Although Mr. Edwards is an excellent bit maker and his theories are sound, this history of the western bit is not his forte. He has completely missed the Spanish connection to western riding, how it came to the U.S. and its purpose (working cattle). I understand he makes a great bit and I find no fault with his explanations of how the bits function.

How do you adjust the mouthpiece?
@abbylapano3904 жыл бұрын
Hello! Just from personal experience, I am not involved in the company, but the little black button that you see just below the ring slides up and down. It take a bit of pressure to move it and it’s pretty tight, however if you really grab it with your forefinger and thumb it will move. It adjusts well and holds in place also

All bits are cruel! Why are you showing an instrument of pain and damage to the horse and his mouth, as if it’s show-and-tell? It’s tiring to see old men like you in the horse world- cruel and careless!
@ec36144 жыл бұрын
That is true and false at the same time. Yes, bits can be cruel if put in the hands of a dumbass. No, if the person knows what they are doing. The fact that you call horsemanship show and tell shows that you forgot that horses formed this country. They were the backbone of all kinds of work. Also, this old man knows a hell of a lot more than you I am sure. The only thing careless around here is you speaking BS in an area of knowledge that you seem to lack. So please realize that bits are tools now weapons. Much like a rake, you can rake the leaves or beat someone with it. It is all up to the person who uses it. So please do me a favor and learn before you speak.

A lot different than what I learned. The top part is the purchase. The bottom part is the shank. The side as a whole is the cheek. I don't recall a name for that middle ring. Everything else is the same.
