Have you been happy with how your GCI turf type tall fescue has handled the summer heat?
@grassymitten532414 күн бұрын
Hey thanks for the question. Overall I’m very happy with the GCI TTTF. It’s definitely not drought proof. Although, I did notice that I wasn’t watering as much as some of my neighbors with KBG and it was holding up pretty well comparatively.
@Cody_Codi_Code14 күн бұрын
@@grassymitten5324 I’m in central Iowa and tired of the wild water bills in the summer trying to keep the rye/kbg from going dormant. Came across your video just doing some research about the TTTF. Hadn’t really considered a full renovation. You have me considering it through. Would you mind sharing a ballpark of what your budget was and how many square feet you renovated?
@grassymitten532414 күн бұрын
@@Cody_Codi_Code I can give you an estimated cost. My front lawn is roughly 1200 square feet. Grass seed was about $100, 2 yards of topsoil $100, Scott’s Triple action starter fertilizer $50, peat moss $50. So with all that it was about $300. It was a lot of work and tested my patience but I was happy with the results in the end. Oh and the glyphosate solution was around $12-15 I think.
@Randy58-zn4ez21 күн бұрын
If you do not put down weed killer and just let native plants grow in your lawn it can better survive a drought. When you spray poison on your lawn you kill your soil and pollute our environment and poison wildlife. It’s September in Northern Indiana and lawns that spray poison on their lawns are all brown. I let native plants grow in my lawn and have even planted clover. My lawn is mostly green with some small brown patches. The areas with lots of clover and native naturally occurring plants are green. Also I do not water so a natural lawn is cheaper and less work.

Was your old lawn from seed or sod? I've killed off my lawn, which is currently sod. I'm debating on removing the sod layer or scalping and seeding right on top.
@grassymitten532427 күн бұрын
Good question, I’m not exactly sure what the old lawn was. It was already well established when I moved here 10 years ago. I’m assuming it’s the original lawn, so probably sod. There were several types of grasses mixed in. I’m about to start a reseeding in my backyard very soon.

I was wondering, can't really find the solution online, we moved to complete new build neighborhood and I was the first one to do my backyard, which honestly for my first time ever doing this kind of job looked awesome, until all the neighbors were not doing any job for the last 3-4 months, letting all kind of stuff growing in their yards so that everything started spreading out with the wind and my lawn is now slowly being eaten by clover, but I was told that I shouldn't applicate any weed killers until my lawn is at least 1 year old, is that true? I do want to fight the clover, but I don't want to kill the lawn in the process
@grassymitten53243 ай бұрын
Great question. That is true, this should not be approved a newly established lawn. A broadcast application could harm the new grass. You can spot treat with a spray bottle if you have just a couple areas.

This video is already one year old and I’m just now seeing it. I hate to tell you, but nothing that you spray on your lawn is going to completely kill the wild Violet. For complete control you have to dig it out by hand. Chemical companies will list all the different weeds. The chemical will kill just to sell you their product. I have been able to wipe out wild violet in my lawn, but it always comes back the next season. Also, don’t forget your PPE When you’re mixing your chemical.

That spreader is ridiculous to use. It will stripe. Your lawn doesn't matter how fast you go. You've got to keep the right wheel turning all the time and the edge guard is the only way to put the fertilizer and seed down so you get consistent ground contact. We used it and we have a stripped lawn.
