are the hexes the same size as the battletech bases? just curious.

ASL absolutely sucks. It's not a game, it's a rule memorizing exercise. You spend all your life memorizng rules and then refreshing your memory about those rules. You're not replaying history , you're playing a fiddly turn based game with carboard toy soldiers. If you like ASL you're a moron!

GHQ miniatures are 1/285 most 6mm miniatures are 1/300. They are much better quality than their smaller cousins. Its worth noting if you have the models, rules sets like Fist Full of Tows 3 are infinately more playable than ASL.

Great video, but the chances of bagging those results are slim. Assuming a 7 on all rolls (the most likely outcome) then on a 4 FP -2 FFMO/FFNAM the results are 1MC, which statistically, those 6-2-8s would pass even without the Human Wave bonus. If the fire is not spread, then it becomes 8 FP on H4 and G5, where a 5 final result = 2 MC. Still, statistically the Russkies would pass, they're immune to Pin, but the chances are better. The squad + LMG in F5 is well advised to spray, though, as that's the only way to get the -3 DRM on both hexes, still earning a 2MC on both hexes if they roll 7s. I wish I'd done advanced statistics at school so I could work out whether a single 8FP attack is more beneficial than 2 4FP attacks, though! Thanks for sharing this, Dave.

Just be like me and roll 6, 6 when it matters most. LOL That said, the rule of 7 is a great one to ask before rolling: "what happens if I roll 7?"

In a Slide Rule Training Course, the Mathematical Method that was taught to accurately keep track of the decimal point was to convert the numbers into their scientific notation. This was especially important for the calculation of very large numbers or very small numbers. For example, 5,500 x 3,500 = 19,250,000. This is because (5.5 x 10^3) x (3.5 x 10^3) = 19.25 x 10^6 = 19,250,000. Similarly 0.055 x 0.035 = 0.001925. This is because (5.5 x 10^-2) x (3.5 x 10^-2) = 19.25 x 10^-4 = 0.001925.

Do you know of any guide to converting SK scenarios to full ASL?
@DavidGarvinTechnophile Жыл бұрын
Hi There are no guides to convert the scenarios to full ASL; however, there are many ASL Scenarios that have been made into ASL SK scenarios. As one example, "Zon with the Wind" can be seen in "88s at Zon". That said, to make them "full rules ASL", simply add a SAN and use the same victory conditions. For SAN values, a level of 3 for defender and 2 for attacker are pretty good for trial and error. An increase of 2 for both sides would be appropriate for a city fight where both sides have been in a city for a while, so 5 for defender and 4 for attacker.

They are identical. Using VASSAL (from www.vassalengine.org), you can download everything you need to play. It just provides a medium for you to play. So, there is no AI, this just gives you a virtual board upon which to play.

I am considering purchasing “Squad Leader” and am using your videos and others on KZbin as a way of familiarizing myself with the game. But, in a basic question, does Squad Leader offer a solitaire play format?
@DavidGarvinTechnophile Жыл бұрын
Hi. Short answer is "no". Longer answer is "no, but..." In Advanced Squad Leader, there is Solitaire ASL ("SASL"). That said, there is no need to play solo with VASSAL and VSQL. These are free ware programs used by thousands of players around the world. Google search for "VASSAL Engine" and you will be amazed.
