The colours and overall style of the Half-Life 2 Beta kinda reminds me of Rupture Farms from Oddworld: Abe’s Odysee and Soulstorm Brewery from Oddworld: Abe’s Exoddus

I don't think it crosses a line at all. It's meant to put you in that ultimate adrenaline dump situation of kill or be killed. I would say it's not much different than other survival horror games except the fact that you're killing people and not zombies. That just adds to the intensity, though. It's kind of like Running Man or Most Dangerous Game.

It's an interesting what-if, but I'm satisfied with the game's final version. I know nostalgia probably blinds me from perceiving the game in any other setting, but the Eastern European architecture and the eeire desolation permeating the game's countryside are what I think of when I hear 'Half-Life'. It's such a unique blend that makes it stand out from other sci-fi, dystopian game. Poison-filled skies and high vertical cities have been used so often in a variety of combinations that it could've made the game unremarkable. I also feel like, while both settings are just as dark, the final version is a lot more subtle in how the world is presented to you. It doesn't treat you like an idiot. You have to pick up on the unsettling transformations Combine rule has brought through observations and clues. Whereas the Beta seemed a lot more obvious and cartoonishly evil.

@crave2527Ай бұрын
I think while you was in your third quarter of screen capturing the game play only on PC you forgot to mention the microphone access in the DualShock 2 PlayStation 2 controllers. Any loud noises that would have been picked up from the controller such as a person screaming and are reacting to what they're seeing on their television in or the television volume being too loud once moving a heavy object across the floor of the game will have automatically fail your mission and would have to start over quietly again.
@crave2527Ай бұрын
Thanx for the history download bro. I thought I force lost these memory's back in the 2020 when the Sony PS2 came out and then a lil later came out this this game, ManHunt 2. There is one thing you forgot to mention about the in game 🎮 microphone in the DualShock 2 controller that pick up on any loud noises you would make while playing the game which would blow your hiding spot wile hiding Undercover for a sneak attack.

I've watched the video a few times now. I can really appreciate the discreet change of tone to represent the more sinister atmosphere of Silent Hill. I also really like the way you used silence throughout the video, in combination with the dope soundtracks and ambient sounds of the game. I always knew there was something special about the Silent Hill franchise, but was not mature enough to understand the actual weight of the story. Thanks for making understandable and entertaining.

The beta version feels like it was heavily inspired by many movies at that time, which were ultra dystopian, such as City of Lost Children, Dark City, Matrix etc. And then its end being at some industrial facility also is very reminiscent of many movies from around that time. A lot of games go through changes, so the question about why they changed Half Life 2 only exists because the early game got leaked, so many other games go through the same process, yet people never ask about it since they don't know about the earlier versions. The fact is that the early half life 2 was really just a prototype, I don't think they ever created it truly thinking it was going to be the final game, I think they just wanted to get something roughly similar to what they want in a playable state, to then change certain things and fine tune the art and everything else to finalise the game into something they were happy with, which was retail half life 2. You see, most game companies always create some prototype version first, because you really have to play something to realise problems with it, if some map area feels too long, if some enemy just doesn't work correctly or was a bad idea to begin with. Almost all games have these initial prototype versions. Also looking at concept art and feeling impressed is normal, concept art always looks better than the game, because concept art is obviously art, it has so much depth and feeling, that's the point of it. Concept art is meant to inspire the game developers, they fully realise they will never be able to capture that full feeling and ambiance within the art however, because game graphics just can't come close to art. So people looking at this concept art and trying to imagine half life 2 Beta would have been like that art, is unrealistic, it wouldn't have been much like that at all in reality.
