I have to say I really enjoyed all the info I received from this. I am just getting started on these cards. I seen them in the passed but never really thought of collecting until I seen one in person. i seen the color and how cool they look. I started doing research just like everyone does and put a task to collect all of them. I quickly found out that is impossible because of the card and the money some are worth. Now I'm on a cross road trying to figure out which way to collect. Still a little confuse on the backing of some of them. People say collect by players , teams , backing or commons. I say commons but now a days the prices for some of these are expensive. Buy raw or graded that's another thing PSA or SGC. I like the SGC ones since they have a black case look way better then PSA. Does anyone know of site where you could purchase raw at a good price that won't break the bank? That's my only worry about collecting the T206 cards is the funds.

Some nice stamps but the first few damaged ones are almost worthless in that condition. The "banknote" stamps are socalled because they were printed by the American, National, or Continental BANKNOTE Companies, private companies that also printed money (ie., banknotes) for the US government before the BEP took over in the 1890s. Overall, a VERY nice box of stamps!

I agree. When I was a kid, I remember going to the post office and buying the newest plate blocks of each of the stamps. The post office would also put them in the glassine envelopes. The only purpose that I saw from them was that the new stamps with the glued backs, wouldn’t stick to the glassine material. Especially when you lived in a humid location. Plus stock books back then were either made of cardboard or they used glassine strips. I show them in my video on how to remove self adhesive stamps from paper. It wasn’t until 30 or 40 years ago that I first saw the high quality German stamp supplies. Nowadays all I use are the Vario pages for my stamps. The prices add up, but they present the stamps so well.

whats the difference between a Honus Wagner, t206, with a Blue Piedmont back,against the red-sweet caporal?! thanks.
@UncleNacki
@UncleNacki 2 жыл бұрын
The T206 Honus Wagner was only meant to have Sweet Caporal 150 backs, and came with either a Factory 25 or 30 on them. Some people believe the Sweet Caporal 150 backs were the first cards printed in 1909 because any Honus Wagner cards with a Piedmont 150 back were only found hand cut. Some people think he wanted his card pulled from the set because he didn't want kids buying tobacco products for his card. Others think it was a money thing and he wanted more in his contract, but before the price was agreed, they started printing with his card. A few think there was a printing plate issue. Either way, a few of his cards leaked into Sweet Caporal packs, and the few sheets of Piedmonts that were printed, were removed before going into packs. So, some printing employees most likely pocketed a few hand cut Piedmont Honus Wagners, and thats how there are a few out there today. All Piedmonts that were hand cut and leaked, should only grade Authentic by PSA, SGC, and the others. A couple were numerically graded in error. I hope this was the information you were asking about. If not, just post another message, or any other T206 questions. Thank you for viewing my video.

You can not single handedly manage the entire collection. The time and effort spent would not be commensurate with the return unless you stumble upon one or two items of considerable rarity. Even this quest could drive you nuts. I would proceed as follows: 1. Go through a few boxes and select 1000 items you KNOW will fetch a reasonable return. 2. Classify these for sale or auction (with scans) and set the rest safely aside. Fortunately you have cat. numbers to help. 2. Determine the current cat values online (Stamp World) and apply a realistic discount. Ebay, Ebid, Delcampe, Colnect etc. 3. Replenish the sale items from the main stock periodically, again randomly. 4. Bequeath the remainder of the collection to charity in your will. Even this approach will keep you employed full time, and it is hoped, gainfully.

Thank you for taking the time to offer some tips. Since the video's were done, I've sorted most of the stamps in the video's into Vario stock pages. It gives the collection a much better look and I'm able to tell how many of each stamp I have. Plus it's easy to add to the pages as I find more in other boxes. It's been a while since I've worked on them, but plan to finish that group of stamps and do a follow up video with them sorted, since I've been getting many requests. I bounce around between stamps, coins, comic books, sports cards, and non sports cards. Just so I don't get tired of the same thing. This way, my hobbies continue to be enjoyable. Currently I'm focused on coins and baseball cards.

Heptane works well and baby powder is something I would never try. Once the heptane has evaporated and the stamp is removed I then use the transparent plastic in front of the dealer card you used and then cut a margin around the stamp. The stamp keeps its glue and is sticking to a background but can also be lifted if needed. Personally I always reuse the stamps that were not cancelled by mailing a large envelope to myself to force a manual stamping or cancelation. If I mail myself a stamp to get the cancellation and the post office does not cancel the stamp and does not want to cancel it manually when I go to them and tell them the mail was delivered without being cancelled then I have no ethical issues about resending the same stamp again on a blank envelope. They could have saved a lot of work for a lot of people by just canceling the stamps in front of me but in the large city I live the PO is not friendly to philatelists

I'm glad you liked the video. If you ever have any questions about the hobby, just ask. It usually takes a couple days for me to answer. Stamp collecting is a great hobby for kids. Because, many stamps are released to celebrate a part of history, such as an event or a famous person. I was around 5 or 6 years old, when I started collecting them. It actually helped me with my history lessons. I wouldn't know everything, but I would know the dates that events took place. Nowadays with the internet, you could look up a newly released stamp on the usps.com website, and it will go into more detail as to why the stamp was released. One thing to keep in mind, the United States only puts people on their stamps who have passed. Other countries will put entertainers that are currently alive, to get new collectors and unexperienced collectors to buy them. The problem is, they make them to make a profit. Because every stamp bought but not used, is more money in their pocket. Technically, we do the same thing, but our government has rules to it. Plus collectors of USA stamps, usually enjoy the variety of designs to choose from. I will be making more video's over the summer, with some being stamp related. Thanks again for watching my video.

