I bought 2 different 80# brands of pistol crossbows, One says Cobra/ Aligator the sights are great and the trigger is great and it I think is actually a 80 pound Prod I can not move it. (And It shoots great.) The other just says Pistol crossbow 80# I could bend that Prod a little bit so perhaps it's not exactly 80#. It appears well made but the trigger ain't as smooth as the Cobra/Aligator. The one that only say's pistol crossbow was sold on Ebay by Polar Bear Home, I Like them both their both accurate. I made 12 INCH BAMBOO ARROWS i TOOK A DRILL CHART and put a field point in it and drilled it just under the thread size then I drilled it to the field points shoulder size and threaded it in. I wrapped a 1/2 inch with thread and wood glue so It would not crack. Then I glued on 2 vanes and trimmed them to the width of the alligator crossbow. They shoot great out of both pistols their just bamboo tomato stake from a dollar store or bamboo Landscape stakes from Lowes or Home Depot. I heat them over a candle and bend them straight first. I use a drill chart to determine the diamerter,....I used heavy shafts not light shafts and the diameters were from about 21/64 to 19/64,.... even a 30 inches they were heavier than bows needed but their cheap and I use them. I sighted the pistols so the bambo hits where you aim and the bolts that came with them are about an inch higher.

You mention that you can’t load the inert rounds into the chamber because it will jam - why is this? I’ve been trying to Google around to understand but can’t find examples. I assume it’s to do with the barrel itself being blocked as part of deactivation, but that doesn’t exactly explain what would happen to the round/gun if you did try to fully load it. Also, is this restricted to the inert rounds, or would the same happen with the empty rounds?

isn't it dangerous at the moment when the bolt is hit by the string and energy is imparted on the bolt? Isn't there already too much energy on the ignition plate through the tip of the bolt?

You can made the o-ring from natural cordage as well, and lubricatre it with spit, i've tried it. Didn't work. But I don't use charcloth, might have worked with it. I would seal the wood with natural cordage and pitch glue to make it stable and dry during different humidity. Wood pores changes in different humidities, causing the seals to leak or get inefficient. As long as you keep it the same humidity it should work. I've made fire using hand friction method, but it's not reliable for me in humid cold weather. I wanna try to make this method work, since it only requires an ancient mechanical method, which i find quite interesting. If one understand the physics of it, could make a reliable source of fire. Ofc, i use the other methods as well. I don't use bow drills, as they chip my natural cordage and considering it takes a few hours to make cordage, that's not what i want.

you can say that you're going to get into "re enacting" (ww2) etc and get a bac british air soft licence. That enables purchase of one colour (black) pistols. i think deactivated pistols are allowed on bac licence.

I think you would be better off to LOWER the brace height. Anf increase the length of the cocking arms. Raising the brace height reduces the stroke, decreasing the available energy delivered to the projectile.
