My friends and I used to go to Disneyland in Cali JUST to watch Future Corps and the great Mike Collins (BD 86 soprano soloist). Really miss those days.

John Castleman is such an underappreciated gem of the trumpet world. That guy contributed absolute TOP TIER musicianship to this group. The best jazz solos ever played on a G bugle, and monstrous lead chops. In my opinion, he might be the most important piece of the character of this group. He absolutely elevated the music this group played FAR above its original conception.

Every time I hear the trumpet trio solo I either smile really big or shake my head in disbelief, sometimes both. They were the best band I've ever seen live, hands down.

An often overlooked ensemble. Had the opportunity to audition with these guys. If you went to Disneyworld in the early 90s you probably saw these guys.

I went on a trip with family back then (94 or so) and watched them like a total DCI geek. Wearing my Marauders shirt and a VK hat, based on photos from the trip.

A shout out to a great band instructor: Greg Martian from lake Howell hs in winter Park FL. Most of these aragements came directly from the 1982 to 1986 lake Howell silver regiment. This music was all inspired from DRUM corps international and in particular the blue devils. I played opposite to the lead trumpet player... Exact opposite.. better to be the worst player in the best band then to be the best player in the worst band.

Our JC instructor expected us trombones to play this with slide trombones. None of us could yet he humiliated us anyway and insisted we play La Fiesta at a concert. He was very much like the instructor in the film Whiplash. 😠 Probably could have cut it with valve trombones. I know I could have and I think the Ferguson band used them too

@michaeltaylor84359 жыл бұрын
Back in '94 I got a chance to speak w/ them and their members came from all over the place. At the time there sop players were from BD, Mauraders, and Star. I remember that the contra players were from Suncoast and Cav's if I recall. I miss that they aren't there anymore. Would love for my kids to get a chance see them. I saw them perform this song in person and it was AMAZING!!

Probably the Marauders from Longview, WA, who had climbed the ranks of DCI's associate level in the late 80s.

What is wrong with this crowd????? Am I missing something? Is there a noise reduction on the recorder or something? I remember practically screaming and nearly doing back flips in the front row at right about mark 3:50 of this recording, and getting people around me to do the same. LAME!
@luxetlex6 жыл бұрын
This is blasphemy, but the lead trumpet (bugle) could give Maynard a run for his money! Maybe not on pure range, but everything he plays is crisp and he nails the partials, flips, and lip trills. Very impressed!
