With conifers, it takes a long time to grow such branches, but to have a beautiful work, it still has to be cut off❤

There are two follow up videos on this tree already, it’s filled out very nicely and at this point the cut off branches aren’t missed anymore

that are no airial roots, those are normal roots, they grew in the moss, not in the air. This is an exposed roots form in my opinion, But nice idea.
@Bonsaifly10 күн бұрын
Oh yeah for sure. The thing is that even on tree that usually easily send out aerial roots in the right climate it’s tough to get and maintain them in temperate climates, especially on a windy balcony as I do. That’s why I gotta „cheat“ a little to eventually get a result that won’t look any different

@Bonsaifly14 күн бұрын
To be fair, indoor Bonsai is quite the science in and of itself. It’s not impossible, but it can never be everything that bonsai is. However, I started with indoor trees only and still maintain tons of these early bought trees. It’s possible to do it. I should make a an updated video

How far on the pruning spectum would this be? How much more wouldve been too much taken off?
@Bonsaifly18 күн бұрын
This was pretty severe but the first styling always is like that. For your second question: I could’ve just let one branch on the tree and it would’ve survived. So as long as you leave some green the tree can recover. Preferably do it in spring or autumn and cover wounds with cut paste

i have a similar olive tree but i cn't get it to bend is their any Trick (what is that cloth you wrap around the trunk?)
@Bonsaifly22 күн бұрын
It’s called Raffia. It doesn’t make bends easier but it prevents moisture loss when cracks form in the bark due to bends. No tricks really, just bend carefully in a rotating motion with the direction of the wire

What is the purpose of the cutting in the bark you did earlier? Or just for aesthetics?
@BonsaiflyАй бұрын
I actually meant to bend this tree much further than I ended up doing. I only stopped because the bark on the other side of the trunk started to crack. This bend was made with a bit of a rotation, which is why I decided to hollow out a part of the trunk instead of going for a V-cut. This way little living tissue is removed. I might bend it a little further over time where this will still come in handy :)
@BonsaiflyАй бұрын
In case this didn’t come across clearly (which it probably didn’t): hollowing out the trunk like this or a V-Cut are techniques for bending parts of a tree that have become to rigid to bend just by using wire and pressure.

Thanks for the kind words! It’s hard to fit a full „how to process“ into a shorts video. Also, I don’t consider myself ridiculously skilled, I am confident I could teach doing this to someone easily
