I am definitely NO Holden book of knowledge. But it was interested to watch and know more about this Cylinder Head. I am guessing without reading the story on Google that these heads were a custom built unit. What is the main advantage with the 9 Port head ?

I have restored my old work truck that i used for painting, i did a resto on it 20years ago and now i have retired i did another resto on her again, i wont be putting paint in the back of her anymore ! I have put the motor into a 1972 HQ BELMONT UTE with a 5 speed supra box and salisbury 10 bolt diff ! I have always wanted a nice worked street motor and now i have got it, and i wanted to keep it old school , that why the triple sus are on it ! Everyone is going big v8s and tubos etc, just wanted the new generation to see something different !

it needs at the least 2inch sus or 45 webers to make full power, also the cams a bit mild, at g&h in the 70s the wildest wade solid cam would spit fuel out the trumpets idling at 1200rpm, thats only a baby cam
@MrWildtriplesu
@MrWildtriplesu 3 жыл бұрын
I have been advised by the SU professional that tunes the SU's if i ever pull it down put a smaller cam in it for more torque, he said at the moment i have to rev it more before the cam comes in !!

@@MrWildtriplesu mate 2inch SUs are a no brainier, working on vacuum they only open up when the the motor wants more fuel, just like a holly vac secondary, still the SUs will be way down on power compared to Webers, they make a huge difference in power from bottom end to top in power and also the induction noise is heaven

@@MrWildtriplesu I believe so yes, silly but think of it this was, a stock coil is around 20,000 volts and 30 ish joules of energy, my MSD is 45,000 volts and 135 jules, what starts a fire better, a match or a flame thrower. I also use Brisk spark plugs with a 3mm gap, side discharge. I wa kicked by the msd one day, it hurt real bad, had to go sit down lol. Im an Ozzy.

Kscorer2, what problems would they be? I have had mine since '03 and never touched them, driven through every weather possible and taken it on some long trips, some over 1000klm. The only issue I have ever had with my motor (which is very closely spec'd to this one was keeping enough money in my wallet to fuel the bugger, my darling Premie chews more fuel than my old Landcruiser.. over 22l per hundred..

Mate the engine is a 351 cleveland stroked out to 383 cubic inches. It has a set of Trick and Mansweto blended CHI 3V 225cc heads with a 655 thou lift flat tappet solid cam that has a duration of 267 at 50 thou. Very basic combo but works extremely well and makes 453.6hp on the chassis dyno now and should run 10.50's easy. If anyone out there wants my complete engine specs I would be happy to give them to them to be able to see another tough clevo competing. Thanks for the support. Cheers....

G'day from NZ. Dunno if you've done it yet, radius the leading edge of the pistons (in the SU's) around 10mm, and you will be surprised at the FREE performance increase! Read it in an old pom mag, did it at work with a file and some wet and dry (remove the needles first), cost nothing, very happy! Had my HJ since 1985, had the SU's since 1988. Beautiful noise they make!!!!

@ruwithlee1970 Holden are a division of GM, but this was back when they developed their own engines from scratch. They have a few parts in common with Chevy engines, but they are original. This was the biggest 6 cylinder Holden made themselves. There are other sizes based around the same block; 138, 149, 177, 179, 186 and 202 cubic inch engines. In their day, they were beating 351 Cleveland powered Ford Falcons in racing

Pretty cool motor mate, personally i believe that the 179hp blocks are a much better motor as you can punch them out 120 thou and get 192cui. had a 186 which was 60 thou over - so 192cui with a stage 5 yella terra head and triple su's in a 2 door lc torana. su's suck - swap them for a set of triple 45mm twin throat webers or go for fuel injection from a vk commodore with aftermarket injectors and computer or go for an aftermarket manifold straight up. had a 44/84 speedway cam in the torana.
