I have had my fig for about 5 years now and it has thus far refused to fruit at all. I dug it up and brought it in the house this year. It seems to be doing well but still no fruit yet.

Get rid of it and buy another 1 or 2 don’t waste your precious time on that one. I have over 45 varieties and all but 2 give figs the FIRST year. Life is short. God Bless Happy Thanksgiving

Where on the cane is the fruit produced? If I have long canes will they produce offshoots that fruit all throughout the whole length of the cane or only at its very tip?

I have never heard of this but i naturally do this. Strange! I always talk to the bees while working on my garden (a Scottish thing), but i find myself doing this when there are a lot of bees in the area i am working in. So weird! :)

Bees are not needed to pollinate fruit, and vegetable plants. I know how to pollinate plants without having pollinators do it, for me. I am going to give this video a thumbs down since it is not completely true. The best way to avoid a bee sting is to STAY AWAY from bees. I believe it is possible to be near bees without getting stung. The closer a person is to a bee then it is more likely that a bee is going to try to sting a person. Staying calm is the best advice you gave, and walk away from a bee is the best advice I am giving, so just to doth!!!

Have fun pollinating an apple tree. It may be easy to pollinate things like pumpkins and give your tomato trellis a shakey shakey for pollination, but big trees. Not fun.

What a lovely surprise to see Dean and Seed St Louis pop up on the sidebar when I was watching another gardening channel. As an Edwardsville Zone 5 transplant to Zone 10 SW Florida, learning to garden down here has been exciting and a challenge.

Do you hang the peppers upside down or right side up?
@SeedStLouis11 ай бұрын
Either way works! It can be easier to tie them right side up because the stems that hold the fruit are less flexible than tomatoes so can break if you hang them upside down.

Nice! I didn’t realize you were trialing storage tomatoes. Just saw those offered by a small seed company I use sometimes and I tried one. Not much luck with it so I’m excited to see which one you pick.

Hi Dean! I have some tomato seeds I brought back from Santorini a few years ago. Also some white eggplant and a type of cucumber. They still germinate well. I'm happy to share with you if interested.
Great job explaining. Very clear and to the point. Do you have a video showing how you made the trellis? Thanks.

Some great info here, thank you! I have a 1/2 acre yard just over in IL and a large section has been dedicated to a food forest, only since late 2021. I'll need to watch this again to take down all the fun new plant suggestions. Do you happen to have a list of the recommended plants you can share? No worries if not, thank you again for the great info!

Great presentation, thank you. Questions: what year would you start pruning a young fruit tree? How do you decide how low you want the lowest branches to be when the tree is still young (3-5 years). Specifically pear trees in our case.

After attending this webinar I bought a $30 kit off of amazon (taps, tubing, a filter) and tapped a 30+ year old tree in front of my house in the Central West End. In less than 2 weeks I have collected about 19 cups of sap - cooks down to very little - not even a cup, but well worth doing. I'm going to keep at this and see what I end up with. Thanks so much for doing this seminar!

We cut a huge grapevine down that was wrapped around a very large oak tree. We could only cut it about 2 feet from the ground without damaging the oak. The grapevine trunk was about 6 to 8 inches diameter. It dripped water for a long time. I wonder what the sugar content might have been?
