Nice build. Perhaps I missed it in a prior video, but what drove your decision to use 40lb propane tanks? Such as versus a larger single tank?

Not legally able to run a propane line from a portable generator to a fixed home propane tank here- although many people do so anyway. Plus if the propane delivery guy sees a such a line to the generator they won't deliver any propane to the tank. Didn't want to attach and re-attach the line to the generator. In an emergency it can still be done. Thanks for watching and God Bless:)

It depends on the load but generally 12 -14 hours on 1 tank. That is why I have the 2 tank setup - when one empties it automatically goes to the other tank. It also makes changing out the empty tank a breeze! Thanks for watching and God Bless:)

Look into getting a small solar battery charger for the battery. Less than $30 for one will make sure the battery is not dead when you need it. Sure you have a pull start just in case, but if it is below freezing, do you really want to be pulling the generator around to get to the pull start, and then working to get it started?
@legaleagleandpaws8198
@legaleagleandpaws8198 Ай бұрын
I was thinking about as another viewer suggested the same thing. The gen comes with a 120v plug in with a barrel end that plugs into the gen. Haven't found a solar charger that has that size barrel to plug in - some have a + and - clamp that goes on the battery to trickle charge it but then I would have to open another part of the gen to get at the battery. I have to call Duramax to see if they have one or can tell me the barrel size. Thanks for watching and God Bless:)

For the generator shack, since I notice the floor is open, rodents may try and nest there - and love to chew on stuff. Fox urine crystals dropped down in the floorboards works wonders at deterrence. And may need the little spring-load clips on the hooks for the doors in case it's windy, wouldn't want it to wiggle the door from some wind, closing it, and causing the CO monitor on the genset to shut it off, since I don't see any passive air-intake vent (the type like on the greenhouse would work great, screened for intrusion w/ some of your metal netting). May also want to get some small screen on the little thru-wall vent in the greenhouse as well.

I know I thought about that - have seen the chipmunks going in and coming out. I put a galvanized 1/4 inch mess on the floor of the greenhouse so noting gets in there. Right now its 17 degrees here (and has gone down to -25 since I have been here) and the poor guys need a place to go to keep warm - they are cute. I am more concerned about the bees making a nest in the summer! The door clips on the doors to keep them open when the gen is running (at least the one by the exhaust on the gen) clips in pretty good to hold it open. Thanks for your insightful input will certainly watch it when it gets windy! Thanks for watching and God Bless:)

Humm....that is a great idea! I think I got a tad carried away - it is truly a brick sh** house. Invariably the power goes out here with the storms or sometimes without any storms. As to covering the one end of the power cord your right. I had a plastic bag with duck tape on it and thanks for reminding me I took it off. Wonder if they have a plug in cover for it? It will run the gen for days depending on what you use inside. Though 4500w solar is getting installed in the spring with a 12000w solar controller/inverter with 24kw worth of batteries so it can run everything inside - on cloudy days the gen can be hooked up to charge the batteries within 4 hours. Not attractive to bears as much as campsites in the park up above. The state park is only a mile away. We are hoping they are done scoping around our area! One reason spindles go bad is not knowing how to grease them, The bearing are sealed just giving 3 pumps of grease does nothing, it takes 70 to 80 pumps before the grease will come our of the top and bottom of the spindle that will force the grease into the berring. Two tips..... Be careful mowing that hill and always wear hearing protection when mowing! Ok a couple more since tips are free. The life of your deck is limited by how much effort you put into keeping the underside free of built up grass. Never store it with wet grass - rust never sleeps. Eventually, you will get noisy spindle shaft bearings. Do not pay for complete new jackshafts. You can rebuild yours by taking the bearing to a supply shop and purchasing replacement bearings. I just had to replace my LA145 with a 48 inch deck because I got lazy about cleaning the deck. I upgraded to a zero turn because my lawn is flat. Wish I had listened to my own tip about hearing protection. A lifetime of not being careful has really left me with severe hearing loss.
