Hey I know this is off-topic but I first saw your old videos about mouse acceleration in Quake 3. (I was particularly fascinated by your low sensi high accel video) Because of your video I bought Quake 3, setup CPMA, and figured out how to set up your free for all arena gamemode by using the config from one of your old comments. Anyways it was basically the exact gamemode I always wanted in Quake and I have been loving it! I even figured how to replicate the mode in Quake Live as well. Just wanted to say thanks and good luck on your game development! I will definitely be following along with your projects!

What's on your wrist and arm? Did you make it yourself?
@Simone_jw Жыл бұрын
It's a video of incredible arm movements...Watching this makes me feel how sensitive I am. What do you think about using mouse acceleration on cue live? I am dpi 800, sensori 2, accel 0.09. They use it a lot among QL pro's, but it's usually inconsistent, and it's not good for muscle memory. (If you don't play games for a while, it seems to take a long time to adjust.)
@SakariMover Жыл бұрын
Accel is good, but it takes effort to remain consistent. Most important thing is to have the sensitivity cap in the acceleration so that your flicks are always the same sensitivity as long as you flick past a certain speed. I haven't used accel in years now, because I no longer play Quake. The thing in my arm is a "gaming sleeve" I made myself. It's a smooth cloth, similar to silk, which just slides really well against my mousepad.
@Simone_jw Жыл бұрын
@@SakariMover Thank you. You don't do Quake anymore. ^^ Is it correct that the sensitivity cap console command is /cl_mouseSensCap ?? I don't think it's necessary, but can you tell me how high it gets when I don't have a cap on it?
@SakariMover Жыл бұрын
@@Simone_jw I haven't used the acceleration in the Quake engine, I only used the Povohat acceleration driver. But in that, the acceleration scales the sensitivity higher as long as you move the mouse faster. That's why the cap is useful, so that you can just find a flick speed that you will usually go over and set the cap so that every flick is with the same sensitivity, that way your flicks will be much more consistent than without a cap.
@Simone_jw Жыл бұрын
@@SakariMover Thank you. I have an additional inquiry. 1. When you also used acceleration, did you set up the cap for stable flick shots? 1. Why use Povohat' acceleration, instead of the acceleration of the Quake engine, to apply the same to other games? 2. Please introduce Povohat. (windows 10~) 3. You used acceleration, and I'm curious about the mouse dpi, sensori, and acceleration sensitivity that you used in Quake.
@SakariMover Жыл бұрын
@@Simone_jw 1. Yes, I used a sensitivity cap for flick shots. It makes them much better. 2. I used Povohat's accel driver because I mainly used accel in Battlefield 3, but wanted to use it in other games with the same settings. 3. I don't remember my settings completely, but I used Logitech G100S and the Ninox Aurora mouse, usually 400-800 DPI. Acceleration and sensitivity settings usually so that base sensitivity was very low, something like 60-100 cm / 360° and then accel made it to about 25-40 cm / 360°.

It was in 2013 july/august when i was addicted to play with Cube World, i remember this video was amazed me. I was 15 years old at the time, we were going to my grandma who was living in a small village in Hungary and there was no internet at the time, so i've downloaded this video to being able to see some Cube World content. I was at my grandparents for 1 week and i've watched this video like 100 times, the music, the hang gliding, it's still close to perfection. Thanks for this video dude, i feel sad i didn't comment here in 2013, also hearthbreaking to see Cube Wolrd lost it's magic, i wish Wollay create a new update for the game and make the hang gliding fun just one more time.

For the smoothing algorithm? Sure. pastebin.com/CxzRpVxV <- that's the script that's controlling the laser. The laser itself is a separate object that is not a child of the controller but just another gameobject that I'm moving with the script based on the position and orientation of the controller. The parts of the script that do the moving are MoveLine() and ChangeFollowTightness(). Definitely not optimal, just a quick and dirty prototype at the moment. I plan to clean it up at some point. My hope is that something similar could be added to SteamVR as an accessibility feature for people with shaky hands or just someone who wants a steadier controller.

Why not QW or AG ? They're kinda closer to the origins of the movement mechanics that you love so much ;)
@SakariMover Жыл бұрын
QW and AG are Quake 1 mechanics, which I love. CPMA adds to them the smoothness of Quake 3 mechanics. Stepup, forward+strafe style air acceleration which gives you acceleration at the expense of steering, but you can still use QW style for max steering but less acceleration. And I feel like double jump combined with ramp jump are an extremely rewarding style of movement if the maps are designed correctly. Overall I feel like it's a more complete system of movement compared to QW/AG. Not saying it IS better, but for me it always felt better. QW/AG lack the feeling of inertia and weight of the character, you can really easily lose all your momentum if you make a tiny mistake. CPMA is more forgiving and thus feels smoother.
@LindenAshbyMK Жыл бұрын
@@SakariMover Interesting, I had no idea CPMA has double jump... I thought Q2 was the only one to have it.

I don't get it, have pointers been a problem?
@SakariMover2 жыл бұрын
Most pointers in VR apps, even just the standard pointer in SteamVR, do not have any smoothing. Meaning they are a raw representation of your controller orientation. This means that if your hand shakes, it might be extremely difficult to click buttons reliably. Sure, some applications have added smoothing, but they are a minority. A controller smoothing option like this should be a standard accessibility feature in all VR applications. I'm experimenting on really fine tuning a pointer so that it is super quick, easy, precise and reliable.
