Maserati unreliable,they break and cost a fortune to repair
@Rich_Runs_Cars2 сағат бұрын
I have to admit I'm not hugely knowledgeable about Maseratis, but I've heard early years of that Quattraporte generation had quite a few issues, as did the 3200GT. I was under the impression the 4200GT was a bit better though...

I was skeptical about the ACC, so I was seriously surprised how well it works. The only objection from me would be it could accelerate more gently when the space in front of the car is freed.
@Rich_Runs_Cars5 сағат бұрын
Exactly the same here - I don't usually use these systems in other cars to be honest, but given the age of it in the X350, it's pretty impressive. I agree about the more gentle acceleration - I find these systems in general struggle to recreate the smooth acceleration/deceleration that I prefer on motorway journeys. They generally don't ease off the accelerator as early or smoothly either.

@Rich_Runs_Cars7 сағат бұрын
Thanks for watching! I owned a 3.0 X-Type - quite a few years ago now and I can't recall the exact mpg, but remember it being pretty similar to my Super V8. Are you in the UK or US, as the mpg is different?! 24mpg US = 29mpg UK. Obviously the mpg I quoted was only for long journeys, but other owners report similar on the forums. Town driving will see low to mid 20s at best but I don't do that in mine.

Great video and very interesting to hear your view of the X350 vs the competitors of the era. In some ways I think these cars are now more valuable because of Jaguar's suicide last year. There are a few X350s floating about where I live and each time I see one I think 'ooooooh nice'. One of these days..

Great video! I love the XJ background discussion at the start - that's a good reference. I never realized the XJ had been through so many iterations. My neighbors had an XJ Vanden Plas, and they behaved like they were 'better" than the rest of us! The objective comparisons with the other cars was also very informative. It's funny that the Lexus' 290 HP would be the underpowered one of the group! Also, i can't believe you're so comfortably driving while you're making the video! I must confess that after the video, I looked up XJ's for sale, and there's quite a number of good samples from the early 2000's. Hmmmm. Can i charge this on my new credit card!?
@Rich_Runs_CarsКүн бұрын
Thanks very much 🙏 I always see the XJ almost as a British institution, as I remember the days when it seemed all celebrities/VIPs/ politicians used them! I think the US also has a soft spot for them, so not surprised there are quite a few for sale. The VP is interesting, as the name was dropped for the top models in the UK in the 1980s, I think, but lived on in the US.

Thanks for the great review. You ticked all the main boxes, and I can see why a clean Ex-Japan car would appeal. The main downsides to your car are its age and spec. The later cars had many improvements and added features. Long wheelbase cars really do have serious legroom, and usually feature the separate rear aircon system. Later cars also got the double glazed windows. For 2008 and 2009, X358 cars also have the option of climate (heated and cooled) front seats. I've had my 2008 Ex-Japan LWB Super V8 for about five years, and it doesn't (thankfully) have a leaper.
@Rich_Runs_CarsКүн бұрын
Thanks for watching, and for the feedback 👍 Yes, totally agree - the later cars were significantly improved, with better spec. Obviously mine is very early, but I still find it very impressive for the year. My previous XJ Super X350 (also 2003 and a Jap import), was actually a LWB - I must have forgotten how much leg room it had, sorry about that!

Hi David, hope you're well. I don't mind 🙂 yes, overall I make a net profit when accounting for all costs I incur, but I win some and lose some as you can imagine. I only buy cars that I actually really want to own, or are a bit different/interesting. And only if I think I can make a four figure sum when I sell. It doesn't always work out like that, but hopefully it means I don't lose too much money either 😂 but even if it's cost neutral or costs a bit for me to own cars I enjoy for a year or so, I'm pretty happy. It's a way of owning cars without it costing too much, hopefully... But of course it probably doesn't work so well with newer cars due to depreciation. Some exceptions...my daily cars, E63, GBS, Noble, I expected to lose money. I was thinking about doing a video next year about some of my experiences good and bad!
