now i know why the shop does it, but if you are home, its wayyyy easier and safe to just get the whole assembly, you only saving peanuts by just getting the shock, that way to get whole new everything

Ever had to cut off a ball joint or control arm?
@mcmillaproject6 күн бұрын
The lower control arms yes!
@wstevenson20046 күн бұрын
@mcmillaproject yes the lower. Got a stubborn one on a 2006 BMW Li. The torx 40 that you have to hold the ball joint with do it doesn't turn so you can turn off the nut is flaring the end of the ball joint so the nut is stuck close to the end. It's a lock nut, so it's already hard to turn. I've used every kind of lubricant and busted or broken about 15 torx 40s. Looks Iike I'm going to have to cut it off some how with cutting wheel or Sawzall. I'm just trying to change the strut out. I'm doing the wheel bearing and the brakes and rotors while I'm in there. Guess I'll be replacing the lower control arm as well.

Is there any inventions to prevent rust for suspension/wheel/bottom parts? For example, I'm changing caliper and would like next person (just imaginative situation, you don't have to change caliper often) can unscrew bolts easily. What with I can cover surface of the nut when the job is done? Paraffin maybe? Thanks
@rynwolfeh190418 күн бұрын
There's an antiseize you can buy: Loctite Anti-Seize LB 8150, brush a little onto your threads and it should prevent corrosion, just make sure 100% you DO NOT buy normal loctite, as that will have the opposite effect and glue it on
@BabaYaga21415 күн бұрын
@@rynwolfeh1904 I use the shit on most bolts I encounter. Just gotta know which strength is right for the application. Blue for something you'll probably remove again in the near future, orange for a stronger hold in a spot that gets alot of vibration, and red is for the ones you never want to come loose, because it could cost you your vehicle and possibly your life. Besides, it's not as permanent as some people think. I've removed bolts with red loctite using my Milwaukee high-torque impact gun. Using a small propane or Mapp torch is supposed to help, but I've never had to go that far. I use orange more than the others.
