Thanks for the video, informative... Unfortunately you make a serious error when it comes to getting Omega-3 fatty acids from plants... Like most plant nutrients, they're largely bio-unavailable. This is becoming a serious problem in the West, which is suffering from metabolic disorders. Seeing as you're South African, you should seek out Pr Tim Noakes... The other issue is overshoot. We've reached the stage where it's impossible to feed 8 billion consumers without doing damage to our ecosystems. Whether it's growing salmon or grains. I see a looming population collapse coming.

I live on the fjords mid-west norway, there are 5 big fish farms on this fjord and they have ruined the quality of the pollack, coalfish and cod here! I have not grown up here but my wife and her family have and they not only noticed the massive change in fish quality but how few fish there are now, not that that is linked to salmon farms. The only fish me and my family consume here is the mackerel but we can only have summer to fish. Not to far up the road they have built onshore land based fish farms (massive tanks, "Salmon evolution" is the company's name). I will not buy or consume that either but atleast we could atleast get rid of these farms. Norway always prides itself on being eco-concious and friendly, but if you get in the way of their oil and fish money, you better watch the fuck out!

This is an informative video from a global perspective and I think as other commentators have pointed out, the best solution is to eat as locally as possible. The sad reality though is that the more localized the resource, the smaller the scale of the operation to produce it and the higher the cost. In the end, I just try to eat less; probably the best solution for us all. The one area I think your argument is weakest is with respect to hatcheries. Salmon produced in hatcheries are a replacement or supplement to a local salmon that has been displaced typically by dams that prevent fish from reaching natural spawning grounds. The alternative to a hatchery is to allow a local salmon population to simply go extinct. We could forego the use of a dam, true, but that would then destroy a necessary water resource for our own population and economic activity. It's a Hobson's choice for sure. We either ignore our impact on the environment or we make some attempt to mitigate it. I'll choose that mitigation. I live adjacent to Folsom Lake, which was created by a dam built in the 1950s, which killed access to a major tributary for salmon. Interestingly, when it was created a population of salmon traditionally connected from the Pacific Ocean to Lake Tahoe became landlocked, and continues to live, using the path between Folsom Lake and Lake Tahoe as its new environment...it thrives to this day, nearly 70 years later.

She didn't answer the question about whether wild-caught salmon is better or worse for your health than farm raised salmon. Can anyone answer this ? Also, she didn't touch on the subject of whether the original color of the flesh of farmed salmon is grey, as some say it is. The nice pink color you see is from an artificial coloring agent added to the fish. Is that true or not ?

If you want to tell the truth, well the truth! Getting the required omega 3 from vegan sources is far som simple, as studies have show that 5/10 % or 2-5% of omega 3 from vegan sources is converted to the remaining omega 3 only found in fish - unless of course you want to eat microalgae...

I’m curious what you know about environmental pollution and how it affects both farmed and wild populations of salmon and other species of fish. I’ve read conflicting reports that farmed salmon is higher in PCBs but then other sources say that’s old information. Some say that wild Salmon has the same levels or even higher levels of PCBs in their bodies. Some sources said that Salmon are not predatory fish. So any pollution they may have is relatively low. Their life cycle is shorter than other larger fish like tuna. The source I was reading said that apex predators like tuna and mackerel are at higher risk of having elevated levels of PCBs and mercury due to consuming smaller fish species in addition for having longer life cycles. Allowing them to accumulate more toxins in their bodies. Overall what do you know about the fish population in relation to chemical contamination? Another issue is that farmed fish seems to be fed all of the “leftovers” from other industries. Shrimp tails and soy based proteins. Or beta carotene to give the salmon its pink color. Farmed fish seems to be fattier and has lower amounts of omega-3 and higher omega-6. More likely to have parasites as well.

I worked in the Forest Service in the 70s in Alaska conducting salmon stream surveys. And I catch slmon all summer long. There are no Dams in Alaska by the way. Your $ facts are incorrect. There are a few Hatcherys in the state and they are on a specific river and a specific species. 99% of AK salmon are wild. If you have an issue with them dont catch salmon on those rivers. I've lived in the state all my life. Alaska has the best salmon in the world. Reds. Silvers, Chum, Pinks, and Kings! The state and federal government does a good job regulating commercial fishing. There is room for improvements to increase population. Alaska is the biggest producer of wild salmon in the world. To put the size of the state in perspective Alaska has more coastline than The United States. It is bigger than Sweden, Norway and Finland combined 431,547sq mi vs Alaska 665,384 sq mi. It is big. I can't speak for Washington state which is where I believe most of your United States facts represent.

