the key is to not getting panic attack, inhale a large amt of air. I could only do this after trying to breath calmly.

I'm trying to develop something in between, as I still lack flexibiliy to smoothly flip turn : I have to do a significant effort and exhale too much as a result which in turn impairs my ability to swin underwater. I experimented with a side flip, slower but : done right as the open turn allows to breathe while turning Can be triggered further from the wall than open turn Nullify the risk for water to get to deep in your nose (and I hate those pinching device). It feels smoother more continuous with actual swimming than open turn Like open turn, you replenish your lung easily On the con side : It's not as fast as flip turn, especially with artificial restriction to prevent Lochte's approach. I don't know if it is faster than open turn, though you start the movement earlier. I guess I could say more if people more in shape than I'm without my issue could test trial it.

I was never taught. Just watched my father and he swam with his head above water, so that's how I've always done it. Now at 62 I have neck issues so I want to try it this way. I'm sure it will ease the tension. Thank you so much. 😊

Thanks for your video. Being straight and relax was a game changer for me. That flee or fight feeling triggers anxiety and discomfort. The more relax I am the better is my session.

Great video. Thanks for posting. I don’t think most men can swim with that little of kick. I have to use a 4 beat to keep my body aligned.

Useful reminder! Think of Your body as a spear - keep it in line with Your direction. Only rotating Your shoulder creates splashes. Swim silent with hip (whole body) rotation! 👍

Great video and thank you, I would have loved to see more explanation provided on what you did different to create the bow wave. I'm guessing it's both an arm position and timing change but it's hard to tell.

Do i need to relax my whole body during recovery? Stiffness on my hand and neck during freestyle is the main problem... When i dropped my elbow i can swim 400 meters or farther but when i correct it using correct catch thats the problem, i cant even swim 150 meters because i feel like im stiff from upper body.. any tips?

I think the only part that should be 'stiff' is your core, that would enable your body to be streamlined, the rest should be 'soft'. Look up the power diamond style of the catch, and you will see as they bring the hands out of the water towards the hips the palm turns inward and feels softer by the time it is outside.

The best way for me to tread water is to make my legs as far from each other as possible and make biking motions but with moving my legs up and down to much easier than egg beater or flatter kick or anything else and the head has to be slightly back

I have never thought of teaching to intentionally collapse the body line to teach some one how to bring it back up. I would think that maybe they would have to be able to correct it in the first place though.

Excellent advise. I wish this was around a year ago. Since I had heavy legs and no core I had to buy short fins for buoyancy and used a two-beat gentle kick, enough to be streamlined. That helped. Now I have core strength and can swim like you showed. Still learning!
