Thanks for the comment!!! I can't in my wildest imagination why you'd need a hole 15" in diameter? If you check out every professional fence installer, they're all using either a manual post-hole digger, or a power auger, both of which dig a hole approximately 9-10 inches wide. I'm in the same situation, also thanks to Ian. What I'm considering for the broken posts is to initially dig down deep enough around the post to drill holes using a hole saw or large enough drill bit. Basically create holes for the 'persuader' bar to fit through. If that doesn't work I would try to drill holes in the fence post as described above then use a short, durable strap to loop through the hole posts & over the 'persuader' bar. Good luck!! My current count is to replace 17 posts, all broken during Ian. It'll probably take me a month, if I'm lucky. 😆

@@pauldavidarmstrong6069 right on, I am also in the same boat. Brand new fence install 3 months ago got decimated by Ian. I have 10 posts snapped and several others heaved. I have seen some videos that suggest I might be able to straighten out the heaved ones and reinforce with more concrete. Another idea I saw is to actual rebar and pour concrete inside the post to stiffen it. (the one caveat is this makes it very challenging to replace any bottom rails if needed in the future, but not impossible.) The other option is steel beam inserts for the inside but those cost about $80 per post. I want to bulletproof my fence for any future storms since it is so new it was painful to see it go lol.

@@pauldavidarmstrong6069 I'm in Port Charlotte. We literally had our fence put in a month before the storm destroyed it. we have a lot of intact post that are just leaning. can you use this same method to straighten them?
@pauldavidarmstrong6069
@pauldavidarmstrong6069 Жыл бұрын
@@legendkochis9909 I think drilling hole(s) into a post to straighten it would NOT be ideal. If the posts are leaning yet otherwise undamaged, it may be possible to partially dig out dirt near the post in the area you want the post to move (a post hole digger might be preferred but not required) until it can be repositioned to where desired. Then refill the hole & compress the dirt. Be careful not to dig too deeply, you don't want the post to go deeper into the ground. Also be aware that posts set in concrete may take a bit more work to reposition. Another option would be to add concrete to better set/hold the post (once repositioned, before filling the hole) but it's not required. I hope that helps. 🙂

@@pauldavidarmstrong6069 The posts are vinyl and they're set in concrete. I don't want to dig for ever. I'm thinking of digging around the larger part of the concrete top then wrapping a chain to a farm jack to get them out. Then refill the holes and start over. I was just trying to avoid replacing the posts since 90% of them are intact

@@richwahneEXPERTSmadeEasy Roger McGuinn brings his solo show to any one of several venues here in Connecticut where I live and I try to see him every visit. Some years ago he played at the Katherine Hepburn Center in Old Saybrook and I attended the show. At the souvenir table before the show was an attractive dark haired woman speaking to the customer ahead of me in line. She was remarking that "We were and there" at several places around the country, and so on. I guessed she was Roger's wife and when it was my turn I asked "You must be Camilla?" and she admitted that was true. We chatted for a few minutes and I mentioned that at a previous show at Infinity Hall in Norfolk, Connecticut, I was somewhat disappointed that "Bells of Rhymney" was not performed and asked if it might be in the set list that evening. "Oh, I don't know about that" she replied. The show started and Roger played his first set then took a break. He came out for the second set and, sure enough, "Bells" was the third song in. I stood up and gave a very visible two thumbs up. After the show I went back to the souvenir table to thank Camilla for the show and asked if my request had put the song in the show. "Oh, I'll never tell" she replied with a grin. Whether it did or not I can always believe my request had put "Bells of Rhymney" into the show that evening

In doing this repair on a truck with rusted metal hard lines I learned how to do this job with that issue and how NOT to do it. If the quick connects come off the sending unit easy, but don't come off the steel lines near the front of the tank easy, then what you want to do is remove the 2 black nylon fuel lines from the 2 clips holding them to the top of the fuel tank and leave them connected to the rusty steel lines. If the steel lines are rusted to the point the quick connects won't easily let go trying to force the quick connects off will destroy the steel lines...I learned this the hard way, and learned that the steel fuel lines are NLA, so I had to make new ones. Doorman makes a couple of 3/8" fuel steel fuel line parts that with a compression coupler and careful bending make a good substitute for the line between the filter and the nylon line, as well as the quick connect end of the 5/16" return line. The return line is likely to be harder to replace because finding a rust free section to use a compression coupler on may require getting fairly close to the engine. I guess the one benefit of all the extra work screwing up the steel lines caused, is that there's less rusty fuel line to fail in the future.

