Hey! Watching your videos I have always wondered why do you manually select the gear? Why don't you leave it in full auto mode?
@ConstantinSPurcea7 күн бұрын
Thanks for watching. So I select the gears that way I’m in the correct gear when I need to start accelerating so I don’t waste any time downshifting as I need to exit a corner. Otherwise, I’ll press the pedal, engine has to rev up, then it has to shift and engage gear and that’s time wasted. For braking, I downshift while braking (and I also rev match it) so I get engine braking and I can modulate the amount of braking the car gets front to rear-the foot brake has a brake bias front to back, but if I add engine braking, then I can make the car rotate easier by adding or releasing pressure on the rear suspension and engine braking. I’m not sure I know how to explain that well 😅 If I left it in auto, the moment I lift from the throttle it would go into top gear and I’d have very little engine braking when coming up hot towards a corner. I also left foot brake, pretty much all the time. Even when I drive normally on the road. Allows me more control.

Awesome video brother 👍🏼. Are those wheels from an Infiniti? They look really nice. I bet they’re light right? What is your suspension set up? Are you using KYB shocks and IBACH springs? What series tires were you using? The car has a beautiful stance… i’m sure that helped tremendously amount on the curves.
@LSnium5 ай бұрын
Im wondering if I should put some high profile rims and low profile tires on my 90 LS400, when I corner too hard the tires squish to the side and I lose traction in corners. And also, I think the LS400 does way better in straightaways rather than handling corners.
@ConstantinSPurcea5 ай бұрын
@@LSnium they definitely can improve the handling. However the correct tyre would also make a huge difference. Some tyres just do not like sudden changes in direction at all. But lower profile tyres allow for less sidewall flex and thus more predictable when you do lose traction, which can happen more easily seeing as the whole thing is more “rigid” but if you run a good sports tyre with a lot of tread width and your alignment is pretty decent and the ball joints are solid (no play) then you’ll have pretty good control of the car. Damper stiffness can also make a lot of difference, that’s why multi-way adjustable coilovers are a good choice. Soft when you want them to. Harsh and sharp when you need them to.
@LSnium5 ай бұрын
@@ConstantinSPurceaIm very on the fence about doing mods to my car as it does good already and roads and highways here in California are all mostly straight and high speed and the car already handles good stock, I have a couple friends who have lowered and put aftermarket suspension and wheel parts on their LS400s and maybe theyll give me a ride in theirs to see how it feels.

I have no experience on tracks, but I have used the LS400 on streets in an aggressive manner and the truth is that it is quite agile in the curves. The only bad thing may be its weight, but for what it weighs it is still quite agile.
@ConstantinSPurcea5 ай бұрын
@@enon2761 yup, I agree, the weight holds it back no pun intended. Even dropping 200kg off the total weight can make a massive difference to the HP/Kg ratio and of course cornering ability. But usually you fix that with wider tyres. Keep in mind the new M4 weighs like 4-500kg more than this 🤣

I need a lot of things but where the money though. If I spend money putting things on the car then I have no money to do anything cause I have to work harder. So I choose to have fun with what I have 🙃 Gearbox means costs of the box itself, adapters, new prop shaft, maybe a diff, then control unit for the gearbox, possibly separate engine control unit, then tuner, then if I have an expensive ecu I’m not making the most so forced induction… then more power needs more stopping power… more grip… higher speeds less safe so need more safety so then a roll cage… it can quickly get out of control 🤣

how did you make that setup with the radio unit?
@ConstantinSPurcea7 ай бұрын
Toyota to ISO harness, extended the cables to reach to the amp under the seat, unplugged from the amp, plugged into harness, plugged into head unit and it didn’t work. Until I looked at the wiring diagram and changed two wires around I think it was orange and red and it worked right away after. I also got lucky with this CD-less unit as it’s shorter and it’s the exact length of that spot where the ashtray used to be.
@ConstantinSPurcea7 ай бұрын
I’m also not using the single din frame as it just about fits without the frame. So I have to insert the unit from behind the wood panel instead of the front.

Hey man, I've got a 95' LS400 and I was wondering if you'd recommend doing a coil setup. The reason I ask is because I daily drive the car. Any and all advice is appreciated, love your car and your channel!
@ConstantinSPurcea9 ай бұрын
I dailyed(?) it for 4 years on coilovers until I got my work car. It’s honestly really plush even on coilovers. The suspension arms setup is very well suited for anything. Sometimes it feels more comfortable in this state than my 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander in its standard state. You’re welcome to check my other videos and see the places I’ve driven this thing and how well it’s done. If you’re not too fussed about the cruise ship ride quality and don’t mind something that handles a bit *sigh* sportier then I recommend some REASONABLY sprung suspension setup. I went for the default BC Racing 12kg/mm (front) and 8kg/mm (rear) setup as it allowed driveability and sporting abilities

@@ConstantinSPurcea Thank you so much for giving me the specs you picked out, frankly I love how Plush it is but I've been looking for a bit more cornering ability so this sounds absolutely perfect. Thank you so much for the advice, I hope you have a great day!

What kinds of modifications and aftermarket parts have you installed on it?
@ConstantinSPurcea Жыл бұрын
Quite a few, mostly suspension and handling related. Few key ones: The obvious few are BC Racing Coilovers and the Nissan GTR Rays forged wheels with Toyo Proxes Sport on them. the rest: EBC Brakes with Redstuff Pads and drilled and slotted performance rotors. Full Hardrace adjustable pillowball bushed lower arms in the rear, with poly bushings on the hub. New arms and bushings all around. Custom exhausts with cut off valve. It was “quiet” in the video as it’s too loud for track with it open. Mishimoto Gearbox cooler. Lots of maintenance such as refurbished callipers and new OEM fittings for suspension arms and so on. Snapped a lot of the fittings on it 😫🤣 Those are the main few things. Engine is actually serviced with dealer parts. I get good deals oil from Toyota and filters so why not. It is stock after all, so stock service parts are just fine.
