I wish I would’ve seen this video about a week earlier. Went and bought a new rod because the ring came off and I figured it cheaper to just buy a new one. Luckily I have another rod the ring is starting to come off on but it’s still on there good so I’m gonna try this on that rod ring and see how it holds. You may just have saved me a good 200 bucks 💪🏽🙌🏽
@exotericfishing3 ай бұрын
it's not bad to have a new rod stashed just in case 😆 this video shows the harder way of fixing the broken tip but it keeps the rod's original looks. if u have a well-stocked tackle store in ur area, u can bring ur rod over there and ask for another tip guide. u just heat up the old one and pull it out then try the fitment of a new one. costs buck or two. u can use hot glue stick but the most secure way is to use epoxy to glue the new guide back. make sure its well centered with the rest of guides. glad the video helped and if u have any other questions, feel free to ask. cheers 🍻

To provide guidance (centering) to a drill, punch a workpiece. Without the grit, it is extremely common for the drill to wander, meaning it wanders around aimlessly on the material without hitting the exact point of the hole, as is the case with you in your video.
@exotericfishing6 ай бұрын
haha yeah, tell me about it. i tried doing it, but the shaft was harder than the small puncher i had. even drilling through it was harder than i expected. but as u can see in the video, energy and persistence conquer all things. 😉

Why would you do this instead of just replacing the entire tip? It makes it way more work to try to remove just the ring. A whole new tip is like 2 dollars and you can buy the kits anywhere and will be stronger.
@exotericfishing7 ай бұрын
how can it be more work than removing old thread and epoxy and finding the tip with exact same color and size that will match perfectly the entire set of guides on that rod... and lets not mention rethreading and applying epoxy that needs hours and hours to dry. i could have replaced it with one i cut to take the ring off, but will that make it look and be like from the factory? i dont thinks so haha and yeah, its ntg less stronger!
@Eric-zs6rd7 ай бұрын
@@exotericfishing You don't need to remove the old thread. Thread holds guides on, but the thread on the tip is just decorative because it the metal barrel fully encircles the blank. Just heat the barrel and pull it off, put the new tip on with a 5 minute epoxy and you're done.
@LightSpinAngler2 ай бұрын
@@exotericfishingI am trying to do this to an ultra light with a tiny guide tip for the same reason. I need a ring that’s small enough and mine are stainless steel too. What do you mean by theaded? Jw if the thread might be important for my repair.
@exotericfishing2 ай бұрын
@@LightSpinAngler if you are going to replace only the ring inside of the tip guide like i did in the video, then you dont need to worry about threading 🧵. but if you want to replace the whole guide, then u need to remove the old one by heating it up. just be careful not overheating it since you mentioned it's a UL rod, the rod tip is very thin and too much heat can damage the blank.
@LightSpinAngler2 ай бұрын
