As a huge fan of the Cosmere who has only played DnD, it is great to hear hopeful thoughts from someone who knows a lot about TTRPGs, but little about the Stormlight Archive. Also, the books are amazing, but are quite the commitment. The Stormlight Archive alone, post-Dec. 6th, when book 5 comes out, will be 2,000,000+ words, over 6,000 pages, and they will be but 5 of over thirty works.

Thanks for covering this. A lot of other creators covering it have read all the books and are only doing spiiler reviews. Which is fine, but I'm like you and haven’t read much so a lore free review is nice!

First thing's first; loved the video and it's so nice to see positivity. I actually stopped watching videos about MCDM RPG/Draw Steel for a while because it seemed that a lot of the people making them either wanted it to be something it's not, or were maybe not discussing it in good faith. But as I say, it's so nice to see someone talk about this game in such a positive light, and to know that the experience I've had playing it is something other people have experienced too! I've followed MCDM for a good few years now and was keeping up to date with the RPG because I liked their 5e content, but I wasn't 100% convinced that I'd enjoy it. Ended up looking at the playtest and decided to run it for my siblings who are fairly new to TTRPGs. They both made characters with my help (dwarf tactician and wode elf shadow) and I made a memonek conduit to join them, mostly just to provide an extra body and some healing. Took probably 2-3 turns, but once we got the gist of it, we had a great time. We all had cool things we could do, the tactician made great use of their abilities to help us reposition and prioritise targets, the shadow was zipping around the battlefield and sniping enemies from afar, and the signature ability I chose for my conduit thinking it wouldn't be all that great ended up being a huge help against minions. We didn't quite finish Act 1, but we had an absolute blast and are looking forward to continuing. Of course there's plenty of stuff we haven't tried yet (we didn't get to negotiation so far for example) and projects & research is something that hasn't been released yet, but it was great just to have that confirmation that combat was so much fun. Because if we didn't enjoy combat, then there's no real reason to continue. But as I say, we loved it. I'll agree with your friend's feedback about being on the Director's side. I completely lost track of how VP worked and it resulted in a couple of fights being a bit too easy for the heroes. However, the backer test packet that came out like, yesterday, has already made adjustments to how VP works, and I think it'll be far easier to keep track of going forward. I really can't wait to play more, and I've already started work on moving my planned 5e game with my siblings over to DS, including most of today having been spent making DS versions of monsters from Flee, Mortals! Can't wait for the next playtest packet, and as someone who made a character who is very much research/crafting based, I'm really looking forward to seeing how that system works!

The dynamic of the group felt off in this video. Seems like the idea of a preacher being in the game was looked at as negative by the rest of the group. Just felt like a very off episode. I cant put my finger on it, and I could be wrong. But it just felt like the dynamic of having a religious/spiritual person in the party was looked down upon. Don't get me wrong, that could have very well been the dynamic of the characters themselves, but this kinda felt semi personal.

Draw Steel is a pretty cool name. Way better than Daggerheart which is pretty cringe. Sounds like this has better core mechanics than 5e, but also sounds like it's keeping some of the shitty 5e stuff too.

@TeganJGaming I think the most clever thing they have done was to make some of the surface elements very familiar to D&D players, even of the engine under the hood is working differently.

I was reluctant to get into this system at first because I didn't want to be disappointed. But now that it's been out a year and I've seen exciting game play, I'm in! I picked up this expansion with the core rule book recently and looking forward to running it with my group, or hopefully playing in it some day. I was also a little let down by the inability to have a PDF copy to share with my group, but will make due somehow. I am amped about this expansion and all the great content they put into it!

I am so excited for this rpg release. I cannot wait to play as a mistborn or a radiant. Brandon’s worlds are so interesting that I would love to just be in any setting he created. I’m also intrigued to see where the game expands to in the future as White Sand and Warbreaker could both provide exciting settings and story opportunities.

Aabria Iyengar uses GM scenes very well, just little glimpses of events happening elsewhere. It makes it more dramatically interesting, and feels very movie-like. Of course, she also uses the "camera pulls out and scene changes" imagery to transition. And imo it doesn't break immersion at all; it seems to draw the players in even more in the right place and time.

Started ADnD with 79 and even that system needed Arduin and Emperor of the Pedal Throne (and Dragon mag mods) to make it enjoyable. Other than that, only played 3.5 so I guess I’m not a huge DnD fan in the slightest and even Pathfinder is crazy daunting. I have great expectations for this one. I also backed DC20, Nimble and Knave2E which my group just played. Reminded me of original Boothill where you had a character in under 10minutes and already playing.
