What is the story why they were discontinued ? I assume all of these guys marched in Drum Corps along the way. Do any of them still play for Disney ?

Oh interesting - the drill here is different than I’ve seen in other performances! Here it seems more Blast-y (even though Blast was happening a teaching its popularity concurrently).

Our JC instructor expected us trombones to play this with slide trombones. None of us could yet he humiliated us anyway and insisted we play La Fiesta at a concert. He was very much like the instructor in the film Whiplash. 😠 Probably could have cut it with valve trombones. I know I could have and I think the Ferguson band used them too

How in the heck can people just walk by this performance??? Those people must be dead inside! I’d love to see what Corps each of these guys played with. Back when a Corps was a Drum & Bugle Corps and played Bugles! AMAZING!

John Castleman is such an underappreciated gem of the trumpet world. That guy contributed absolute TOP TIER musicianship to this group. The best jazz solos ever played on a G bugle, and monstrous lead chops. In my opinion, he might be the most important piece of the character of this group. He absolutely elevated the music this group played FAR above its original conception.

A G-bugle horn line just has a panache and flair (not to mention POWER) which cannot be matched by all-key instrumentation ...

Except Future Corps is 1,000 times better than BLAST! ever was. I saw BLAST! 3 times and with each time I saw them, they got more watered down. I saw Future Corps many times. NOT watered down!

The rolling drum kits came later, I guess. Poor guy carrying the triple bass drums, now that was monstrous.

Not sure exactly when it was, but based on videos posted, somewhere around 1997. Never cared for the rolling racks. Didn't matter if it was the 5 bass or the 6 bass configuration, they just didn't project as well.

I noticed that they looked like floor toms and didn’t have the thick wooden hoops. I used to instruct the perc in a small college brass and perc group and we built a set using real basses. So heavy! The triple basses were great but I loved seeing the racks too. Couldn’t decide which I liked more.
@kmabru
@kmabru Жыл бұрын
The earlier setup was probably toms set up as bass drums. There was a later version of the stack that had the wood hoops and was most likely actual bass drums. As for the racks, I didn't care for them. It was cool that they had 6 basses set up (though at times it was 5). However, I felt they didn't project like the stacked triples.

I wonder? Did they express to people that they were former marching members of a drum corps, and try to encourage people to get involved in drum corps and attend some shows?
