Notre Dame has no purpose being in the playoffs if they can't join a conference and have a somewhat realistic strength of schedule, no reason that Notre Dame could practically walk into the CFP and have every conference hold the door open for them. They still lost to NIU at home this year, don't forget about that. I want to see them in the Big 10 or ACC to actually believe them being somewhat decent.

Too many examples prove that in many years, the 5 to 12th ranked teams could have competed on equal terms with the 1-4 ranked teams. The one that sticks in my mind is the Sugar Bowl in 1986. The 2nd ranked Miami team met the 8th ranked Tennessee team in the Sugar Bowl, when conference champions were locked into Bowl contracts. The Hurricanes were supposed to walk all over UT and be annointed National Champs. Instead, Tennessee dominated Miami. 35-10 if I remember right. You could hear in the announcers voices that they expected Miami to come roaring back any minute. Never came close. Or look at this year. On any given day, most top 20 teams could win against any other top 20 team if they get a couple of breaks.

I think a playoff is the mental retarded way to address a problem that isn't really that complicated. Two teams advance to the title game. It doesn't take a playoff to include two teams. BCS protocol was reasonable. Fair.

Michigan can't use game tape of the opponent anymore, so the game is a ton harder for him.

All the extended playoff did was delay these teams getting eliminated but there are more games so it doesn't matter. For example if it was only 1 vs 2, teams would be eliminated like 4 weeks ago. So 4 weeks ago we would have 22 teams left. Now we'd have like 10ish but only 4 weeks left. Now we have 22 teams left but we have 4 weeks and then 3 weeks of playoffs so 7 weeks left... if anything the new playoffs just make it so the first 3 or so weeks don't matter at all.

March Madness gives us all reason to believe there will be plenty of upsets in football, too.
