I can carve in smaller batches (6-12) to keep stock available in the shop. Carving, sanding, and oiling take about 30-45 minutes per pin. I hope this helps. Hit me up with any other questions you have. I enjoy sharing my process.

Seems to me the shellac starts to dry on initial rubbing every coat. As if I’m removing shallac as I go. I can’t seem to lay down any layers at all. I see many on here indicate using very little shellac but that doesn’t seem to work for me at all. 4 time sanding it down.. Any advise on how much to load the rubber each coat? I feel like slopping it on to get a actual layer of shellac to work with. But I’m not giving up here just looking for the right combo to put in my rubber to replicate what your doing here
@MustCreateThings Жыл бұрын
That’s a tough one. And I hate to answer with you have to develop a feel. Less shellac is better and if you feel it sticking either reduce pressure or stop. I use a small amount of mineral oil as a lubricant when the pad gets dry and it wants to stick. Also keep an eye on the edges of your pad. If it starts to build up a shellac ring you are using too much. Also make sure you use good light. If it’s reflecting just right you should see an evaporation tail. You’ll notice it lasts longer than you would thing and you may be reloading too soon. I hope this helps. I’ve sanded back many tops when I was starting.

@MustCreateThings Жыл бұрын
That’s a tough one. I’ve used a product called Osmo on my necks in satin and love it. It is a penetrating oil and may affect the tone. If this is something you want to try, a seal coat of shellac may keep it from penetrating. Of course test on scrap to make sure you get good adhesion and the results you are looking for. I hope this helps.

@MustCreateThings2 жыл бұрын
Hello. Thank you for reaching out. I used an end mill in a milling machine. You could drill two holes and use a coping saw or one hole and cut out the fork on the band saw as well. If you use a band saw I would recommend gluing a little block of wood in at the fork end to make shaping easier until the very end. I hope this helps and good luck!

I'm refurbishing my first guitar I made in 1982. It was a styled after the Rickenbacker 320, in black, like John Lennon's guitar. I'm removing the plastic binding on the front face and installing binding to both sides and having the natural finish. I debated if I should go with white plastic but found some nice curly maple. Then, I saw rope binding and wanted to use that. I plan on cutting each piece by hand but wasn't sure which glue to use. The body is mahogany. I like Titebond but as each piece is very small, it will take a long time. If I use Ca glue won't it seep onto the surrounding wood too deep? Do I apply a coat of shellac to prevent CA glue from seeping in? How did you prevent glue from spilling over? Thank you for any help.
@MustCreateThings2 жыл бұрын
Hello @Mich050 ! Yes, I coat the channels with shellac before using CA glue. I also add a coat or two to the top and sides just in case. I haven’t had an issue yet, even with Cedar. You don’t have to use CA glue if you are worried about it. I use it because it is instant and I can push the binding were I need it to be. I’m working on moving away from CA and going back to Titebond or even Fish or Hide glue. Good luck with your project! So cool you still have your first guitar!!!

Hi, I enjoyed the video. I have a Peavey bass guitar that was made in 1991. It has a hideous 90's pink to red fade paint job which covers a maple body. I would like to sand all the paint off and stain it to it's natural appearance. Do you have any tips or specific videos to guide me? I am not much of a wood worker but I think I can sand and stain a little bit.
@MustCreateThings2 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately I’m not versed well in finishing or finishing videos. I can tell you that I would sand by hand although it will take longer and go through grits up to at least 320. Before you finish raise the grain with water by wiping water on with a damp, not soaked, cloth and letting it dry. You will notice the wood gets rough. Lightly sand this roughness off with the last grit you used. For finishes that are easy to apply I’ve really liked Osmo Polyx. I don’t know what type of stain is best under it and would recommend testing on scrap before you dig into your guitar. You can do it. And if you mess up, anything can be fixed. Good luck!!!

You can use one piece of wood. It wouldn’t be a problem. I suggest you make sure the grain is running in the direction of the teeth. Otherwise they will be weak and break. Good luck!
@royr.13982 жыл бұрын
the reason is because you can bend the wood without cracking it, 30 seconds in you can see he created an arch out of the wood. A single tick piece of wood wont bend as easy or might crack. The arch holds the hair in place better.
