Love how Michael in GTA will mention that his first ever robbery was in Carcer City. And putting it into perspective, even with Trevor now being in the protagonist lineup, I truly believe Cash is the scariest and deadliest GTA universe protagonist. Love Michael, Tony and Niko. But Cash is just a different breed. I loved how they put a bunch of the masks from this game into GTA Online. My friend and I have based our current GTA character on the idea that they were part of the Smiley gang, with me using the "Please Stop me" mask and him using the normal Smiley mask

This was truly the golden age of gaming, especially for R*. Manhunt, Max Payne, Bully, and The Warriors were amazing titles that I wish could be revisited or revived but that will never happen. R* has definitely changed for the worse and I doubt these games will ever see the light of day again. I still signed the petition though for support. Also I hope some other people out there remember games made by Midway like The Suffering and Roadkill. All of these titles were a fantastic part of growing up for me.

yh I rmr coming out of college in 2005 and seeing a big cardboard cut out of the warriors outside a video game store where I live and it got me so hyped because I knew if rockstar were the ones that made it, it must be good. I agree, early 2000's rockstar cannot be beaten, was an epic time to see rockstar so hungry to rise to the top and taking risks. Now they've really turned into a bunch of greedy lazy sellouts, I mean 10+ years for a new gta... absolutely pathetic and sad, what a fall from grace.

I’m more upset that they just haven’t done more that two titles in that many years. A new Midnight Club would kill right now not to mention a new entry in Max Payne and Bully.

I truly love how Rockstar did the shared universe thing back in the 3D era. Bully was also part of that universe. I really hate how they went out of their way to separate the universe of RDR from the HD era GTA games. It would have been so easy to make them the same without impacting the plot or themes of either.

Played manhunt back in the day and it was pretty scary, not cause the violence just the atmosphere combined with the sneaking, prolly wouldnt play manhunt 3 myself just watch a no commentary on yt, but there is no way in this day and age its gonna be developed, atleast not by rockstar.

I never knew about this game! It's crazy that Rockstar made this game. They had a lot of balls to make a game this horrifyingly dark and gruesome. This definitely had to be one of the inspirations for those horror/gritty PS2-stylized indie games as of late.

The dingy grimy abandoned city streets and alleys of Manhunt reminded me a lot of Cry of Fear when I played it for the first time, I hadn’t played Manhunt until 2017 but I like it for the same reason I like Cry of Fear. The feeling that you get when you’re immersed and walking down the dark streets, sticking to the shadows is amazing.

The Smileys were probably the most sinister gang in the whole game. Fugg especially for his loud, angry shouting, but they all gave me the most creeps of all the enemy characters. I used the smiley face and hospital gown look for my very own character as a scare actor, which worked to amazing effect. Thank you, Rockstar 🙌

Anyone remember an old movie from the 90s called Judgment Night? If you love Manhunt I suggest you watch that movie, it has a very similar kind of atmosphere. The main characters are being hunted by gang members in a very run down decaying part of town at night. and have to use stealth to avoid them.

A nifty little fact only us true fans of this masterpiece knows about: The PS2 version of this game supported the headset and mic. (Xbox, unfortunately did not) By plugging the headset into the front USB port of the PS2, the voice of Starkweather transfers straight into your ear and the mic picks up sounds that the hunters can "hear". I did not know this at first. Until I sneezed while stalking one of the Skinz and he heard it. It registered in game red circle in the onscreen radar and all.

"We're a race of fighters not runners" the dialogue was always so hilarious and even creepy. Manhunt is by far in my top 3 games of all time. It's hard to mention that out loud because people think you're sadistic and insane but putting the violence aside this game really stood out compared to others. The eerie score, the VHS quality, the SFX, the combat, the voice acting and even the graphics. It was extremely well done and it was awesome hearing Brian Cox do the vice of The Director. I play through this game at least once a year. Thanks for the vid man

I played Manhunt as a kid and my dad would start out by stating that it was pretty wild, then getting more and more engaged each time he saw me play, even asking me to try the most brutal executions for several weapons. We played the ending together, truly an awesome experience 💯

I played this probably 300 times as a young kid and as a teen and even after all these years, this is still my favorite game ever made. I've played video games pretty much my whole life, im 36 now and nothing has ever compared to the way this game makes you feel. I understand why they stopped making these games, the world got soft AF, but on another note, I don't believe a "violent video game" like this or Manhunt 2 would get news coverage like it did back then. The world is different now, people except the most violent violence in all different forms of art for what it is and at this point, there really isn't much that can surprise people, well, maybe some people, but definitely not the majority... I see no reason not to make a Manhunt 3 on these new systems and to make it the most brutal Manhunt game we've ever seen. Manhunt is an amazing game. I would love to see a 3, more gory, more stealth, more factions, bring back the sick snuff film tournament but based around live stream on the dark web. This game was a triumph in sound design. The killing animations are too low poly and res for it to actually be disturbing, especially today. The sounds of bone cracking, skin piercing, guttural sloshing and squishing m, however, paints a picture in your head the graphics of the time could never hope to portray. That’s why they’re still so gruesome to this day.

