Perfect enough for a dirt bike, bud. What were you expecting from a 5 minute video with scotch brite and wd40? Maybe think for a second next time before you post a negative comment.

@projectdirtbikes no, but you said perfect mirror finish then said scuffs. Clearly it isn't a perfect mirror finish. If you think that's perfect mirror finish well then...

Hmm can I use the same technique having painted aluminium or should I sand it before? Hmm, how should I do this? 😃 Looks like miracle way tho haha. THANK U
@projectdirtbikes

So it will only work on smooth bare aluminum. As long as the aluminum surface is smooth under the paint, it should work after stripping the paint off. Several of people have commented that they polished their bicycle frames and pistol slides with this method after stripping the paint. Good luck and if you have any other questions just ask!

after the high polish finish is attained, how would you clean it?
@projectdirtbikes
@projectdirtbikes 16 күн бұрын
Just like normal with soap and water and a microfiber, but if you’d like to keep the mirror finish without having to repolish it every so often, you can put SharkHide on it. It’s a special kind of clearcoat that doesn’t chip off of aluminum like normal stuff does. I’ve had pretty good luck with that stuff the last few years.

Any tips on cleaning rusty dirtbike headers?
@projectdirtbikes
@projectdirtbikes 29 күн бұрын
Sandblasting is the best and easiest way, but when I don’t have access to a sandblaster, I like to use wire wheels on a grinder and a drill. Then I wipe it down with some solvent and apply 3-4 thin coats of high heat matte black spray paint. I like rustoleum the most. Be careful with the wire wheel on the grinder, as it’ll eat the base metal if you aren’t careful.
@Whois85
@Whois85 29 күн бұрын
@ just trying to clean the headers not paint them
@projectdirtbikes
@projectdirtbikes 28 күн бұрын
They’ll rust again right away if you don’t paint them. You could get a high temp clearcoat if you want a bare steel look. Otherwise you’ll have to clean them up over and over again

The picks I'm using are made by Tekton. They are made in the US, hold up great to daily abuse, have a lifetime warranty, and are very reasonably priced. I'm not sponsored by or affiliated with Tekton, I just wanted to share where to get some great tools. 👍

Old aluminum camera lenses can get real dead looking, pick up a yellow tinge, and need a real clean and polish. hose old aluminum Carl Zeiss and Exacta lenses are good examples. I'll be playing with your method and others, as I certainly don't want any goop on the glass or getting inside the lens I'm getting. I see a dremel in the future. These lenses have lettering on them to consider too, but at least it's usually pressed into the metal, not painted on a flat surface. They can also have a hill and groove focus dial, where the hills have fine grooves in them to clean. These old aluminum lenses also go yellow, as I mentioned, which I'm not sure is because of lacquer or handling...or....

Honestly, the idea was starting to grow on me to leave it rough, but I bought it to restore it. I'll definitely be buying another ratty muscle car in the future to enjoy as is, but as far as this one goes, I already have it around 90% torn down so there's no going back! I found a few areas of structural rust that I wouldn't have found if I hadn't torn it down, so it's probably for the better. Thanks for the comment

@@jimwilson774 That's awesome! FYI, theres a facebook page called Lost Muscle Cars where people make a post about their old car; where/when they sold it, who bought it, what the plate/vin was, etc. Its a pretty popular page, so once and a while someone has a lead on the car at hand and they're able to track it down. It might be worth a shot if you're wanting your old car back! I'm hoping to track down my Great Grandma's 67 impala someday.
