I miss my mom and dad so much sometimes, as I hear this song, I picture hugs they have shared over the years in their lives with me, and I just lose it and become a mess. They were my best friends. i thankfully have my brothers, but I miss them and it hurts through the soul sometimes. Lost dad in 2020, and mom in 2021. I know they are together.

On February 9th 1990 watching Tracy sing this in concert live in Australia I bawled my eyes out to this song. It had always been a favourite of mine and my husband’s. That night was the first time I had done anything social since he had passed away suddenly and unexpectedly at age 28. My friend took me to the concert and it was amazing because I’m a huge Tracy Chapman fan but boy oh boy this beautiful song took on new meaning for me that night and to this day it still makes me cry. Thank you Tracy for your beautiful words that allow us to let go of our emotions now and then, you helped me navigate grief as a young widow with the raw and real song.
