I will come back to this layout, but videos will appear on the main channel. Ive left this channel active as an archive, nothing new will be added, not at the moment anyway.

Instead of having chocbox connectors under the baseboard, I put mine on the front batten, connect the platform light wires then screw the connectors either on the front face or on the bottom face. Saves crawling under the baseboard.

Hi John, great video, beautiful loco but unfortunately I have the same problems as you, following your tips I have loosened the base plate screws and bogie screws, but I've noticed that the pickups don't always stay in contact with the back of the wheels, did you have to bend them to ensure consistent connection? I've fitted the ESU Loksound Micro with sugar cube speaker and it sounds great, probably sound better with a larger speaker but I did not have the nerve to carry out drastic surgery on a new loco to make the larger speaker fit, Well done on your installation. One extra point, to avoid any risk of the loosened screws dropping out, do you think it would be OK to add a drop of non permanent threadlok to secure them in place, I've used it on RC cars and it seems to work well.
@piccadillysidingsoogaugemo64456 ай бұрын
Hi, you could try using thread lock, if it’s non permanent shouldn’t be an issue. TBH though, I moved mine on as reliability was always an issue, yes I did have to adjust the brass pickups, and constantly clean the wheels. When you have other locos that ‘just work’ it was highlighting the prarie’s poor performance. Hope you get yours sorted. You might consider a stay alive, never know might solve the issue. However, it’s where to mount that too.

@@piccadillysidingsoogaugemo6445 Hi John, its such a shame because its a really nice loco, but running issues do seem to be a bit of a problem at the moment. I recently started to dabble with N gauge but the 2 new locos I bought just would not run so went back for a refund, these things are being sold for quite high prices but unfortunately are not fit for purpose, its all a bit frustrating,
@piccadillymodelrailways5 ай бұрын
Hi David, sorry for the delayed response. Sadly new faulty locos are a thing, and yes it is not acceptable, but something we can’t always avoid. I have found OO to be worse though, in my experience. If we return such stock it will send a message that greater quality control is needed and is so important for customer satisfaction.

Fabulous review John on the heljan 33 I have the earlier mainline version. Just to let you know just for a bit of weathering I used kiwi liquid shoe polish in a bottle in brown and black it works absolutely fabulously and you can wash your brushes in water but when dry it becomes waterproof and only costs about £2.50 from asda. Don't tell sc Johnson!!

I did have some 3v from Layouts4u, but I’ve not seen this anywhere else. I bought it for coach lighting with 3v batteries. You can use 12v if you connect a bridge rectifier then wire to any pickups. If you coaches don’t have pickups you will need full metal wheels. Dapol sell these 20 for around £15-18. Then pickups are available from DCC Concepts wiper pickups and spring pickups are available, but you will need to fit these yourself. Hoping that helps

Hi Andy, yes they are, because they are very rare compared to the non latching relative, which are 10 a penny. Things may have changed now but when I made this video the only place they are found is Layouts 4u. Having used them, I’ve found I don’t bother switching on the lights as you have to find the switching magnet and remember to turn them off again otherwise you return to yet another dead battery.

I used the Illuminated Models kit to correct the marker light issue with the Bachmann 66789 and was well impressed with it. About an hour to fit front and back, good price and does the job. I've also upgraded my old Hornby 58 using their kit - now that was a bit more work. Tried various fixes on my wobbly Hattons 66, was happy with the non-rotating axle boxes on my Bachmann, so snipped the stubs off the axle boxes and permanently glued them on. 10 minutes, job done and it runs like an absolute dream now.

Loving this scene John. Can I ask about the sock over the vacuum cleaner for the static grass. Do you use it to save the static grass to reuse or is it necessary to make it stand up. I have been having dreadful problems making mine stand up so all advice is appreciated
@piccadillysidingsoogaugemo64452 жыл бұрын
Hi yes the sock is used to collect the ‘waste’ ready for re-use but equally does help to stand the grass to ‘attention’ so to speak. It’s possible the batteries are going flat in your applicator or that it’s not so powerful. I did make mine from a fly swat but the dedicated applicators you can buy are 3-4 times more powerful than mine. Hoping that’s helpful.
