IMO, 3 things to spend the big money on and DO NOT SKIMP. Everything else, you can cheat. In order of completion, #1 Subfloor including your foamboard, and NO, you do NOT need 4 inches. Don't give up your ceiling height, and let's remember science. HEAT RISES, not fall through the the floor. COLD FALLS to the floor, does NOT RISE into your bus. So I am going with 1 inch 150 formular and it's plenty strong enough to walk on when it's only 1 inch thick. If you're in CO or AK, maybe you need more, but most of us do not. It accomplishes the 2 main things, vapor barrier and breaks the thermal bridge and the added benefit of some R Value. Leave your Subfloor 100% floating. DO NOT ALLOW your wood subfloor to touch the metal sides. Leave 1/8 to 1/4 in gap, then use the spray can Great Stuff spray foam to seal that gap. #2 wall and ceiling insulation. If you want spray foam and feel it's best, spend the money and have it done by a pro and consider the labor portion of it, insurance that it's done right, not going to have to be redone. You get in a situation where you goof it up or get bad product, the mess you'll have to clean up just to start over is worth it. #3, Solar and Electrical. Spend the money. Your life is worth it. SAFETY, NO FIRES, and have enough power to do as you wish. AC will be your biggest power cunsumrer. Remember Roof Fans are great too. You may not need AC near as often as you think with proper ventinaltion. Maybe a generator option when you're running AC like many RV'ers do. You have options, but spend the money on electrical and have it done right. So, Subfloor, Insulation, and Electrical, DO NOT SKIMP. Spend the money or don't even build a bus.

This might be a fix, because it worked for me. Keep in mind though, I say MIGHT be a fix because I am not doing thousands of rivets, I've done like 20. Anyways, I took off the nozzle, and there are two nuts you can move. One is to remove the jaws, and then the other one. I think the other one is like a stopping gauge or something. I loosened the stopping gauge nut some, and then tightened the jaw nut up against it, and that solved the problem.

If you watch very many bus-life channels on KZbin you will see a lot of bus-enthusiast that become very disenchanted with large buses. They are very hard to maneuver, take a lot more skill to drive, And you almost always have to pull or chase with a tagalong vehicle, because of the lack of agility. My bus is the smallest bus available(18k GVWR ) on a truck (not van) chassis. 24.8 ft long from Mesa Arizona, absolutely no rust. Non air-brake class, no special drivers licence, easily insured, Dt444e, not the best engine available, but this one was well maintained . Getting parts and finding a mechanic that could work on it, if needed, is the easiest in the industry. This engine has a B50 rating of 350k miles. Air ride suspension. 3000 IC International. Mine was the easiest to convert to an RV licensing because there are few requirement in my state...NM. because I went through a independent licencing company, NOT THE STATE, MVD. This state thrives on making thing like that as difficult as possible. The most important thing is knowing if a bus is going to be the BEST for you. There are many other options.....travel trailers, Vans, converted vehicles of all kinds from package trucks to ambulances. You don't want to sink thousands of dollars into something only to find out you made a very bad decision. IG #ontheoadagainbus.

Good day to you and really great videos. I believe you have a Cummins 5.9 under the hood, if that is the case, your all maxed out on rpm and power. Running that engine at those levels, you will kill rings and or throw.rods. If you have a cummins 5.9/8.3 engine, its only good for 2400 rpm max. Running that engine that high is also a guarentee to burn valves with extreme EGT's. Get a EGT guage. You need to look at tag on differential or call and get the build specs on your bus, and find out the gear ratio. If you are anything in ratios of 5's (5.13), you have to swap that diff out. 3.73 ratio is perfect. Next you need to goto a Cummins dealer and have the horsepower turned up to 300hp. Will cost $400. You can also jyst do a injector upgrade for $400 also (rv75) .This is if you have a Cummins 5.9 and VP44 injection. If you have a Allision MD-3060 or Allision MT643, 300hp no problem. If you have a Allision AT545, no matter what horsepower you have, that trans is already done or will be wiped out fast. Either way, look at tag on right side/passenger side door. If you have a DT466 engine, those high RPM's will cause extreme heat in the cylienders, create boiling cavitation and wipe the liner 'O' rings. Meaning a rebuild.

When it comes to previously government owned busses (especially in California) it might not meet smog for civilian owned vehicles. I have herd of horror stories if people buying busses at auctions and being told at the last minute, as they are paying for the auction, they have to have the bus towed off the lot and the bus can't be started in the state because it does not meet civilian smog requirements. The lot owner can't let the vehicle be started on the property because California Air Resources Board (CARB) will fine the lot owner. In California now, it suppose to be disclosed prior to beginning of the auction or in the description that the vehicle must be removed from the state upon sale because it can never be modified to meet CARB rules or is within the required engine replacement dates.

Lucky my bus was always owned by First Student. A for profit company that contracts with local school's to be their bus provider. Since it was always owned by a private company, it had to meet California smog regs from day one. Mine is a 2002 7.3 Powerstroke. (See profile pic) My GVRW is factory listed at 14000 lbs. California has a new smog law that requires new regs on any vehicle, gas, diesel, CNG, LPG, with a factory listed GVRW of over 14001 lbs. It has a separate computer to turn on the glow plugs to help with emissions. I got a look at the local school districts 2002 bus (yes they still run one due its wheelchair lift) and it does not have one. Just a solenoid. The school district mechanic confirmed my suspicions. That bus will have to be either scrapped or removed from the state because there are several more items that would need to be replaced to make it pass California smog at the end of its service life.
