Raised up on the Clancy Brothers, herd this many times but never realized the true meaning of it until one of my three brothers died in July of 2021, and then again when my youngest brother died in November of 2023. At his celebration of life I sang this song. Had to sneak in a 6pack of Guinness and a bottle of Tullamore Dew, for the raisin' of glass. Spent three years at the Naval Base at Argentia, NFLD 64-66 . Rode the CNN ferries out along the South Coast on my weekends off, I am 79 now and been off the Rock for 60 years but the South Coast and the Outports still haunt me yet. PS, I still have my Jigger, and I recently played, and explained to my 20 drum circle friends what a Newfoundland Ugly Stick is!

Okay this is 6 years later but really I think Rap Music came from these ditties. Be it Irish or Scottish this is Newfoundland sound.😊

No matter what, not of a fan of the modern take on an absolute historic tune, and bastardising into this, fair play to the youth!

Fantastic job! Enjoyed every minute of it, and especially after studying Irish history, I can picture the whole scene that these lyrics convey.

A great version of one of my very favourite Irish songs - even if it originated in Bonny Scotland! 😉😉 Well done lads - looking forward to seeing you live one of these days in the Sunny South East! 👍👍✌✌

This is not "As I roved out" It's "Raggle taggle gypsy". Nevertheless, besides mixing up titles, it's quite enjoyable.
@dermur68 Жыл бұрын
No, it is most definitely not the raggle taggle gypsy. It's a completely different song.
