Hi Paul. Was wondering if you know whether I can convert WAV to Akai format using Awave Studio. Then transfer them to the sampler using a USB floppy emulator drive? So I could convert the files on the PC, copy them to a USB stick, then plug the stick into the floppy drive emulator on the S3000XL. I'm thinking that would save a lot of time compared to editing on the sampler, but I'd still be able to access that lovely Akai sound.

Yes you can use Aware to convert wav to Akai format, I have never used a usb floppy emulator so not sure, but I can’t see why it shouldn’t work, In Aware you load in your wav samples , then create an instrument, and give your samples a root key, and save in akai format, you may then be able to copy to usb and then to emulator, What’s file extension on the samples you already installed on the usb floppy emulator?

p0lym0rph3 Yes if you have the latest SCSI2SD board, check their website, www.codesrc.com/mediawiki/index.php/SCSI2SD To put akai format samples on a SD card using the latest board, you can use a program called Win32 Disk Imager which is free, for transferring full akai iso sample cds, If you want transfer individual samples, use a the program in the video (CST) it’s pretty expensive to buy.

Just to help anyone else who reads this, I managed to do it with a great free command line software tool called AkaiUtil (available here: sourceforge.net/projects/akaiutil/ ) It's not the easiest software to learn, but after a few hours getting to grips with it I managed to work it out. I have never really used floppy only ScSi hard drives for storage, Theres no problem converting wav to akai format using programs called Awave Studio, CDXTRACT, and an old version of wavelab 5 etc... But putting the coverted samples onto floppy can be a pain in the ass, unless you have an old Wins OS (98, ME, maybe XP) and some software, This a list of tools that may help martin78.com/samplers/akai-tools/ Also if you can find an old copy of Wavelab 5, you can setup a midi in and out from the computers midi interface with the Akai Sampler to send samples back and forth through Midi cables and save them on the floppy inserted in the sampler,

No I don't think so, you just have ID setup chain right, the zip drive needs to be the last in the chain ID 7 and the terminator switched on, at the back of the zip drive, but transferring the samples will take a long time onto the SD card, as your loading them into memory (32mbs) from zip d, and then saving them to sd, I don't think there is a quicker way unless you use a PC and software like chicken system translator,

I've updated the SCSI2SD firmware to the latest version and set the 1st device settings as follows: SCSI ID: 5, Device Size: 32MB, "Auto" box checked. All other devices are inactive. When I try to format the SD card in the Akai it displays "Hard Disk Drive Not Ready". I have tried selecting "FORM" and "ARR" and neither format the SD card. I am unsure if this is because the Akai just doesn't see the card, or if there is an issue with the settings. Does anyone have ideas or advice as to what I'm doing wrong?

Did anybody tried to connect a SCSI2SD V6 to Akai S3000 XL ? The SCSI2SD V6 compatibility pages says it works with Akai S1100, Akai S3200 and Akai S5000. I guess it should work with the S3000 XL ?
@Music-Gear
@Music-Gear 5 жыл бұрын
In Theory it should work, I bought V5 because its more stable, and I didn't see the point in getting V6 as the s3000xl only reads 512mbs per drive, yes you can have 7 virtual drives but I believe ID 6 and 7 are for connecting to the computer or a SCSI CD/HDD Drive, so really your only losing one virtual drive of 512mbs , and as well V5 only lets you create 4 virtual drives. I have 2gb of samples stored over 4 virtual drives, but if you owned a Akai s5000/s6000 the V6 board makes perfect sense, if the sampler is updated to 2.14

could you not just upload the samples to the sd card after being converted and using them from akai ?
@Music-Gear
@Music-Gear 5 жыл бұрын
Yes you can but its not practical, you can only see 1 virtual device in windows and no partitions folders where to upload it to, all virtual drives and partition folders are only visible inside chicken system translator when the sampler is connected to windows., To do it your way the samples have to be in the right format of partition folders, which you can only create with chic sys translator, You can copy an akai sample CD image to the first virtual drive without chic sys translator or the sampler, but your limited to using only the first drive, this would also go for it you where to copy your own converted samples which have to be in the right format and CD image, but you still have to use some kind of software to copy it to the first virtual drive, if you just put the sd card into the computer nothing will show up unless you use the right software, this is because the sd card has been format to use with the Akai sampler, not windows. If your looking to do it that way buy the scsi2sd V6 board, you can copy straight to any virtual drive on the sd card without connecting the sampler to windows,

If you insert the SD card into your computer you will only be able to see the first drive - that's a limitation of the scsi2sd board V5. If you want to see all 4 drives you'll need to connect the scsi2sd board to a scsi card in your computer. This only applies if you have the V5 board. If you have the V6 board, no scsi card is needed to see all 7 drives (V6 supports 7 drives). So if you only have a laptop V6 board is the way to go, this will let you copy samples to the sd card to any virtual drive on your computer

Imported an .xml configuration from a complete SCSI2SD kit I purchased for Ensoniq ASR10 - SD pre-formatted and full working on 4 drives with consecutive IDs but not SCSI 3 (fixed and reserved to ASR). Saved the configuration to the Akai SD card. Changed the Ids for the Akai in 5-4-3-2-. Now I have 4 (four) perfect SCSI drives in Windows Device Manager, and can manage all the stuff changing SCSI IDs in the sampler,, so far so good but in Trans 2.9 I can see just one drive on the left pane. And I am able to transfer well any sample from an AKAI CD image. Don't know the program very well. Would like to have all four SCSI drives available in Trans. To me it's a problem with SCSI numbering IDS or termination in the SCSI2SD utility because if I dont'have a SD partition with ID "5", I couldn't even see the SD card in Translator, even if it appears normally (4 drives) in Device manager. Maybe is a partition size problem: 2 GB each is too much. Many thanks in any case. You did a tremendous job with your videos, really helping out ! :-) Thanks again.