Another great breakdown. Regarding if a game like Manhunt could be made today, I'd say probably not, not because we've became too sensitive and politically correct for depictions of violence, if anything I believe the opposite has happened, there's way more tolerance for realistic violence today then there was 20 years ago, we got mainstream AAA games featuring stuff like decapitation and dismemberment like it's nothing. However Manhunt represented a type of risk taking and a genuinely attempt to try something new and daring, something that will not appeal to everyone, and on that front, I don't think gaming companies today are as willing to take such risks for the art form, game companies have grown too big, too worried about making shareholders happy, and too unwilling to get out of their comfort zone, especially if all they need to do nowadays is collect money from the cash cow that is the live service format.

And regarding your question to the audience at the end.. i think your title to this video perfectly sums up Manhunt: a bizarre and disturbing masterpiece. I was lucky enough to play through the whole game when it released 20 years ago from me writing this, and it still stays with me. Such a terrifying, challenging and well crafted game! I honestly don't know if i can bring myself to go back into that world and play it again, after having come out alive. However your mention that it can be played on PS2 with USB headphones to alert the NPCs... Now that might be enough to entice me in to play it again to try out that new (to me) mechanic.

Cash getting angry at finding out that his family was killed could be interpreted in several ways, as was surely the intention of Rockstar. Cash has so few lines, and even less characterization outside of his willingness to commit horrific acts of violence, that it’s just as easy to assume that he’s a contract killer who did what he did to support his family but was eventually caught and convicted, as it is to assume that he’s just a sociopath who only cares about his family in the sense that the director believes he can’t save them, and is only angry when he finds out that they’re dead, because he was lied to, rather than the fact that they’re dead. Cash is not a good person, so leaving what is the one potentially humanizing moment he has, up to interpretation, is just genius. Of course, the alternative is that they left everything as vague as possible because they wanted the player to identify as the person committing the violence, rather than passing blame to Cash. His reaction of frustration at them being killed anyways would absolutely be the reaction of the first time player who spent hours trying to make sure they saved them all, without getting spotted once.

Damn, a new channel that talks about manhunt although it's so old. :D I'm happy I found you. I couldn't play manhunt back in the day because it was completely banned in Germany, you couldn't even show someone the cover. Played it 2016-17 the first time and loved it. In Germany we have "indiziert" and "Beschlagnahmt"... Games that are "indiziert" aren't available in normal stores, but you can still own them. "Beschlagnahmt" means basically, you can't own them and you can't show the cover to someone below 18... 2019 manhunt got a new review from the USK and now it's only "indiziert"

Since 2013 almost nothing is "indiziert" and the last game that was "Beschlagnahmt" was in 2016... Germany isn't as strict as before, all boomers are gone and we have cool people rating our Games... Unbelievable but you can buy Mortal Combat, Doom and Wolfenstein uncensored in Germany... but there is a censored version as well, so you can pick what you want...

Really loved that epilogue thoughts! Played Manhunt when I was about 14 or 15 years old and I already then was able to spot that there's a very well crafted stealth horror game behind all that controversy. I also think that there won't be a Manhunt 3 for many reasons like the rise in political correctness coupled with much better graphics that would make the controversy even worse or the fact that Rockstar can't really make this an online title that can be milked like a cow. Or that they're risking not even being able to sell a game like this in certain regions. It won't happen. One modern game that is kinda comparable in gameplay is The Last of Us 2. I know, it's very controversial and some hate it. But I thoroughly appreciated the sense of rawness, hopelessness, brutality and terror this game could produce while the gameplay is absolutely fantastic. Truly a thought provoking conversation piece.

I really enjoyed manhunt I was a little too young when it came out, but when I was in highschool and I bought it for myself I loved it. I beat it twice once when I was a teenager and as an adult without remembering what happed throughout the game. I really wanted to see what would've happened to cash and I kept assuming that he was either a character in the gta universe and you see him at one point, but in plain sight. If there was going to be a 3rd one, I'd like to see somebody else being the protagonist I mean it could be cash, but I'd like it to be someone so that the skins would say some racist shit to the character and the player would feel something and get back at them, it makes sense. It would give that 4th wall feel. Although I am still curious whatever happened to cash, we can assume that he's living his life or is on the run still?
