Just one point is you covered the heat vent and unless you cut a hole for the heat vent in the front of the unit using a vent diverter so dirt will not store under the unit. I wonder why you never capped it off as now it is no good and when the heating system is cleaned it is going to blow dirt under the unit.

Great video. I wanted to comment that you did not ensure the anchor frame was flat on the top, as the screws that make the anchor-square have quite some room to allow for an uneven anchor-top. Im my case it took me quite some time to level it all out with a laser-level. But i see your approach of leveling the cabinets first, and adjusting the anchor upwards would have saved me quite some time and headache 😅
@kitchensbyrannes12 күн бұрын
Yes, you're right, and that is deliberately. I tried "Ikea's way" at another kitchen and that didn't work, as you experienced yourself. Framed is warped and leveling not easy. Doing it the way I show in the video is a lot easier I find.

What's your solution to doing a kitchen island when there's underfloor heating (and it's a rental to boot) and you can't under any condition drill into the floor? In my case it would be a 2x2 cabinet setup (2 80 cm side by side, and a second row of 80's back to back). I was thinking of just putting it all on the normal legs, connecting the cabinets and calling it a day... or am I missing something?
@kitchensbyrannes12 күн бұрын
Yes, you're missing this video. kzbin.info/www/bejne/mqmsqIyVbdB5hNUsi=8AxdcJ3rNv9io9JN Standing unsupported in the Ikea legs only won't work.
@7HillGeorge12 күн бұрын
@@kitchensbyrannes Aah so going back to a classical construction lumber frame. Interesting that the IKEA people didn't suggest this; they came up with 'just use the normal frame and glue it to the floor'....which seemed like a rather unsatisfactory solution. And now I'll have to figure out how to combine this with a floating laminate flooring where you normally lay the floor until the legs... Thanks for all the help so far; your channel answers a lot of the questions that IKEA can't.
@kitchensbyrannes11 күн бұрын
You're welcome. For the floating floor, I wouldn't worry about having it done before the island. A "luxury" vinyl plank doesn't move much due to temperature and humidity changes. 100% plastic.
@7HillGeorge11 күн бұрын
@@kitchensbyrannes Actually in my case it's the MDF/HDF kind of laminate flooring (Quick-Step). As much as I would just like to fill the whole floor and put the island on top... it's a hard requirement that you install the kitchen first, floor second for those kind of floating floors. They'll actually reject any warranty claims if you don't; supposedly it screws with the floor's ability to move if you put an island on top. I agree that this is one of the advantages of PVC flooring; you can just put stuff on top. It's interesting how flooring and kitchen people usually have competing interests here; usually both will insist that the other should go first. ;)

The most common solution I've seen is to just add seperate legs; at least in Europe they have them in the right size.
@kitchensbyrannes11 күн бұрын
I'm not sure what you mean by separate legs. In this regard, Europe and North America have the same island solution except the legs in Europe are 80 mm and here they are 120 mm.
@7HillGeorge11 күн бұрын
@@kitchensbyrannes I should have specified more. I was talking about the thick bar-height legs that are meant to be exposed. Examples that I've seen used for it here (Netherlands) are called Olov and Utby. So basically they just support the overhang with a big bar-height leg; have never seen them do reinforcements to support an overhang. In regards to the standard undercabinet legs we have both 8 and 11 cm available.

I deviated from the IKEA design and used a single row for my setup. A year later, a 5.0 earthquake hit, and the island swayed but luckily held up. I recommend sticking to IKEA’s specs or using more than one row for added stability. I never expected an earthquake here in over 48 years! Also, the IKEA legs performed flawless as I watched my 15ft island actively rock left and right

Incredible video! I do have question: What should you do if you are not installing cabinets up to the ceiling? We will have at least a foot between the ceiling and the top of our cabinets - is this a case in which we would still use wall anchors to attach the hanging bracket, in between our studs? THANK YOU!
@kitchensbyrannes12 күн бұрын
Thanks. If you can get a good secure hold into the studs, anchors between the studs aren't necessary.
@johnmoore867413 күн бұрын
Before installing suspension rails for my base cabinets, I noticed I have only 1/2” of stud available at the corners to attach the rail to. The first hole in the rail is an inch from the end which means the screw, and each successive screws, would miss their studs by a half inch. I’m debating whether to cut a 1/2 inch off the end or drill new holes for the screws. It’s also problematic when the two rails meet in the corner with only 1/2” available to each one. I suppose I could cut into the drywall and add some blocking to the corner. No one will see it anyway. I appreciate your thoughts on this.
@kitchensbyrannes13 күн бұрын
You don't need rails in both walls in the corner since the corner cabinet only have a bracket on one side where the walls meet no matter which cabinet you use.
@johnmoore867412 күн бұрын
I forgot to mention there won’t be any corner cabinets, just empty corners. So, instead of the rails, I think it’ll be better to use 30” 2x4 pieces to support the countertops in the corners rather than rails or those flimsy fixa brackets. Thank you for letting me think this through! I love your site!

Ah, you should have said so :-) Hanging the cabinets onto the rail is not the topic of this, and the other rail video. Hanging the rail is. And, lifting the cabinets up onto the rail is really easy, but what most Ikea kitchen DIY's seems to struggle with, is to get the rail right. If you fail with the rail, hanging the cabinets afterwards becomes troublesome. Makes sense?
