Ren is independent mostly because of the unpredictability of his chronic illness. He had a deal with Sony when he was 18/19 but fell ill and was unable to continue to perform. He had Lyme disease but spent six+ years being misdiagnosed with mental illness among other things. He finally received a proper diagnosis, but the disease and incorrect treatments have left him with a myriad of chronic conditions and autoimmunity that flares up with stress. This means he is unable to tour or even perform on a regular basis. Thank you for promoting him. Ren and the Renegades truly appreciate the reaction community. ❤

Welcome to the Slaughter House!!! IMO Ren is trapped inside his head being tortured by himself as we all tend to do and the multiple Ren's are just different versions of himself. When you are chronically ill and coming out of the Hell Ren said it is it like you have to rebuild yourself and shake of the old version of you. On a sadder note he said the last 2 months have been horrible and he's been in pain and mostly bed ridden again which also triggered his PTSD. Ren had a deal with Sony but they did not drop him it was a mutual parting of the ways as Ren was too ill. There was no bad blood and Sony actually released and allowed him to independently release some of the songs he did for Sony...they did not have to do it. I think Ren staying independent is the best route to go. Once you get a label behind you, you lose a lot of your own creativity cuz the label wants you to go another way and I highly doubt they would allow him to speak (meaning the content of his music) so openly and honestly about the world and all the things he stands for and against. During Twitch stream, Ren talked about how, after each relapse of his health, he feels like he's rebuilding himself again. Maybe it's about killing the old self and rebuilding himself. As I understand and recall from interviews and things: Ren was spotted busking when he was 19 by a producer who worked with Sony (who’d worked with Plan B). He asked Ren if the songs he was performing were his own and when they were, he said he wanted to work with Ren. Ren is a fan of Plan B and leapt at the chance. He had started to be ill shortly before that but he tried to struggle through his failing health. Sony and the producer worked with Ren in the studio and recorded a number of tracks with him and his band Trick the Fox. They sorted a great drummer to work with them too. They were doing a lot of corporate events to build things but Ren was struggling more and more. Eventually Ren couldnt keep his failing health secret and Sony let him take time to recover - except he didnt, he got worse. Eventually it was apparent Ren couldnt stick to the contract he’d signed and so they mutually decided to end it. Later Ren asked if he could have the masters and rights to the tracks they had done as he needed to raise money for his health treatment and the producer gave him the rights - and Ren put out the Freckled Angels album (I’m not sure if the demos albums were also from that time…) But basically, Ren was already ill when he got signed, but he was coping and hid it - and the split was mutual when it became apparent he couldnt keep to the contract. That would have been around 2010. Since then, Ren has had different management and has had issues with them at times - his track Power was after one management deal ended badly I think (i also think he and Chinchilla were with the same management that didnt work out - i’m not sure though). Hes currently with a management team that has some link to Andrew Lloyd-Webber I believe - but very much hands off I think, but he’s not signed to a label.

REN got the #1 album in the UK last year. Hopefully he gets it again with the new one! REN is phenomenal! ❤❤❤

The original meaning of the term “Rete” (I can’t say it otherwise this comment will be removed 🙄) was designed to be descriptive. Never insulting. It originally meant “slow and or dumb” which at the time was again meant as a description of mental intelligence defects in human beings because this was an area of medical health that was never touched on before so “political correctness” was not even a factor because these were new terms with new meanings. Gradually over time people started getting offended FOR these people that fell under the category and they themselves decided that it was to be deemed offensive with no actual backing or reason to believe so.
