Thank you for the tutorial on the VCDS procedure. While I’ll use OBD11, the process you explain makes more sense to me than a lot of other videos I’ve watched. Cheers!

Do you have a workshop and if so, where are you based? Not enough guys I know who take this much pride and read up on the proper procedures to follow, I had the same issue on my a4 b6 quattro sport 1.8t, 2 abs modules later, the guy kept coding it incorrectly until I managed to work out the codes using the spec sheet with the cars manual and talked him through the procedure which also involved a steering alignment through vcds instructions, we also coded the other module which worked so I was able to sell it as a straight plug and drive and recoup some costs atleast but trying to find a reliable person to do any work is like finding a needle in a haystack

Removal is horrible - cut the freehub in half, just below what appears to be the lip of the retaining bolt (there isn’t a retaining bolt - it’s an all-in-one unit). The outside of the freehub and bearings can then be taken off. Get a DIY blow torch and carefully do a few heat cycles pointing the flame into the mouth of the freehub. It’ll then come out with a bit of persuasion, hopefully without snapping spokes or ripping the rim apart.

I’m just investigating mine as it seems like I’ve lost the heating and can’t see any coolant in the tank. What coolant are you putting back in Andrew. Will anything generic do??
@broughtonranapia1606Ай бұрын
the only concern i have on this rideon is the petrol tank sitting above the battery and while pouring petrol in you have a slight slip and get petrol on the battery it will go off thats the only gripe i have of this.
@retrofitterАй бұрын
I've done mine twice now here's how I do it. The biggest risk is over adjusting causing premature wear within the steering gearbox. Check the steering gearbox free play by grabbing the rag joint through the wheel well and rocking it back and forth while listening and feeling for a clunk comming from the steering box. No clunk means no clearance which means overadjsuted. There will be varying amounts of wear across the numerous gear teeth that are used at different areas of the steering range, so it is important to check for clearance at various steering positions. Do this at full lock left right and centre positions. Also running tires with firm sidewalls will improve the steering response and feedback and make your truck drive like a car.

I've been brake work on my cars for 40 years, and I must say these Leaf brake calipers are the absolute worst. All those spring little pad keepers, always popping the pad out, just when you get one in, the other pops out. Why would any brake designer do this. Why not a couple of drive out pins, the pull the pads like many other brakes systems. Or, pins that have a small clip to be removed, then slide the pin out, slide in the new pad, pins back in - done. Another thing, you better wear gloves on these Leaf calipers, or your fingers will be cut to shreds by all the sharp edge spring pad keepers.

So did you only need to take the top two bolts out to get the front faring off , when you fumbled about taking them all off the back?

Very useful vid. Thanks. They are M6 bolts and should really be stainless, incl nuts. I had to get the angle grinder out to remove mine. Bearings completely gone along with the 2 identical ones on the upper (parallel) shaft. I like the idea of installing brushes in a spiral although a previous dealer had put the last lot in as you did. My problem now is the main frame; some of the plate is delaminating, ie very rusty and getting beyond repair. No longer being made so hard to find.

I did the same thing, the tank had gotten so brittle that a 1" hole was left. Knowing I'll never find a replacement I got out the resin and fibreglass cloth , wrapped it a couple times , let set up and now better than new at a fraction of the price if one could ever find one.

I remember that well on my golf, the rear wheel bearing is an awesome design to put on just slides on, just need to watch out for the size being 30mm or 32mm it's based on your brake code, mine was 30mm (1KD) I used a scaffold bar too to replace it, if it was a common thing, I'd use a 3ft breaker bar, or a torque multiplier

Great video. I just did my 2010 Sienta here in Uganda. Didn't do the filter as it had only 46,000 km, but removed the pan and cleaned the magnets. Used genuine fluid 4 lts. As you said you don't notice much of a difference in operation. But it's all about keeping the car reliable.

Thanks for the video, had this issue for a while and this was a great help. Squeal has gone, however the parking brake will not hold the car on steeper hills now unless I go to around 12 clicks which doesn’t seem right. I’ve done the adjustment with the cogged wheel and to get the car to hold on a hill the adjustment is too tight so means the shoes are rubbing which is killing my economy/range. Any ideas?
