I garden in Phoenix AZ, I learned not to try and grow pumpkins mid summer. I kept the plants alive and flowering . But no matter what measures I took the heat and high outflow monsoon winds caused many fertilized pumpkins to abort. So the I realized to try and yield when it wasn’t so hot out like in our winter and spring for pumpkins

It would be cool to see if you could turn it into cheese powder and make freeze dried mac & cheese kits!

Freeze drying removes water. There would be nothing left in the tray. It won't become powdered.🙂

Thered be potential for minimally processed food replacements, using it with broccoli powder and potato powder for a soup mix, or rehydrating with gelatine and citrate for a 'plastic cheese replacement

So quick question… I’m new to freeze-drying and I thought that freeze drying high fat foods doesn’t work and cheese is pretty fatty how come shredded cheese works?
@home.and.heart.
@home.and.heart. 7 сағат бұрын
It is because of the rapid freezing process and the makeup of the cheese. It helps to minimize the problems, but I don't think it has as long of a shelf life as non fat items. Also different kinds of cheeses rehydrate differently. 🙂

It'd be cool to see how it could be used in lasagna. Extra points if you can make the whole precooked lasagna all dry and add the water in the baking dish all at once... Idk of that's possible but it'd be awesome

That would be an interesting, extended experiment. Is it better to (a) freeze dry a cooked lasagna, (b) an uncooked lasagna, or (c) lasagna ingredients that you then assemble into a lasagna before rehydrating.

Hey I'm from Tillamook! My mom and grandma worked at the Tillamook cheese factory for years.. They were the white oompa loompas you see working behind the glass hahaha. Freeze dried cheese is dangerous good! I have to fight to stop eating it.. Seriously at the top of my list as one of the best things to freeze dry and snack on.

With a dehydrator you lose all nutrients and nutrition, pointless to use in most cases, except making fruit roll-up. Don’t settle or start for less, start with the freeze dryer.

One correction you need to make: Harvest Right does NOT recommend the oil less pumps. They say they are junk.
@WhitepepperFarm
@WhitepepperFarm 13 сағат бұрын
Harvest right sells the oil free pump as an upgrade, and it's a very expensive upgrade. I would imagine they recommend against a third-party oil free pump, but they definitely recommend their own.

@ Nope, they have said many times at face-to-face events, do NOT waste your money on the oil less pump. Buy the primer pump and save yourselves the hassle.

Can you do a different process and not be shredded? So squares, since you said it reminds you of cheese crackers, or is there too much oil? If you can, are you able to use different flavors on them?