There has to be some major difference between my 2002 suburban and your 2003. There's no way to get at those fuel quick connects at the front of the tank from the passenger side of the tank with the rear axle jacked up 6" and the back of the tank dropped. It's hard to even see them from there. I've had to reach around the cross member in front of the tank and the frame on the driver side to feel those quick connectors (can't even see them). and with the line rusted the stinking quick connects at the front of the tank aren't letting go...All I've managed to do is flex the rusty steel lines enough to make a leak in them. What sucks is the the quick connects on the sending unit come off easy, but those hoses are attached to the tank...If GM hadn't attached them to the tank I'd be done already instead of giving up for the night...Hell If I had left the tank in and cut a hole in the floor pan, as I have seen others do to replace the fuel pump I'd probably be done and have saved myself much of the trouble.

Hi Mark, Thank you for your comment, and glad that you liked the show. As far as having concrete inside the vinyl post, I'm not in favor of that technique. It doesn't allow the vinyl to flex at the level it was designed. More importantly, it allows water to get trapped inside the post on top of the concrete which can cause a breakage (why I had to replace mine) should you have a deep freeze. Peace, and good luck!

Dealership Service Departments (along with Parts and Body Shop) are forced to pay ALL THE BILLS of the dealership. It's called the "backend" in the dealership world, and it keeps dealerships open. The selling of the cars is a bonus (so-to-speak); but all the heavy lifting is on the backend. So that's why you're seeing RO's (Repair Order) that are SO heavy in labor. Your $300 dollar estimate actually sounds low when you consider that most service department hourly rates are at or above $100 PER HOUR. I hope that helps understand your situation a little more clearly? Thanks for the comment!! Rich

The dealer replaced the first time and the total was $1500 - when i burned the second time i used the lifetime warranty replacement so it was free. I have since learned/read that since the pump sits in the tank and is therefore cooled by fuel, running the vehicle down to empty is no good. I have since tried my best not to do so and have gotten longer use out of it. Thinking about adding a second fuel tank in place of the spare. but for now need to figure out why the gas pump keeps clicking after it reaces 3/4 full, its a real pain esp in winter standing there clicking it and everyone watching. cheers

It’s been 5 years. How’s its holding up? Did you put the fence in yourself to begin with? I’m not a professional but I think that the hole is too small for that 5x5 post. Did you use metal inserts to keep it breaking again at the sheer line? I came across your vid after I made that mistake. Now I have to dig out the old posts. But I’ll make it easier on my self and just rent a jack hammer and break the concrete and meet the hole relatively small. My post holes are 16x16x24. And this time I’ll put in the metal sleeve first. 😤

Hi, Great question! I had the original posts installed by a local fence company, around 1998; and those installers did a few things wrong which allowed water to pool inside the post. The water would freeze, and break the post! My repair allows the water to drain, and has lasted perfectly! No metal inserts, and not a single issue to announce. As a matter of fact, the posts that I replaced are in excellent condition! And here is something to know...I live in an area that has severe wind, almost all winter. Forty to fifty mile per hour winds aren't out of norm for this area, and my fence takes a beating! Keep this in mind about the size of the hole. As you pull the round sleeve out, the concrete is compressing the soil around it, and over time the compression and settling holds the vinyl post almost perfectly (from what I'm seeing after 5 years anyway). I have to say that I stand behind my install techniques. Thank you very much for the comment! Peace

Great video, Could you have cut the form to the proper depth and left it in? Back filled around it? I feel like I’ve seen form like that filled with concrete and used as deck footings.
