First thing's first; loved the video and it's so nice to see positivity. I actually stopped watching videos about MCDM RPG/Draw Steel for a while because it seemed that a lot of the people making them either wanted it to be something it's not, or were maybe not discussing it in good faith. But as I say, it's so nice to see someone talk about this game in such a positive light, and to know that the experience I've had playing it is something other people have experienced too! I've followed MCDM for a good few years now and was keeping up to date with the RPG because I liked their 5e content, but I wasn't 100% convinced that I'd enjoy it. Ended up looking at the playtest and decided to run it for my siblings who are fairly new to TTRPGs. They both made characters with my help (dwarf tactician and wode elf shadow) and I made a memonek conduit to join them, mostly just to provide an extra body and some healing. Took probably 2-3 turns, but once we got the gist of it, we had a great time. We all had cool things we could do, the tactician made great use of their abilities to help us reposition and prioritise targets, the shadow was zipping around the battlefield and sniping enemies from afar, and the signature ability I chose for my conduit thinking it wouldn't be all that great ended up being a huge help against minions. We didn't quite finish Act 1, but we had an absolute blast and are looking forward to continuing. Of course there's plenty of stuff we haven't tried yet (we didn't get to negotiation so far for example) and projects & research is something that hasn't been released yet, but it was great just to have that confirmation that combat was so much fun. Because if we didn't enjoy combat, then there's no real reason to continue. But as I say, we loved it. I'll agree with your friend's feedback about being on the Director's side. I completely lost track of how VP worked and it resulted in a couple of fights being a bit too easy for the heroes. However, the backer test packet that came out like, yesterday, has already made adjustments to how VP works, and I think it'll be far easier to keep track of going forward. I really can't wait to play more, and I've already started work on moving my planned 5e game with my siblings over to DS, including most of today having been spent making DS versions of monsters from Flee, Mortals! Can't wait for the next playtest packet, and as someone who made a character who is very much research/crafting based, I'm really looking forward to seeing how that system works!

Draw Steel is looking to be my favorite of the many new tactical fantasy games coming out soon, though Daggerheart is a close second.

I'm really excited for it especially after this playtest

Nice to hear good things about this one. I got in on the KS for the pledge manager, but decided against even the PDF. I've got too many to use already, and tactical/grid games aren't a favourite.

Yeah definitely worth checking out when it launches

Draw Steel is a pretty cool name. Way better than Daggerheart which is pretty cringe. Sounds like this has better core mechanics than 5e, but also sounds like it's keeping some of the shitty 5e stuff too.

I'm surprised to see that, what core mechanics do you think are carrying over from 5e?
