Any suggestions for a pour over with this coffee?
@SteelyCao20 күн бұрын
My experiment at home using filtered tap water: 20g coffee to 320g water, 94c, 1 bloom 3 pours. Total brew time is around 4:30-5 mins. (yes very slow.) If it's running fast and tastes dry and bitter, double brew it, which means, pouring the coffee liquid over the coffee grounds again. You'll get a smooth and sweet coffee.

@roguewavecoffeeco19 күн бұрын
Steely have good suggestion. If you do use lower ppm water and not Edmonton filter tap water, you can bring down the brew time. If you are using 20g, you could do 340g water. Big bloom 70g, then water to 200g, and then water to 340g. Brew time around 3min. Hope this helps. Will be a bit more vibrant side of cup.

This was really helpful. I am struggling with a natural coffee from Brazil using a V60 pourover. The tasting notes describe chocolate, almond, cream and plum. I am only tasting black tea. It is definitely a clean cup.. Using 15 grams of coffee, 90c temp, a 2 pour with a 80 gram bloom to 225 gram(15:1). I have been adjusting grind size going from courser to finer. Med-fine seems better. Your thoughts? Thanks.
@roguewavecoffeeco19 күн бұрын
hi! I think you need to extract a bit more but not grind too fine. Maybe you can reduce your bloom to around 45-60g, and then do 2 pours. If you find there are lots of black tea still, you can split the pours into 3 pours after the bloom. Hope this helps.

This thing of tightening it until it is "kinda tight" and then know it's calibrated, is just a sucky thing about these grinders. How tight is too tight? When the spindle or crank kinda stops moving? You could be miles off from a previous calibration and effectively lose all your settings. There has to be a better way
@roguewavecoffeecoАй бұрын
Unfortunately, calibrating the butt as been something like this for the longest time. Just off the burr touch, just touching, etc even with the big grinder like the EK43. I hope there is a better way :(

@@roguewavecoffeecoI now calibrate mine when I start to hear the slightest bit of touching of the burrs at the 9th click. To my mind that is the most accurate way as I struggle to gauge it on level of tightness

How’s this compare to Lagom mini? Taste and operation wise? I love commandante
@roguewavecoffeeco2 ай бұрын
We have not test them side by side, but the grind quality should be comparable while the taste it produce can be different due to different burr. From my recollection, the moonshine give more body and the A5 burr give slightly more clarity. Operation wise, we like the autostop and magnetic catch cup, easier to clean, and doens't have to be plug in . Lagom mini is easier to adjust the grind size due to the top adjustment.

Update to my complaints about the new Femobook A4 I purchased directly from Femobook.. From a KZbin post I made here about how unhappy I have been with my new Femobook A4, Ply at Rogue Wave Coffee in Canada jumped in and offered to assist. I wasn't getting anywhere with Femobook themselves, which was a bit of a pisser given I purchased the A4 directly from them. But Ply offered to send me a new A5 to try out and then return, shipping costs born by them, the A4, the A5 or both grinders back to him if the A5 wasn't a big improvement for espresso flavor & texture. The difference between my A4 and the new A5 was night/day. The A5, even though Femobook states its a grinder for pour-over, is providing very good flavor profile & separation of flavors with good texture. So, the A4, which I truly believe had defective burrs, was sent to Ply apart of their return offer. They are roasters also, so I added 1Kg of their medium-light roasted organic Daterra Full Bloom Natural beans: roguewavecoffee.ca/products/bra ... -natural-1 and enjoying the big hazelnut, stone fruit, caramel and creaminess of these beans. Ply also provided a few sample bags of other beans...all at no cost to me. I can't sing the praises of Ply and Rogue Wave Coffee loud enough. If you're thinking of purchasing a Femobook grinder, I can unequivocally say, based upon my experiences, you should NOT purchase directly from Femobook but source the grinder from Rogue Wave Coffee instead.

I am actually not too sure for double brewing with french press. I think if you would like to do French Press iced coffee, you can do a 1:10 or 1:8 brew, for longer like 6 minutes and then pour it over ice might be a good alternative method.

I purchased the A4 variant from Femobook for my travel espresso grinder and I like the overall form factor, etc. But the flavor from the burr set is just shy of terrible. I've owned and extensively used dozens of espresso grinders and have never had a burr set that resulted in such mundane flavor: Dark, medium or light roasts making no difference. I've ground about 2Kg of beans with very little flavor difference. Communicating with Femobook about this issue was...frustrating at best and without resolve.
@roguewavecoffeeco3 ай бұрын
Hey! Unfortunately, we haven't test A4 yet, only A4Z. From what I understand the A4 burr is specialized for espresso. That seems to be frustrating for sure. Thank you for sharing your experience. I wondering if they would be willing to exchange it for an A5 for you. Have you tested the A5?

@@roguewavecoffeeco Femobook wants to charge me another $300 to swap burrs & carrier! This, after I e-mailed them, within a few days of receiving my new A4, feedback on how compressed the flavor is for the A4 burr-set! You can tighten the knurled thumb nut all the way, and see where it land (don't over tight). However, if the nut is lock right now at where it is then there is no issue. As long as the calibration doesn't move while grinder you are okay.

Great video. I also like to use my AeroPress for travel. One question I have is why do you stop pressing when you hear the hiss? I thought the purpose of the AeroPress was to extract as much as you can under pressure.
@emmettpostill76443 ай бұрын
You stop pressing once you hear the hiss because at that point you are pushing through air and not liquid. As a side note the pressure is not doing anything to assist extraction, the purpose of the plunger is to create a vacuum inside to prevent water from leaking during the brew, and to make the drawdown faster than it would be otherwise. You could place the plunger inside right at the very edge, remove it, and let gravity do the work, but it would take much longer.

You shouldnt have to push down on the inner mechanism. You could do that to check if there is any burr lock issue, but in general it is not necessary. You should be able to use it straight away.
