Hi what is the difference between LAT and engage/disengage.. Is LAT always cued on/off? Eng/disengage is implied? If engage/disengage is always turned on/implied, how can we work on other stuff that will interfere with it? How can in do a greeting with engage/disengage??

Could we put the treats on the ground without the disks? My thought is to create a predictable pattern that does not rely on disks on the ground. For example, could we place a treat on the ground after every third step and wait for the dog to look up? I believe that this would still provide agency to the dog.

This is such great content. Thank you for sharing it on KZbin. After watching it in full, I have two practical questions, if that's okay. 1 - Can it be played both on the mat and without the mat? How do you decide which version to use? 2 - Should we use a bridging stimulus when the dog looks at the Thing? I think I perceived a verbal one being used in most examples, but not always. Thank you.

That's great! My dog's developed a dislike of chainsaws, tractors and loud sudden noises - none of which we can cue obviously! got much worse since fireworks night and has bolted from her walker a few times on hearing or seeing the above things. Do you think this LAT game and other stuff in the video will help or is there something else you might recommend? (there's also other stuff to work on like calmness with visitors to the house, guarding in some situations) PS I'll have dingo please too! 😂

This is so helpful. My mutt, Goose and I have been working on this since watching this video. He really struggles with over exuberance. The trash truck came by on our walk today, and he not only walked on a loose leash, but he let me know the truck was there and offered focus several times. I'm so pleased! We've been working on the TAB training as well. It is so much fun to work with him on that (it is also adorable to watch his nostrils 😂).

Question for Leslie -- I just bought your original CU book and the 4-DVD set. I am getting so much out of both! Can you tell me if the "games" 3-DVD set is completely different from the 4-DVD set, or is there some/a lot of duplicated footage? Thanks!
@LeslieMcDevittCU3 жыл бұрын
the 'games' one builds on the foundation one it shows various dogs doing the different exercises in the first one, their individual stories and the applications for them. but also consider for the most up to date stuff, today is the last day to register for Conference Unleashed 2021:-) I'll get the link
@LeslieMcDevittCU3 жыл бұрын

the Pattern Games which we use a lot now arent in the foundation or games dvd also btw. they're in the Pattern Games DVD and the third book. also the Conference Unleashed 2020 and 2021 recordings. some demos on this channel too.

@@LeslieMcDevittCU Great info - thanks! I just checked out the conference registration and I we are not in agility, just working on being calm around people, cars and especially dogs. Looking for more pattern games and demonstrations. I'd read the reviews on Amazon and it appeared that it would be valuable to read the 1st CU book first, so that's what I'm doing. I will likely get the 3rd book (not sure what the 2nd book is...) when I finish the 1st. I will also look for the Pattern Games DVD and the Conference 2020 recordings and will keep an eye out for the 2021 recordings.

What a wonderful resource! I've been using LAT with my dogs ever since "Control Unleashed" was originally published, and have played it a *lot* with my 2-year-old Aussie. But some of the nuances you mentioned here really made a difference, because we had a much better walk than usual tonight. We were on the campus of a small college, where we saw pedestrians, disc golfers, excitable small children, skateboarders, and of course, squirrels.

Do I hear you making a mouth-click? So the dog’s head rest is the cue to start the game, you click, treat cat, then treat dog. Dog’s head rest cues next rep?

What's the goal? What are you YESing to? Got your name from Katie bartlett.
@xmorbid16x3 жыл бұрын
I believe the idea is to get the dog to orient to its handler. Like rewarding the dog for checking in with its handler so the dog checks in with its handler in future. Rather than say fixating on a stimulus that will generate some reactivity. I think.
@LeslieMcDevittCU2 жыл бұрын
the dog's looking up at the handler makes the handler move to the next station. goal to put the dog in control. we are marking when the dog looks up bc this concept is just being introduced. goal to give the dog agency to say yes move forward or not