@@UncleNacki greetings, I've been pretty busy working on my collection and hunting down a few more cards. It's really a crazy market out there, finding deals ain't what it use to be, lol. I did some trading with a local dealer and picked up a few decent backs. I'm up to 85 cards now, but no real direction. Here's my question. So many of our shows are mostly loaded with modern stuff. What are some solid shows around the country that have a good selection of pre-war items especially our beloved white boarders and are deals especially group deals available out there. Ebay has turned into "high buy it nows" and what few actions available seem to be on steroids with runaway bidding. Thanks again for taking your time and appreciate your thoughts and expertise.

@@azparadize2437 It's really a hit or miss kind of thing to find true vintage at a show. Seems every table is loaded with either sealed boxes from the last 5 years, the ten cent to a dollar singles boxes, or a bunch of modern auto/relic cards. I'm from Connecticut and I'm lucky if I see one or two T206's at a local show. There's better vintage shows on the east coast in Pennsylvania and heading south. You'd really have to search out the larger shows with 50+ tables, for better odds. Usually on the net54baseball.com website, there will be certain shows mentioned in the posts, because there are a decent amount of board members, who are also card show dealers and they are mostly vintage guys. I'd put a "wanted to buy" listing, on the net54baseball.com buy and sell section. There's a separate T206 listing on the website, or just keep checking the other members listings. Usually prices will be better there, because there's no fee's for the seller. I also use this website to find shows. sportscollectorsdigest.com/collecting-101/show-calendar Ebay is difficult to find a good deal lately. For me, it's just luck if I find something priced right. I used to check new listings every 30 minutes. Now I check them once a day. It's really just luck and timing. Plus it's usually a card that was just listed and nobody else had gotten a chance to see it and buy it. I've actually had many times where I'm paying for a card, while someone else is also, and they clicked their payment info faster than me and I click to pay and then I get a message that the card is no longer available, then two weeks later I see the same card but a new seller and the price is doubled. Other times, it might be a listing with a spelling error, and a majority of buyers can't find the listing. Like, most people would search "T206", I also search T2o6", and I also search by back brands, because a person may not know it's a T206 card, so they list it as a Sovereign, Cycle, or some other back. You get a bunch of unwanted listings, but every once in a while, something good comes along. I only added 2 cards to my set in the past month. Lately it's either one card or none. The two cards were a Red Dooin Sovereign 150, that was showing it as a Sweet Caporal back in the title, but then when you clicked on the listing, there was actually two separate cards listed, the Sweet Caporal and a Sovereign 150, so it was overlooked. I paid between $50 and $100 less than a usual sale for that card, and I found a Joe Lake St Louis No Ball, with a Sweet Caporal 350 Factory 25 back, which sounds like a common card, but it's so difficult, that PSA doesn't even have a listing for the card in their population report as existing. I've only seen one other in the last 12 years, and I lost that auction because I didn't realize how difficult it was at the time. This was before PSA was grading them by Factory Numbers. A similar scenario type of card currently is listed on eBay for $2500 and I paid $125 for a card with the same rarity. So it's really just luck and timing lately, and if I have some extra cash to spend.

@UncleNacki
@UncleNacki 2 жыл бұрын
@@azparadize2437 The T206 market has been on fire the last few years. Even though the T206 cards were the set that has the most cards that survived, because so many were printed, it still doesn't come close to the print runs of modern cards. 2022 Topps basic cards will end up having a print run of a million cards each. More collectors that have been getting back into the hobby, are from the junk wax era. So many of these collectors don't want to take the chance of another hobby crash. So lots of collectors from the 1980's and 1990's now collect tobacco cards. Population reports basically prove everything. With over 86 thousand 1989 Upper Deck Ken Griffey Jr cards graded just by PSA, then you look at a common T206 card with most being under 500 graded by PSA, and the price is about the same or a little less, and the T206's are 110+ years old, it's just a better investment. then when you get into the more rare backs, the population numbers can be under 20 cards with PSA and SGC combined. So there's more demand than supply for many of these cards, and that is causing the values to continue to rise. There's also a decent amount of collector groups that specialize mostly in the T206 set. So there's always buying and selling happening all the time. Prices have increased so quickly over the last few years, that it's possible prices may drop a bit. Kind of like a stock market correction. But even if this happened, it wouldn't hurt the T206 hobby. It would actually make it even stronger. Because a percentage of people have basically been priced out of the set. A few years ago, a common PSA 4 would average $50. Now that same card is $200 to $250. So it makes building the set more difficult. Rare backs are even crazier. when you could get a slightly more difficult back in a PSA 1 for $30 and now the same card is $200 to $300. Prices continue to amaze me. Currently I search for overlooked rarities and purchase them. I can't afford to purchase the cards I used to purchase 5 to 10 years ago. There's still plenty of cards always for sale, so building a 520 card set is always possible, if you have the money. It's a bit more difficult when it comes to the rare backs. Because there are more collectors than cards that exist. So many are locked up in collections. I'm asked on average, about 5 times a week if I'd be interested in selling or trading certain cards of mine. I always say no, unless I have duplicates or the ability to upgrade and sell my lower grade to help fund the higher grade. It stays fun, because your never finished collecting the set. Even if you do finish the set, you could upgrade, or even get into the more difficult backs. Or do something completely insane, and collect every front/back combination that exists. Thats how I collect the T206's.

