Enjoyed your film,seeing the 130's brought back many memories of Blue Marlin fishing.....I have still got some new medium tension downrigger release clips which have a grip pad to prevent any line damage.Made by offshore Tackle,plus I may still have some new Aftco roller trollers which we used mostly for flatline rods to change the angle of lures so they caught the air better and "smoked" . I have used them in rigger mode as well. depends how much drag you have on the clip with the pressure of spreader bars. If you get stuck ping my son Mike at T.A.Outdoors and he will forward to me . Good luck with the Tuna, nice to see something different....I want to see more !!..

Cheers for getting in touch, and thank you 🙏 also for suggesting the release clips by offshore tackle, just checked them out 👍🏼 we've bought some of the Aftco rollers but tbh they are releasing due to the drag, especially in a bit of weather. Fishing weather windows here in Cornwall atm. We've caught some good fish now. New episodes will be upcoming soon. I'd love to catch a Marlin. Have you caught a Bluefin yet ? :) Many thanks 👍🏼 Tom

The minimum size for our license is 30kg or 115cm fork length. My understanding is that a fish that is over the minimum size will have had at least one breeding season. Cheers

Won't be long before the tuna are gone because of over fishing fisherman can not stop themselves from taking far too much just look at the fish stocks that have been diverstated by the EU now admitting that they don't know what the fish stocks are much lower than they thought perhaps even to the point of extinction just look at how difficult it is to catch a mackaral don't see the Shoals on the surface like you did 30years ago

I can't speak for other countries, I can say we have a limited quota of 3 tons for 2024 season. I won't be taking a gram over this quota. We are only using rod and line to bring high-grade fish to market. These fish are incredible, and I hope stocks remain healthy through responsible fishing. Thanks for your comment 👍🏼

That's true. Our licence to catch BFT doesn't allow chumming. I assume this to minimise the risk of catching sharks.

It's hard to say exactly, as values of fish depend on multiple factors. We have a 3t quota total for 2024. We should be alright if we can take most of our quota.

I'm split on this. They are just recovering and an important part of the ecosystem and are major earners for sport angling, but this is selective and fishing is a commercial process and fishers should be able to use the resources around them. I am sure small scale catching like this is good for everyone as long as it is monitored and no licences are given to larger boats.

I’ve been down there this year We had 6 in 5hours up to 94 inches We seen thousands of them out there it was like a breeding pool No exaggeration One pod was thousands of tuna making the sea bubble 400 meters wide We were hooked up instantly every time hence we landed 6 in 5 hours It’s insane and I believe the best fishing in the world The boat we were on landed 174 tuna last year to 950lbs No where else can match these numbers

Nicely done very professional, I was a skipper on a pole boat 8 pole men 8 gaff men & a bait man & fish packed in ice some 30 years ago of South Africa coast exciting times but only caught longfin & yellowfin never ever saw bluefin or big eye. Good luck with your endevour.

Nice job. I am glad to see you installed rod holders on your boat. When you were fishing for other species I would always cringe when a rod leaning on rail would get knocked over.

The Giant Bluefin in the 70s 80s were abundant of the New Jersey coast. The quota given to us was for whole Mid Atlantic region of Eastern seaboard. Sometimes the quota was filled before fish showed up in local waters.

From what I personally see on the eastern seaboard of the United States Bluefin have been on the decline since the 1970s. The Japanese love of sushi sashimi ect has had a huge impact

Yes, that’s the problem British fishermen will be regulated, but as fish travel to foreign waters other countries will kick the ass out fish stocks until they become so depleted no one will benefit .

This depends on multiple factors. They are valuable, but certainly not as much as everyone would probably believe. The prices vary on a daily basis tbh. If you'd like to see market prices, check out Newlyn Market prices online 👍🏼 it gives you an idea of what fish sell for, including BFT. Cheers

Thanks for your opinion 👍🏼 it's very heavily regulated with a limited quota. With each fish caught registered. Guess this helps prevent illegal catching/selling of these amazing fish. Management of the stock through responsible fishing. But that's my opinion, I guess. A fish like these represents a way of keeping a small low impact line fishing vessel such as mine afloat. It is possibly a lot better to have this style of managed sustainable fishing going on than deep sea pair trawlers hoovering up entire stocks in a matter of days.

Im in my sixties. I have worked as a lobsterman and a siene boat for baitfish. We once caught a seven foot tuna in the seine net at the end of a runway at Bostons Logan airport. The water was only 6 foot deep. We released the fish by law. Today I work in a boat yard in Massachusetts. The Forager has character. You have skills and some grit. Reeling in bluefin tuna is not like catching a six of mackerel. With that said I would not bet against you, good luck.

@@F20_forager yea somthing like 80 odd tonnes thats including "resurch" cut , ive heard on grape vine they quite fond of a bass wiggling on the line 😜im down by isle of white bud give it a few years and fingers cross were have a good market, quota and licensing in place , i wish you every success just be safe the fish isnt worth your life bud .... peach of a little boat you got there handy tool

You should not be loosing reel line to the wreck ! 50 lbs reel line and 30lbs weak link before the rubbing leader.

i was down cornwall 2 weeks ago, 9 hour coach trip, never again, went on a 2 hour mackerel trip from newquey 11 anglers 5 fish and i had 2 of um, bloody hard work