No doubt fish farming has its challenges, but to think it would be sustainable to substitute with wild-caught fish is delusional - something a marine biologist probably should know: More than 50% of all seafood consumed by humans is today farmed and still many wild stocks are under pressure due to over-fishing. To preserve fish stocks, we need more farmed seafood. Not less. The vegan and vegetarian argument is that we should stop consuming meat and fish altogether, but farming too has a massive impact on habitats worldwide. We should not forget that mankind is indeed part of the ecosystem and that we have been affecting habitats for tens of thousands of years. Farming of fruits and vegetables isn’t a panacea. We need better animal welfare everywhere. Essentially what this means is that we as consumers must accept that poor animal welfare is as much driven by consumers’ demand as it is by the supply side willing to indulge demands for ever cheaper foods. We should all start demanding animal protein that has been farmed responsibly with animal welfare and ecological sustainability at its core. And I think this is to a large extent happening, albeit slowly: some of the practices described by the biologist here is long since banned in Norway. Since 1987, the aim was to cut the use of antibiotics in fish farming in half, but it has in fact been reduced with 99% since then. Norway remains a world leader when it comes to the use of antibiotics in all production of animal protein as well as its use by humans. Meanwhile, the pressures on fish stocks and the environment will continue to be a major challenge that the seafood industry - including the seaweed industry, as this is also a threat to natural habitats - must overcome. Although land-based fish farming is coming, it too will present a challenge to the environment. One could easily argue that the good biologist here is not providing a balanced or objective representation of the challenges of the global fish farming industry - and that her conclusions about how to tackle them indeed do not provide a healthier and more sustainable alternative. It seems quite obvious that most of her arguments have indeed been gathered by just watching another youtube video, namely this one: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rn2soZtteNlgqLMsi=lfW2kT7I6I6CgkWa

In 2017, I was in my second year promoting gender equality for a PAC, which motivated political action across the United States. It was at that time when we were among the first in the US to promote gender pronouns, the rainbow flag and even interpersonal meditation on our roles as human animals in society. I see it now as a form of quiet protest, and in some cases even a form of emancipation among, at the time, a smaller group existing in a larger social domain. The basis of this all is much the same as what India did against its tyrannical foe back in the early part of the 20th Century, as it was a form of peaceful, non violent rebellion. When I personally was sexually harassed, I was taken aside by both my manager and assistant manager and explained why I couldn't have a written complaint filed, as my female supervisor was someone they had been looking for for several months. I let it roll off my back as I had never complained about problems before this occurred, so why start I understand what women are going through, but have never been put in any position to solve any ongoing problems concerning them, as it is difficult as it is, for myself... to move up without social stigmas getting in the way of my own plight.

Possibly, women have two paths to success, their own success and their husbands success. Men generally have one path to success. Not that men wouldnt marry someone who is more successful (but less likely) and not that women wouldnt marry someone less successful (but less likely). As a biologist, it is obvious that a woman can attract men with different sets of characteristics than men attract women. As a woman, the appreciation for men is what they can do. As a man the attraction of women is who they are.

Guess what now you are on "male" difficulty mode. The gender shenanigans are at an end, hence why Trump is leading among Black people, even Californians fon't want their kids mutilated without parental consent. All just to say: times will get WORSE and sympathy for such arguments as you have here will decline in significance- hence you see DEI teams slashed, companies not hiring extreme-bigot-woke generations, especially your group, known to be ruthless, unaccountable, hateful, bogoted, unintelligent. Ha the men gave up so now the corporate narrative and messaging will be swinging back towards gender equity, ie fairness ie no more easy street privileges just for being a woman. Even Biden's Dept of Edu ruled no more gender discrimination ie female only auto-A giveaways of grants, money, opportunity.

