Birds look great but unhealthy. Feathers on a stick. Should be more like race horses. Beautiful with condition, flying well, smooth feathers, yet wide heads and shoulders. Select for flying ability and centimers distance from stick
@Peter-xe4so11 күн бұрын
Also, they should be bred such that taking out spots for exhibition is not necessary. Taking out spots should be forbidden. Front heads are indeed beautiful. By selecting broader skull boanes, the feathers on the skull can be more compact
@Peter-xe4so11 күн бұрын
Heads OK, but priorities off. Birds need to be very healthy, strong and elegant. These budgies sit badly on perch. Feathers are awful. I bet they can hardly fly.

You have a good view and your birds are also stylish, as they should be. These birds, even larger ones, will always beat the smaller ones with very good type. I have often discussed this with the Belgian grower Jos Backx. But that was in the 70's - 80's.👍
@BudgerigarАй бұрын
@@johndevries7122 Thank you for your kind words! Everyone has their own liking and disliking. I agree that often bigger birds can be more successful on the show bench but I think time will come when super stylish medium type birds will be winning the shows.
@johndevries7122Ай бұрын
@@Budgerigar Listen, I don't want to step on your toes, but a large, beautiful type of bird will always beat a smaller one. It is very difficult to breed a large bird with good type, I know all about that. I generally don't like the birds today. They only show the head, but never the side view. They are often one of those mega-blasts with feathers, but none of the models are included. Listen, I certainly won't make any friends with these statements, but most of what is on the show is nothing to watch. You have beautiful birds, there are a few good breeders, and you are one of them, but many just mess around and think they can breed too. I always say, keep it small and selective.😉

@Budgerigar how much it cost for 1 pair of birds with that quality in your country?
@BudgerigarАй бұрын
@ There are lot of factors that can effect the price. For example, bloodline, age and sex of the bird, mutation of the bird, if bird is split of something and most importantly what is the breeder’s situation, means if he has bred enough for himself or not. If he hasn’t bred enough for himself then he/she will not let go any bird at any price. Exhibition budgies are not commercial birds so no fix price for it.
@jvramos1947Ай бұрын
@@Budgerigar thanks so much for the info, I asked this as from our Country there's only limited numbers of quality birds and I'm a breeder myself and aiming to get the same quality like your birds but of course the foundation we have is not of the same quality thats why I'm asking maybe in the future we can acquire for the same quality.

What a great dad raising such good quality babies 👏 so do you find a hen who attacks her chicks passes that trait on to her own babies? Presumably you won’t use her again then or would you use her but maybe foster the eggs out before they hatch?
@BudgerigarАй бұрын
Thanks for watching the video! I will use the same hen again with the grey male as they have produced fantastic quality babies but I will try to foster half the eggs so there will be less strain on the male in the next round. The hen will be removed as the babies will be around two weeks old.

Such nice birds! I'm wondering how often you have to change the bedding in a flight like this with this many young birds.
@Budgerigar2 ай бұрын
@@donnadavis8917 thanks you!. There are 3 trays in each flight. I clean two side ones(under the perches ones) weekly and the middle one with food containers one every 2-3 days depending if softfood has been served or not.
@donnadavis89172 ай бұрын
@Budgerigar Thanks for your response. What is the bedding you use? When you change the bedding, do you do only one tray at a time and rotate so you don't change both sides trays at once? I ask because I'm wondering what you do with all the birds that all seem to like hanging out on or near the bottom. Also, that lovely yellow hen that was playing with your fingers is obviously very accustomed to your hands. Do you handle your babies as they grow up to ensure they are tame and calm if you show them? Thank you for sharing. I've had American budgies as pets for most of my life and am just getting into keeping and breeding English budgies and possibly showing them in America.

The lacewing is a sex-linked variety. This hen has opaline variation too which is also sex-linked variety. The best pairing (you're maybe not going to like) is a normal. The chicks that are cocks will be split lacewing and the chicks that are hens will be pure normal hens. The worst genetic pairing is that Recessive Pied cock. Worst because you will lose control over what you produce in your pairings. With quality birds like these, controlled results are everything. Thanks for a thought provoking video and showing us your great birds.
