Hey Nelson, do you know how possible it would be to extend the number of steps within the volca bass? I really like using the volca to create sequences rather than an external one. Thanks
@nelsoncolereis4058
@nelsoncolereis4058 4 жыл бұрын
I don't think it's possible. You can use the switch to hold down the button to change sequences with one finger. That's the closest thing. Or use external midi of course.

Can you help me? Ii soldered + line to VCC pad and - line to GND pad on the circuit board as a power supply mod. However, this added a whistle sound to the audio signal. Tried different V5 power supplies, different wall outlets, and even cables. Any thoughts on how to get a clean signal when adding a power supply mod?
@nelsoncolereis4058
@nelsoncolereis4058 4 жыл бұрын
Hey, I don't know. Most of the time it's the power supply. Check if all your (solder)connections are ok. Maybe try a diode between +5v and the VCC? Or a small resistor? You can use a bread board to test things out, see what works. Other then that, no idea.

Most of the mods are just patchpoints on the back of the pcb. The vco mute is a switch between the vco output and ground. The memory button is the two contacts of the memory button with a switch in between.
@leverington
@leverington 4 жыл бұрын
What patch point did you tap for the audio in?
@nelsoncolereis4058
@nelsoncolereis4058 4 жыл бұрын
The middle leg of the resonance pot. It feeds back into the filter. The filter behaves a little strange to audio inputs. Kind of like a band pass filter somehow. Good luck!

@@nelsoncolereis4058 perhaps the band pass behaviour is because the middle leg of the resonance pot isn't the right place for feeding in audio? Is there somewhere between the VCO summing and the VCF you could inject external audio instead? Looking to do an audio in mod for Volca Keys
@nelsoncolereis4058
@nelsoncolereis4058 Жыл бұрын
@@dharmaone77 I don't know. It's been I while. I basically poked around and found the audio input I use that way. The filter is actually pretty cool. It is not your typical filter if you use it like this. Has more unexpected results this way.

Super Mods! For the vco mute socket do you have to solder the socket to ground as well?
@nelsoncolereis4058
@nelsoncolereis4058 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks! It's a wire from the vco out to a switch to ground. So flicking the switch mutes the vco.

One thing I forgot to mention is: I had to get rid of the battery compartment to make room for the jacks and the switches. I never use batteries anyway, so that's not a problem for me. But good to keep in mind for anybody that does use batteries.

@@nelsoncolereis4058 I was aware of those solder point but didn't find a use for it...now it seems obvious, very clever idea ! So you have 3 separate output on your volca ? VCO/filter/Main ? Why would you use the VCO mute, does it substract the signal from the main output while still trigering the filter ? I don't get it sorry but, in any case, thank you so much for sharing, lot's of people never share their mods.. thank you so much ! Cheers from france :) Louis

@@LouisSerieusement Hey Louis, VCO mute does what it says, it mutes the VCO signal. That way the vca opens when a note is triggered, letting through either th audio inout or the filter self oscillation when the resonance is cranked up.

Love love love the feedback mute! I'm a little confused about the sync output. How was that connected? I had no idea the MD could be clocked
@nelsoncolereis4058
@nelsoncolereis4058 6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, Monotrons can receive and send clock. Atleast the Classic and the Delay, not sure about the DUO because it has no lfo. There are resistors in the middle of the pcb just above the lfo int pot. Where the blob of glue is. Not sure why they put that there. Take a jack and use aligatorclips from ground to the jack ground and poke around a little there in the resistors. There’s a clean sync signal in there. Same goes for sending a clock in. It’s two resistors to the left if I remember correctly. I’m modding another Delay and my Classic soon so I’ll document it better with photos and make new demos.

Wow, thank you! Really appreciate that! This is a game changer for my mod. I'm basically doing the same, but I'm modding a duo as well and recasing both in the same space.
@nelsoncolereis4058
@nelsoncolereis4058 6 жыл бұрын
Cool, I modded a DUO a while back, turned it into a cv contrable filter with feedback distortion. The pots are easily replaced by cutting the legs and soldering wires to a new B10K pot using the old pot solderpoints on the back. It is a lot better to work with this way, not the tiny knobs so close together.
@nasound42
@nasound42 6 жыл бұрын
Oh damn, I never thought to just cut them. Thank you! Haha I was not looking forward to de-soldering them. Yes, agreed 100%. I'm not a big fan of this style of knob. I get that they wanted a small package, but it's more fun when you can grab and modulate without worrying about knocking out other parameters

@nelsoncolereis4058
@nelsoncolereis4058 7 жыл бұрын
Not sure what you're saying. I don't know of Shock Electronix eurorack. The mods are mostly made by trying out points, connected to the - of the Monotron. Different points trigger different sounds. Like circuit bending. Some points are labeled on the back of the pcb.

Hi nicoiutub, the power supply is really easy. Just get a 3v power supply, get a power supply jack that fits and solder the + to the + and the - tot the - of the battery side. The Montron itself already has an on off switch.

I'd like to add the resonance mod on the vcf and the square wave on the vco. it could be nice to add some switches to route the lfo from pitch to vcf. I'd appreciate your support !
@nelsoncolereis4058
@nelsoncolereis4058 7 жыл бұрын
Sorry can't help you with that. The resonance mod is well documented online. You should be able to find enough info about that and try out stuff yourself. For the LFO routing, the LFO output is accessible on the back side, rout it to a switch then to where ever you want to go.
