For those who are worried about wider loom widths if you have a smaller waist, you don't need to reduce the maximum loom width (13"-14" per panel). Instead, you can create deeper 'valleys' on the pleats while folding it until the total length meets half of your waist length. Plus, it creates a prettier swoosh on it if you twirl 😊

could I use 4mm for the base? or like stack two 4mm on top of eachother to make an 8mm?
@AdonisCosplay2 ай бұрын
I would suggest stacking it. With this one you're going to want a bit more thickness, but that's not to say 4mm couldn't work. Personal preference.

By far one of the most fluent and easy-to-follow tutorials on prop sword making I've seen, thank you! Was in the process of making my own foam sword for a cosplay, however it did not go as planned in the slightest. I used some 1/2 inch EVA puzzle/workout foam mats that I got for cheap and not only was it impossible to cut, but shaping it was a nightmare and I ultimately scrapped the entire thing. Was a real bummer as I was already many hours of time deep into the project. The sword I tried making had an exact shape and form as Inuyasha's Tessaiga, except on a 3-4 foot scale ratio as it was not as big as the one you made. I'm not a quitter and I really want to try again but I'm the worst when it comes to getting the right materials. Would it be alright to ask which foam in particular you used in this project and where you bought it from? (Cost friendly alternatives would also work, as college doesn't pay itself). And since I'm making essentially a smaller scale of this build, would I need a smaller PVC pipe size, etc 1/2inch? Thank you again for the video, I've watched a handful of "Inuyasha Tessaiga Build" videos and yours by far stood out to me the most. Hope you have an amazing day, cheers!
@AdonisCosplay5 ай бұрын
Thank you so much! I appreciate the kind words. I’ve definitely scrapped a handful of projects in my day so I feel you there. Regarding the type of foam, its insulation board. You can get it at most hardware stores (I get mine from Lowe’s and Home Depot). The brand doesn’t matter. A large sheet is about $20 so you shouldn’t have any issues fitting your smaller sword onto one piece of foam. The pvc thickness will depend on how thick of foam board you buy and how thick you want your sword to be. If you’re using 1 1/2 inch foam board you can pretty do anything under 3” for the pvc. But the smaller you go the more bendy the handle is which can be undesirable. Hopefully that helps! Let me know if you have any other questions

Hey!! this video is amazing!! I'm planning an inuyasha cosplay, but I've never worked with foam before, just small wood projects (the con I'm going to doesn't allow heavy wooden props, and you can imagine how heavy a wooden tetsusaiga might get). I was looking for something lighter, so if it’s not too much trouble, I have some questions that I’m curious about! But please don’t feel pressured to answer How does wet sanding work? Should it be done after every coat of added Mod Podge? What happens if I were to skip the Plasti Dip? And is there a specific amount of time you should wait between applying each coat? Is there a substitute for it? Any specific insulation board recommendations? (Don’t live in the US so we only have Home Depot, do you know if they sell good ones?)
@AdonisCosplay6 ай бұрын
Hey there, thanks for all your questions! First of all, a wooden tessaiga probably isn't a good idea lol. To answer your questions. 1. Wet sanding is taking a really high grit sandpaper (probably 600+ grit) and using water to get surfaces suepr smooth. It should be done after each coat of mod podge since we're trying to avoid having brush lines. The mod podge is pretty thin so applying it with a brush will show lines. 2. skipping plastidip is ok, but it's just an added layer to strengthen and smooth out the surface. usually wait about 30 mintues between coats. flexipaint is an alternative. 3. no specific insullation board recommendations. There used to be a brand called pink panther which was good, but honestly any insullation foam should do. If you have a home depot, they will definitely have something. Hopefully that answers your questions!