Women come together to speak about discrimination and suddenly legislate themselves 50% of all prestigious positions, while the men can move to be garbagemen. Hello! People cannot question any of the ideological claptrap at universities. So you have a surplus elite problem where there are too many people chasing too little funding. So, these sinecure positions go to the elite. Who are the elite? Daughters of wealthy professionals with leisure to choose a non-productive profession - guess what , working people PRODUCE, while wealthy mediocre surplus elite form non-profits and go to fundraisers, go to out of state colleges paid by parents, etc. The liberal places have a catechism- no male suffering may ever be mentioned, and as you say at 2:10, you are going to focus on .... WHAT A SURPRISE- how rich white women have it so hard and require men who have no rights and are never allowed to mention sentencing and funding and other disparities- Science has become anti-scientific, corporate controlled status laundering operation. Science cannot be questioned in schools, just as your nonsense misandry, or history or current events, or economics or finance. No questioning of any climate science ever allowed! No intelligence permitted in academia! No men needed, no science needed, no facts needed. Anyway, all of American environment is doomed since the only path forward after American insolvency and dollar collapse is massive mineral extraction & export (& domestic supply; imports will be too expensive). OF COURSE oil and coal would vome back, and EVs use up too much metals needing mining, of COURSE the green revolution was inevitably under-resourced.... yet the idiocracy anti-male anti-competition anti-meritocracy in academia led all the people who trusted dumb conservationist aristocracy invested in clean energies and dumped energy & commodities... because academia is run by you little bigot gangmembers, no care that a woman teacher can bring a boy to bed and face no jail, women regulatly beat and kill partners but ZERO ACCOUNTABILITY from feminists, yet you'll just focus on your own little group, how can I make rich White women's lives better, we deserve it all, f men. Ugh I can hardly make it through a science class without questioning, which is never allowed, incidentally women are in aggregate different from men in ways of thinking. Of COURSE your Academy of Stupidity could never acknowledge ways in which men may tend to be better than women, though not the reverse. Wow, what a surprise, women focus on their in-group and have zero mercy for outgroup, also women tend to conform to authority more, as in: 1. Authority probounces 2. As long as it benefits women, women tend to agree. 3. People who dissent and compete, oppose, create, and challenge tended to be men, but now the idiot aristocracy of mediocre surplus wannabes have removed all testosterone and men and competition and quality from universities. I think all conservationists with good jobs came from rich families, will inherit houses and need little from actual income. Meanwhile, the good scientists of both genders will be labelled less skilled then thise children of the wealthy who could afford thise extracurriculars to Costa Rica, and the out of state elite university without care of cost. The liberal environmental sciences are about as rigorous as social science, which is to say that it is an emotional and non-sense cultural struggle session, and no high IQ persons are welcome. Lol at 60% women in your school and you claim academia and CALIFORNIA are not biased enough in favor of women.
@newssquabbler696 күн бұрын
What a surprise- entitled lady chooses poorly compensated "fun" degree, while men of course are expected and required to be productive, so men don't choose "fun" careers. Then the men who do, being expected and required to actually produce something (80% of taxes, 20% of consumption!) naturally WORK HARDER and sacrifice more, and outcompete, per capita, women for highest performers. But instead of wanting to be better or take a gram of accountability, the solution is instead OF COURSE to blame anyone else, here the harder working, smarter men who did more and worked longer and produced more and are more qualified. Remember male colleagues: this harpy would gladly tear out any male's liver to STEAL and CONNIVE by hook or crook, her way to an undeserved benefit. Hmmm should basic textbooks cost $250? "Who cares, let's have male tradesmen pay off our student loans.". Never challenging the structure or PRODUCING, only whinong at the end that you ate all yours and now you want others to have to share what they preserved. I hope America hits rock bottom soon so it can stop enabling this anti-science caste of gender charlatans. Wow, good job, homelessness up 20% and now California banned them, so women should start doublechecking locks on houses and windows. Nd we will have a new species in nature as homeless are made by millions now, and will have to live by local streams, etc. Lots of danger for these millions, many millions, and it is only going to grow, with mostly women having these ridiculous student loans, terrible work ethic, terrible planning, and recession only beginning, plus long term secular decline in American hegemony... Women should learn more self defense and demand access to weapons, as with people like the content creator in charge, ie no one in charge... American moddle class and liberal society is doomed. You kicked out all male voices except men who echo the opinions assigned them. Like really, you think you can just chase out the most productive, most hardworking, most scientific people and thrive? All the rich conservationists from rich families will be okay. All you poors are doomed, but don't question plutocracy, only ask why you shouldn't be given 50% of jobs automatically. Millions of poor disgruntled people, often women and elderly nowadays, will be joining in homelessness. Remember, men and wealthy can protect themselves. Liberal Women should learn weapon use since they have castrated the only men allowed to remain, and ruthlessly crush men to their early deaths of despair, 60% of positions are women yet overwhelming funding is women specific none for men. Wow even now there a so many homeless now forced into local natire. That sounds dangerous, better send the low-value hated target of gender discrimination- ANY MAN. But make sure not to recognize or pay him for your bigotry and vice!
