Smh.... this is a horrid plan. Unless you absolutely don't care about sound quality. If you would actually like to know how to clean a record like that, you are welcome to message me. I just hate to see you ruin your experience with vinyl records by sabotaging yourself right from the beginning. If nothing else you may inspire me to put more effort into education of young vinyl record fans. Peace 🎩✌️🐀💿

Sir I’d love to hear your cleaning plan! I have very light splotches(transparent)on my older pre owned records that can only be seen at angles but the patterns remind me of what I see on the videos that people are calling mold. I’m looking to get rid of all those lil marks so my albums look brand new minus any scratches or scuffs of course . Any ideas or advice would be very much appreciated sir!
@grooveshackrecords8 ай бұрын
ALWAYS rinse first, then clean with micro fibre cloth. Otherwise you are scraping all that dirt along the grooves. Once cleaned, again rinse at the end thoroughly so no surfactant is left in the grooves. Then pat dry then leave on rack or use an air gun.

Number 1 mistake was using 409 on the label. Harsh chemicals are never a good idea. Try using warm distilled water and try the Dawn Free and Clear. But don’t over use it because you’ll have a hard time getting all the soap residue off. It may take a few cleanings to remove the filth. My first suggestion would be to contact a local record store and ask if they offer a record cleaning service. Then you can maintain it yourself.

I would have just dusted the red label with a dry cloth. It would have always been marked, but at least it would have been intact. I had a Disney record when I was a kid, it was the music from Dumbo.

I wondered, records are pressed and some grease or oil is used to release the record from the metal mother-record. In the beginning the grease or oil is liquid,dust and small paperparts lands in the grooves. Some clicks could be heard but it isn't dramatic because the grease and oil is liquid but what happens with the grease/oil layer with the dust and small paperparts. Doesn't it become more or less solid after lets say 30 years?

To clear a record in that sort of condition, fill the sink with warm water and Dawn. Let it soak for a few minutes, and use your fingertips to massage the dirt from the grooves. Remember, your fingertips cannot hurt the grooves. When you are sure it's clean, rinse in running water, again using your fingertips, to get it squeaky-clean, massaging out every trace of dirt and soap. Then drying, around and around, with a towel that you are sure doesn't shed fibers. You can't get it cleaner than that. How do I know? I have been at it since 1970. Note: the label will be fine, doing the procedure above.
