This takes me back to my first time in Japan - I had never even heard about Kanazawa - my friend recommended I go and it feels like a dream now. It was sweltering when I went in July

Gloomy weather can be tough when youre doing solo travel - I did southern Kyushu last year, it was sweltering despite being November, I spent 6 weeks with no plan just bouncing round, it was a fun/hectic story. By the time I got to Oita the weather was pretty bad so I dont remember Oita much haha. Being refuged at a bus stop for an hour isnt fun but can still make for fond memories - I had the same when I was stuck in Tohoku in the rain near Mt Haguro, but it's a nice memory now. Since you'll be in Tohoku Spend the day hiking Mt Haguro - there's a nice tea house towards the top with a great view of the Shonai plane, then stay the night in Tsuruoka, take things slower since you have the time and if you know any japanese see if you call learn some Zuzu-ben/tohoku dialect, people up there are super friendly. I was still a student back then so I did overnight buses, which helped with that feeling of always needing to be on the move when you do Japan solo (but was also poorly planned and unnecessarily uncomfortable lol - I used the JBL pass which wasnt well known and not as advantagous as it used to be - you used to be able to take the luxury night bus as much as you liked). Ive done solo across japan 5 times now. 3 weeks is a good amount of time in the north. Thanks for sharing

Hi junaied2136, Thanks for your comments and advice! Appreciate it! I'm pleasantly surprised with your alike experience, I feel like …… I'm not alone😂. Yeah, you're right, no matter good or bad days, they still compiled in my memory, I cherish every single day I have.

I visited Nagasaki for 2 days in Nov 2024, it was sweltering too! Plus, I was sick after soaking in the pouring rain in Itoshima, luckily, I recovered after a big sleep😅.

I traveled to Japan very often when I was young. But one day, I noticed I literally didn't know much about Japan, so I started my "Travel All Around Nippon" plan this year, hopefully I can visit every single prefecture in Japan before I'm broke😂.

@@IamEddieWoods I keep going back to travel solo but it gets harder to do each time since Japan is a little far. Im at the point I have to have a good reason to go back since I'd ask myself 'why am I here again?'. When I did my 6 week trip I planned for about 3 days and would make up new plans day by day. It was super spontaneous but also quietly stressful since you're always planning things. There's a balance when your solo between planning things properly and not ruining the spontaneity of discovering things. I kept busy by writing a travel newsletter to friends - you'd be amazed how much you can forget, like how you really felt on rainy days. Guesthouses in Japan can be great too especially if you want to practice Japanese. There's a book called top 100 japanese guesthouses broken down by preferecture. I watched a lot of Japanology from NHK too when I was a student - i'd recommend. But if you really want to visit all the different prefectures - learn some japanese if youve not already, even if its basic, it keeps you sane whilst solo. If you ever want to discuss solo japan trip planning let me know - it's one of those topics that I still find exciting (sometimes more than actually going on the trips)

@junaied2136 Cool! Where are you from? My flight to Haneda is around 10hrs, it probably takes longer if you're from North America. Yes, planning is somewhat stressful, but I still enjoy doing it because it's included in the package and it's free😂! I learned Japanese via apps only, I can say simple sentences, those needed when traveling but not good enough in making friends. I'll take your advice looking for a guesthouse next round. BTW Happy New Coming Year 🎉