Hello ,this video is so cool...I've always wanted to have a t206 boston team set for my PC .how would I got about purchasing a set at the lowest price possible from a trusted seller
@UncleNacki
@UncleNacki 2 жыл бұрын
The first step would be to get a checklist of cards for your team. You can find that information at t206resource.com then join a trusted group of collectors like www.net54baseball.com which has a dedicated T206 section. It's pretty safe over there because so many members police the message board and if anything is questionable, it's dealt with right away. You can even ask others for references of a seller. The other great part is there's no fee's to buy, sell, or trade, and no sales tax. Plus there's a ton of information on all the old sets, especially the T206's. My user name over there is Ronnie73. I think during the sign up, it asks for references. As far as buying at the lowest price possible, there's many different card backs, so you'd want to stay with the most common and least expensive, which is Piedmont. You'd also want to start out with a lower grade card, which is a personal preference. I personally don't mind raw or graded cards that grade as a 1 or a 2. I just try to find a card with no writing, no paper loss on the front (very minor paper loss on the back is ok), no ripped or missing pieces, and no trimmed. That might sound like a lot, but for a Piedmont back card, there's probably a thousand of each card, so the right card does exist for your collection. Plus with the large amount of them, you can wait till the right one at the right price comes along. T206's with common backs are always available. Use eBay's sold listings to find out the price range a certain grade for a certain player sold for. This way, when one becomes available, you'll know if it's a good price or not. Take your time building the set. It's not a race, but a marathon. If money is not a problem, you could build a 520 card set in less than a week. That's why I tell everyone to wait for the right card and price to come along. That advice is a bit different when it comes to rare card backs. Because many cards are less than ten known, and most are locked up in master sets like mine. So, sometimes when a certain card front shows up with a certain card back, you almost have no limit as to what the card might sell for. When a Piedmont sells for $40 and the same exact card front shows up with a more rare back like Tolstoi, and you see the graded population reports combined, have a total of 2 cards, and this one is not graded, so it's a 3rd card, it could easily sell for $4000+ which is a hundred times the Piedmont price. Also, always remember, if you start out with nice clean lower grade common back cards and you buy them at a good price, later on, you can always sell for a small profit and either upgrade the card, or get one of the slightly more difficult backs. That's why I say to buy smart. So you never lose money. I read about people losing money all the time on T206's and I just can't figure out how and why. They must of bought the first things they saw and didn't research the market and prices. I've never taken a loss on a T206 and all my T206's have risen a minimum of 5x the original purchase price, and others have gone to 20x more. The more you research the set and learn about how the prices work when comparing the cards to their population reports, the better you will get at making smart purchases. To a point that you could literally flip cards a month after the purchase, and double your money. Then take that doubled amount, and do it again a month later. There's a few T206 guy's in the different internet and facebook groups, and thats a big part of what they do to help fund their main collecting goals. Hope that helps. Sorry if I repeated a few things or broke things down to the simplest explanations. Sometimes I say too much, and that get's some people more confused. But that's how I've always been. If I left anything out, or caused you to think of some other questions, just ask. I try to respond within a couple days. Glad to hear you liked the video. Thanks for watching. Ron

It's difficult to put a "worth" on my collection. Values seem to continue to rise with nearly every sale of more difficult backs. It's worth only what someone is willing to pay for it. So when the day comes that I decide to sell, then I'll know the actual worth. I stopped posting because the phone I was using had broke and I'm having a difficult time with the new iPhone. I was using an Android before. So I stopped but planned on working around the problems, but just haven't gotten around to it and many of my video's were card show related and these video's were all before the Covid. I haven't been to any shows since. Hopefully that changes at some point. I think that I have 3 T206 video's that were recorded before my phone broke. I just have to edit them and upload them. They just show more ungraded singles and me babbling about similar things. If your interested in seeing them, I'll put the effort in to getting them edited and uploaded.

@@RDCards Glad you enjoyed the video's. I have 3 more recorded, that I just have to edit and upload. But they were recorded around the same time as the others. Not much has changed except for the values have gone way up. I did notice a few deals last week where I figured the cards would sell for $200+ and they sold for around $75. If I knew that, I would have watched them and placed some bids. So maybe prices are starting to level out again, because of the economy, but there's other cards that continue to break records. So, it's too soon to tell.

Value would depend on the player. Some cards are more common than others. Nobody really knows why. Maybe certain cards were doubled up on a sheet, making them twice as likely to find them.
