My first climbing Half Dome was in the late 70s. My last time was 2009, just before permits became required, about 6 months after my second heart surgery. Little did I know my heart still wasn't functioning properly and I almost ended up in the ER that night. But I completed it. Very winded, but successful. No more hikes like that for me. Now I have to rely on videos like this.

Gonna be heading out there in a few days for a new years trip. How was the road up to the trailhead? Last year we had to park a mile and a half from the trailhead because it was washed out. Is it a similar situation?

How cold was it at night? I recently camped overnight in the mountains around Leeds, UT and there was frost inside my tent and my dog’s water bowl froze over. 🥶 I don’t want to do that again lol, so I’m wondering if it would be better for me to do this hike in February or March?

temperatures there in Feb. and March will probably be just as cold

Genuinely curious, you’re just ok with thrashing that truck? I mean if I won the lottery Sure… 😳
@nickbreakseverything4 ай бұрын
This is a great honest question. I definitely see it from a different perspective than thrashing my truck. The memories of people I've met and places I've been and enjoyment I get testing my limits as well as my equipment's limits far out way anything else. I have crinkled a few different vehicle before the Ranger so I am no stranger to body damage. It's just metal. I actually admire trail damage if you could believe that. Now don't get me wrong. I don't intentionally try and damage my vehicles but I'm also not necessarily afraid to try a hard line that may dent or scratch the truck up. The way i see it is that I have more fun in one day in my truck than others ever have the entire time they own their vehicle. 😄

I was wondering if my 31s would get me through the Rubicon. I suppose I'll need sliders and a front locker at least? haha
@nickbreakseverything5 ай бұрын
Yea, sliders are a must. I suppose you could get away with 31s if you have more ground clearance than my ranger. The ranger is very low to the ground. If I had 31s on my Jeep then I could easily get through just cause it has so much more ground clearance.