Hi Paul. Just an other simple question. Can i use the Akai formatted SD card at Translator. I mean i format the SD in Akai via SCSI2SD and after i put the SD card to the PC. I think the translator will see that and can copy the Akai programs.
@Music-Gear

I don't think so, when you put the SD into the PC it will try to format it to Fat 32, a window will pop up to format the card select cancel, if you then open translator i think you won't see the four virtual drives, this is what the scsi2sd board does, it acts as a scsi drives so the computer can communicate with translator, if you only put in the SD card into the computer the computer is going to see that as unreadable

Maybe you are right i dont know. Im just thinking this, becuase i have USB Zip drive. If i put the Fat32 formatted disk and start Translator, the software will see the disk as a regular windows drive. But if i format the zipdisk inside Akai and putting back to USB Zip drive the Tranlator will see the disk as an Akai fomatted SCSI-Atapi device. Same thing happen when you add an Akai cd image file to a virtual disk drive with Daemon Tools. The translator also will read as a propieraty disk, SCSI-Atapi device....and you ready to go. Thats why im thinking it must work with SD also, but i will see :) Sorry for long explaining. ..but this is a hard mission

Translator will see the SD card as a SCSI drive, but it will only show one SCSI virtual drive, you need to connect the scsi2sd with the sd card in it install in the sampler or in a external Drive Box, connected to the computer with a SCSI Pci Card and cable, to see all 4 Virtual Drive, Thats if you buy Version 5, I am almost certain if you buy V6 SCSI2SD board It will show all the drives if you only connect the SD card to your computer.

Now im one step closer to make this setup. I also have the Awave-Translator 2.9 combo. I put an usb Zipdisk to my Win7 computer. Actually the translator see the USB zip drive as SCSI device, and do the formatting nicely. BUT if i drag and drop a sample only the volume will be copied to the drive without the samples. This is maybe it really need Windows XP. So next i think i have to buy a computer for windows XP with Scsi card.

Are you formatting the usb zip drive to Akai formatting, this is done by, connecting the usb zip drive to the sampler and using the sampler to format the usb zip drive, also i think you can format the usb zip drive, to akai format using chicken sys translator 2.9

Asadinho RvS Great to hear if you have problems with SCSI setup change the scsi ids, look in description, of this video, and try that setup,

Yep, I went for the 5, 4, 3, 2 configuration and it worked fine. What I am a bit confused about is that the SCSI2ID app set 4 partitions of 2GB, but the sampler has set-up a single partition of 60MB. Any idea what I've done wrong?

OK, try this, go to the sampler and select scsi id 2, load it, then select format, format the whole drive into 9 partitions at 60mbs per partition, if you look in the description of the video there is a link to my blog with a step to step guide on how to do this, let me know how you get on

Hi! Thanks for your helpful video. I have some question, if you can help me.... If i have Awave to convert files and Chickensys Translator is enough to transfer the samples? Or also need SCSI2SD? I mean... can i make a virtual drive with Chickensys Translator on my PC HDD?

I haven't tried that, But it may work. Are You Trying To Use your computer as the storage device for the sampler? If so you can create virtual drives in chicken sys but you must have a scsi card install in that computer connected to the sampler, I think the scsi ID for the sampler to communicate with computer has be on 6 or 7, the virtual drive created must have the same scsi id

just to add , in the video the 4 virtual you see inside chicken sys is the virtual drives on the scsi2sd, look at pt1 and pt2 of the videos, it may make more sense,

Yes this would be my plan. I use two pieces older PCI soundcards, and have no more slot, so i have to find SCSI card adapter which has Pci-e connection to computer. What kind of SCSI card you have in your PC?

+++ one more question: If you have the SCSI2SD you still need SCSI adapter to the computer as is see the video...

Kovacs Arnold I have a PCI SCSI Card, if you buy a PCI-E Card there is no guarantee it will work, and it's very hard to get 64bit drivers to work with PCI-E SCSI Card

Kevin Roberts To format the card, you can read this article on my blog this should help akais3000xl.blogspot.ie/2017/09/akai-s3000xl-formatting-partition-sd.html?m=1

Musik Cheers buddy will give it a go. Once connected via SCSI does that take out external drive use?
@paulcmusik
@paulcmusik 7 жыл бұрын
Kevin Roberts I don't think so, if you have the scsi2sd card install, that acts as 4 virtual drives and if you connect an external drive to the back of the sampler via a scsi cable that acts as the 5th drive, the akai s3000xl can take up to 7 drives they just need to have their own scsi ID
@paulcmusik
@paulcmusik 7 жыл бұрын
Kevin Roberts also the SCSI2SD version 6 board acts as 7 virtual drives this would disable the external drive that been said, you can configure this card to only show maybe 6 drives leaving you to access an external drive

Hi im about to do the exact same thing with an s1000 and wondered if were you able to power the scsi2sd card from scsi termination power (ie the ribbon cable) or did you use the floppy power cable instead? Thanks for the vid btw☺
