Hi! Thank u for this video :D! If I can't get the 150 grit, should I go higher grit like 200, or lower grit like 100. Thank u so much in advance if u get the chance to reply. Appreciate it :D!

you can also use safety can openers to do so. I got a cutter made for cans, cuts them from the outside in a couple seconds.

Does the tile saw have a place for the water? Thanks, good video.
@RedClayCandles
@RedClayCandles 8 ай бұрын
Hi Walter, Thanks for your comment and question. So the way it works is that there is a bucket under the tile saw filled with water. It has a hose that draws the water up and onto the blade and cutting surface. This keeps it cool and enables the blade to cut smoothly. There is a catch basin under the blade and the push platform that catches the spent water that needs to be emptied periodically. I hope this answers your question. Feel free to reach out if you have additional questions.

Apparently lighter work's too you put the flame against the can at top and you give it a couple of flicks and it'll pop right off

Hey, I’ve been searching for a way that isn’t necessarily quicker, but is less likely to chop the glass. Do you think this method is a great option?
@RedClayCandles

Hi and thanks for your comment. Yes, I've been much happier with this method of cutting glass compared to some of the other more manual techniques. Its a little pricier but the results are great. Feel free to reach out if you have more questions!

I have been picking up trash for the last two years while I walk my dogs in the morning. I’ve collected thousands of bottles I’ve tried several manual bottle cutters with little success. I have zero experience with power tools but I’m desperate. The problem is, Harbor Freight no longer carries this! Your video is the first that actually looks doable and adorable to me. Can you please suggest an alternative? Thank you.
@RedClayCandles
@RedClayCandles 8 ай бұрын
Hi and thanks for your comment. I apologize for the long delay in responding. I somehow missed your comment when you first posted it. First, good for you to pick up all that discarded trash. As for a Harbor Freight alternative, there are many. The two main keys are to make sure it is a WET tile saw meaning it has a way to continuously feed a stream of water. This is usually accomplished by having a bucket filled with water and simply dropping the included hose into the bucket to draw the water out. Next, and EQUALLY IMPORTANT, is to make sure you replace the blade that comes with the wet tile saw with a diamond-tipped wet saw blade specifically made for cutting glass. They are not as expensive as the sound. Usually around $55 +/- for the 10" size. If you find a set-up you would like my opinion on, I'd be happy to provide feedback. I would think Harbor Freight has a replacement but I've also seen similar, albeit more expensive, alternatives at Home Depot and Lowe's. Of course, Amazon is an option too. I hope this helps!

Could this method be used to cut bigger bottles? And odd shaped ones? For example, something like a makers mark bourbon bottles? Or a square jack daniels bottle?
@RedClayCandles
@RedClayCandles Жыл бұрын
Hi Chad - thanks so much for your inquiry. YES, this setup works well with odd-shaped and square bottles. Some shapes are easier to cut than others. The main challenge is pushing the bottle through at a right angle. Other than Jack Daniel bottles being somewhat thin in terms of glass thickness, they are fairly easy to cut. Your questions would make for a good video. Stay tuned... ;-)

Why not use a can opener? Takes 2 seconds
@Metqa
@Metqa Жыл бұрын
My canopener opened like 10 and then it stopped cutting anymore. That's why. My can opener is like a really old model, really tough and good and I almost ruined it. the new hand canopeners can't even cut the lids off like my old model, so I need a new method. I probably won't use this method since I don't have a giant vice grip , or a flat sander disk to use. i'll probably just use the sandpaper method from the previous video. but this looks like you could get through a bunch of cans at once.

Make sure you use the pliers or something to remove the lid after sanding, nearly lopped my finger off thinking "oh its gonna pop straight out really easily... no need to find them..." then it kinda sprang out as the pressure shifted and sliced the old pointer digit pretty severely! Excellent tutorial otherwise, well done! Side Q what would you edge the top and optionally bottom with? I was thinking car door edging trim? It's a Viking (Faxe) 1ltr beer can.

Worked like a champ. If you want to keep the top, either punch through the top instead of bending the tab, then tape a thin piece of cardboard over the tab before you start sanding so the tab doesn’t get sanded/worn. Once the top is off, you can press the flap back into place and boom, the can looks like it was never opened.

Hi Jennifer, Thanks so much for the question. I think it would be hit or miss given how small the cut would be but it would be a fun challenge. I will give it a shot and report back. Just curious, what would be the intended purpose? Perhaps jewelry? Thanks again for the interaction. -Andy

i would put them in my kiln to melt down to rings for pendants or wind chimes
@RedClayCandles
@RedClayCandles Жыл бұрын
@@theglasshopper OMG... so funny you mentioned that. I actually used to have a kiln myself for slumping bottles into different things. I did experiment with cutting the tops off of wine bottles into rings and they came out great. They worked better than beer bottles because they were a little thicker. They made great pendants. So given your application, I think they would work great.
